Because resin moulds are significantly cheaper to make than plastic ones and that means GW can make their investment back with a lower number of units sold. Makes it ideal for minis like this which have limited appeal and therefore not likely to sell in significant numbers.

You've got to remember that Heresy is already a niche within a niche, and individual legions are even smaller niches within that; the customer pool for minis like this is actually quite small.

It's not even about the cost... Resin kits need substantially less "engineering" to make into a usable kit. Essentially they can be cast in fairly few pieces and don't need to be meticulously sliced into a number of components before a tool is made for injection moulding.

The latter is what takes a long time. Banging out 3D renders is simple.

The new resin used and casting processes for the most recent consuls and Garrius are so far ahead of the old sculpts it’s mind boggling. It’s the closest to plastic it’s ever been.

Someone mentioned this as good stock for a Librarian (or Sorcerer) conversion, but I could also see it as a good base for a Chaplain/Dark Apostle.

I am really digging this new Mk IV. Love the Luna Wolf iconography as well. I know the roadmap says nothing about another armor mark update through spring, but I’m eagerly awaiting the update for Mk IV so I can build an army around some of these characters without the scale being too wonky.

I wonder how many of us are going to end up buying this guy just for that EXCELLENT face! If I were a lottery winner, it would be super tempting to use 10 of these faces on an Alpha Legion squad for ultimate "I SMELL THE FALSE EMPEROR/ ULTIMATE HERESY" unit.

Though I can't help but feel he's missing some Cthonian gang scratchings or some bonding studs somewhere on his armour.

Was thinking something similar but that he was missing a gang haircut in my case.

My problem with this is that forgeworld is not consistant with their releases... People can be mad at GW but one thing i'll give 'em is that they stick to their release schedule (the HH one anyway). The only thing that is missing for the horus heresy roadmap now I think is the command squad/weapons, all the rest has been released.

GW need to reign in FW and make them stick to a schedule because this is all over the place... one week we get preator, the other week not just one but two champion consul ?!?! Now we release another model for a legion that realistically could wait a year before getting anything more.

Like just stick to a schedule FW please ! just finish the sons of horus first, then we release imperial fist or stick to a batch. We are doing preator ? Then we release all preator for all legion, then we go for the next thing. That we so :cuss:in easy...

I was just thinking that. That frown is intense like Karl Urban in judge dredd intense. I must have it. Also starting to think new mark 4 might be around the corner.

Random resin characters and upgrades is part of the schedule for every season for splash releases. Also next is the mystery army then the Command and Weapons in Spring.

Mark 4 new design confirmed

100%. Also this one has a really high collar too. Different from the last two but still uniquely tall so I guess that will be a thing on the final plastic as well some kind of really high back collar. My favorite part of this new design is the lore accurate chest armour the front plate going over a more mark 6-7 style chest to cover the power cables. It was always kinda wierd the last design had them right out in the open despite covered cables being the mark 4's supposed greatest technological advancement. lol

Bottom row titled Resin, Winter entry "New Characters and Upgrades". It this model not exactly that? So matching exactly the published schedule for the system?

Seems like the issue is not so much they aren't sticking to a schedule, but that their schedule isn't what you personally would like it to be.

To be fair, Forge World / Specialist Games have always been more than a bit scatter-brained in what projects they choose to tackle. A huge part of it comes down to them seemingly not having pit bosses in the same vein that the Citadel team does over at the main studio, which can be both a blessing and a curse depending on how you look at it.

I do still feel like they'd benefit from ticking off the missing Praetors (and a few named characters before moving on to legion-specific Consuls), but I won't begrudge them for working on the latter.

The complaints about this are inherently invalid and silly because we are still in the Siege of Cthonia/Age of Darkness release window. Once the Sons and Fists are at 100% they’re done. That’s it. Forever. Whoever is the focus of the next book is obviously getting all their stuff done at once. It’s rumored to be the Shattered Legions. They don’t need to spread anything out, everything is already done, they need to release more and faster.

Feel like the LI delay has made a lot of us think that Heresy is massively behind whereas…the Roadmap so far has been stuck to fairly consistently?

I’ve got my fair shared of quibbles over what has and hasn’t been given priority. Certainly didn’t think that the ‘Characters’ would be the newer Legion specific consuls, cool as they are. But unlike last year, during 2023 things have been delivered to us all on time.

To look at it somewhat objectively, they basically had a year-long roadmap, and they've kept to it for the most part. That's certainly an improvement over the more volatile 1st year of 2E Heresy.

New Character models and upgrades are a solid filler release choice for right now, hopefully we get some more good ones.

Rumour is a World Eaters Preator is done and waiting release. So they haven't forgotten about the missing Preators and I don't think FW even sets the release schedules for things anymore they just design models and GW handles the rules and production.

They should never have been.

Wake me when its time for actual Legions. ;)

Hopefully that 1st Legion Paladin gets announced soon then :)

On a positive note I gotta say the rate that these new consuls are coming out is pretty encouraging. What are up to now 9 this year? Librarian, 2 champions, two tank commanders, Sorcerer, White scars guy whatever the hell they are called, Esoterist, Dark Emissary yeah 9 and if I'm not mistaken a few preators as well. I hope they keep this pace when they start redoing the older specialist units. Whenever that will be. Hopefully soon... Templar Brethren.

There's all sorts of units that I'd love to see redone. Reavers, Templar Brethren, Rampagers, Palatine Blades, Ashen Circle, Dark Furies, etc.

The question now is whether they do full resin squads, or upgrade kits on the plastic. What has been in favor has changed multiple times, so not sure what is now their choice while it's been a few years since the last squad was done.

I personally prefer the full resin squads, as they have a lot more character, but what I think is irrelevant. They've almost certainly decided already, so we'll have to see what their choice is.
