This (emphasis mine) runs contrary to the above "just get it from Imperium, it's much cheaper" argument. Veterans are still after a bargain, and as you can see will still jump on a good deal from GW.

That wasn't so much meant as veterans don't want any discounts it was more so meant as GW doesn't think it needs discounts to keep veterans buying stuff. Of course how much that is true with the rising prices is a different matter but I at least think thats what GW is thinking

The whole idea that "existing players" don't have any use for this Combat Patrol is also a pretty sweeping generalisation. I mean sure the opportunity to pick those models up at a better price has been there for the last three years, but not everybody has an interest in the flavour of the month faction while it is in the spotlight. There will be people who've been in the game a decade or more who've been collecting other armies and are only now interested in starting a Necron army.

Maybe once I've broken the backs of my other 40k army projects I will have time to start up some Necrons...

I already have all of these and still considered this box. It could definitely be better/more exciting, but most of this isn't the kind of thing you just want one box of anyway. I don't think I am going to buy it (and if I do it won't be anytime soon), but I might buy it eventually.

I'll be curious how they balance the admech one in the CP minigame, The points cost of that box is barely half of some of the others

I hope it'll cause the hounds to show up a bit more in the discount 2nd hand market, I'd like another set but not enough to justify retail.

I guess that the AdMech box still can be a hit as 3oo4 units are pretty interesting for most army built once you have your core: Serberys, Pteraxi and Manipulus may find their place almost anywhere. 

 

Seen the usual discounts in FLGS (say 15% mini), if you plan to get these 3 units at some moment in time, the box at full 125€ is attractive as it gives you an aditionnal Battleline unit for about 15€ or so in most cases. Not exceptionnal but not to be fully disconsidered neither. Getting cheap cannon fodder is always a nice plus. If the FLGS is doing a discount on the patrol box, too, it is even more interesting. 

 

This box is however not fitting well for a starter set, for sure, whereas the previous box was better in that sense. But if we remember of an older set, with a Skitari unit, a seer and a Dunerider, the combination was OK but not demential neither. I do not remember if the price wasn´t lower anyway?
