Legions Imperialis Land Raider Explorators

Recommended Posts

I don't know how they painted such tiny hazard stripes and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

Each box contains six miniature Land Raiders in the Explorator configuration, which means they have a chunky dozer blade at the front to crash through uneven terrain. Though conceived as an exploration vehicle and lacking the front assault ramp of their Spartan and Proteus Carrier compeers, the Explorator is nonetheless a powerful tank with armour-busting lascannon sponsons and can deploy ahead of the main lines thanks to its advanced augury scanners.

Legions Imperialis again next week.

This is going to be the first time ever that GW has launched a new game system and already revealed the full first year of releases before the starter box has hit the shelves.

Funnily enough, I'm fairly certain this was the case with the LOTR SBG.

As in the most recent incarnation?

A wee bitty tiring; I really wish one of these articles (or monthly Tuesday new rules ones) was about a certain much needed FAQ and errata!

We can dream...

Honestly, this makes me think there's also tiny transfers incoming

I think they show a transfer sheet in a box contents image in one of the early posts about the game. You can't really see much but it looks like a blue transfer sheet of some type. AI came with tiny transfers, so I'm hoping some come for this (SoH for me please!)

Another fav of mine for release - that's another one ticked off! The text is confusing though - they mention the Proteus Carrier but this kit is just the Explorator only? Or am I just misreading? Why not make it a double kit if so - very odd choice?

You can get Tamiya tape at just 1mm wide to mask off tiny hazard stripes.  They are flat panels so shouldn't be too much of a trouble.  Not much of an article though, considering we know all the plastic HH armour is coming to LI I'd have thought these could have been included in the main Land Raider article.

Bit surprised its not a dual kit of 3 Explorators and 3 Carriers. As they name the Carrier version in the article I would expect it to come too but I don't expect two different boxes for Proteus Land Raiders. Maybe those will be a resin upgrade set?

I too was confused by this, but it sounds like they might be combining the utility of the Explorator with the capacity of the Carrier, as the article says "their cavernous holds can carry plenty of troops." We know that Warcom has an interesting grasp on the meaning of words like "soon," but I can't imagine they consider a carrying capacity of 5 (a single base of non-terminators in LI terms, i.e. less than a land raider) to be "plenty."

My crackpot theory is that, since you can take multiple transports for a detachment, they worried the regular carrier wouldn't be distinct enough from the Spartan, so they added the utility of forward deployment and lost the assault ramp to give it a greater individuality as a unit, but kept the regular capacity of a carrier to keep it relevant as a transport.

So you mean combine both the carrier and explorator into a single verhicle without the assault ramp (use the Spartan for that) but with a bigger carrying capacity as the normal explorator capacity wouldn't do much in LI?

I could see that but why even call out the Carrier in the article then?

Is this the first article where the close up studio painted vehicles aren't in Death Guard colours? Odd to see a switch as you'd expect to see consistency as these are the models you usually see on the back of the packaging. They do look better than the chipped DG models as you can actually see the edge detail but now the metal parts blend into the main hull...

Just do Blood Angels or similar GW!! It'll sell your models better!

"Join us again next week for more Heresy Thursday reveals – our scanners tell us there might be more on the horizon for Legions Imperialis."

The end of the article leaves me pessimistic about a iminent release. I don't feel that we get it this sunday preview nor next sunday...

Six reveal weeks in a row make me optimistic for a release soon. Also if those rumours of a Nov 4th preorder are true and next week is that expansion book it would actually finish up pretty nicely.

Though I still would really like some Dracosans/Aurox before the reveals go back to sleep

I'm fairly certain it'll be announced this Sunday.

I'm not aware of any other major releases to come? We've had the marine and nids drop, cities of Sigmar wave 2, mkiii and friends for heresy.

That would also fit with a preview in November too to keep up with what's next.

LI this Sunday then a specialist games the week after is what I reckon it'll be.

No more. Please. Just give me one 30k Thursday for the normal game

I'm so sick and tired of LI. You would think this game is the primary system for 30k. With how much they keep shoving it in our faces.

I'd actually be okay with that if they committed to it. But instead I have a feeling they will hose us with LI and then abandon it only to hose us with yet another conveniently incompatible 30k era game system in a year or two. Probably a 30k Battlefleet Gothic next time.

It feels like they are treated specialist games or 30k or whatever you call it as a dump and drop cycle. They get people to buy in on the big drop and then only provide enough to get them occasionally buy only to bleed them again entirely with a new system drop.

Their way of getting around converters or people just using their existing forces at a guess.

Sole exception seems to be Necromunda with its sheer persistence, quality and attention. Someone high up seems to have an obsession with it because I rarely know any players offline and it doesnt seem as present in terms of battlereps or the like on youtube as other systems.

Remember that specialist games doesn’t get the resources the main studio does when it comes to manufacturing
