I guess that leaked collection of short stories a month or two ago has to be fake if we haven't heard anything more about it.

Are you talking about the SoT? Because that title now shows up listed in paperback editions

I started reading the series in august after never making it past daemonlsayer when i was younger. I was really excited when i saw Josh Reynolds' name on the front of the fifth omnibus and was super confused by how out of place gotrek and Felix felt in road of skulls, to say nothing about the weird timeline. I couldn't believe it; this is an author I've continuously praised for maintaining continuity and being mindful of other authors work.

A lot of that now makes sense given that he was barred from really referencing anything. But I still just don't like his gotrek and Felix dynamic, with both feeling like they've been stripped down and are kinda really uncharismatic. I went right back to skaven slayer after i was done, and Felix is straight up a cool character you enjoy seeing succeed. He's got a lot of agency, rolls with the bad luck, and never comes off as whiny or cowardly; you understand why gotrek likes him and chose him to be a rememberer.

But ya, rant aside, josh really got done dirty by BL.

A bunch of the Reynolds G&F stories, including the Charnel Congress novella (which brings back Mannfred von Carstein from the dead of Hel Fenn) and Road of Skulls are set in-between stories from Trollslayer, so the duo is still pretty shaky. Other stories happen after Giantslayer, along with the G&F mixed-author anthology and Josh's Serpent Queen (iirc).

So Thanquol, Ulrika, Max and so forth aren't a thing in Road of Skulls yet. The most recent event from Trollslayer would be The Dark Beneath the World, where Felix acquires Karaghul, followed by Charnel Congress. Following Road of Skulls you got Berthold's Beard and then you get back to Trollslayer, and only then do they meet Kat for the first time.

You can see what BL editorial was going for with these non-Slayer novels at first, but it came at the price of halting progression, removing close references, and making things very confusing for the reader.

Ya i kinda internalized the road of skulls as taking place mid troll slayer, as skaven slayer kinda goes right into chaos into dragon. So i wasn't hung up on the lack of references to other characters; it was still just the dynamic between the two. It's similar to how the characters interact in Geheimnisnacht in that they disagree with each other more, but Felix just feels really pouty and reluctant at all points. If it didn't reference his magic sword then it'd be easy to put road of skulls first chronologically, but I assume it was mandated in Reynolds brief.

I knew it! That thing was way too elaborate to be a internet point farm! And they called me mad...

No, we call wecanhaveallthree mad, you're normal around here

In all seriousness, what is BL waiting for? I feel like the sooner they announce this after the release of End and the Death, the more hype that will be behind it before folks have a chance to move on

They’re probably worried to release it after the limited edition fiasco.  A lot of collectors will want this yet again to cap off their SoT collection.

If BL are sensible they have held off releasing it so they could get an extra large print run (say, 5000+ copies) so they can satisfy demand and not anger customers.

Either way I am very excited for this anthology!

I did think that "The Carrion Lord of the Imperium" was a great title, and a very ADB title.

If this is a fake, whoever faked it knows enough about BL authors and their individual styles that they should be given a chance to write for BL.

I'm very, very interested to see the marketing on it. My pet theory is that they're rebranding it to be out of the Siege because I can't imagine

"Remember how we made such a huge deal that the Siege was over?! SURPRISE THERES MORE"

Would end in anything other than mocking for them.

Maybe that's why we haven't seen it

It was only printed to be in the Siege in the one paperback novel lineup page so who knows

I'm ready for everyone to mock BL again, it's been at least a week

*edit, I wonder if they're saving this as the big reveal for the BL show in December, if they do it again

If a Siege anthology is the big reveal then BL really is in trouble!

I think there’s a pretty simple explanation. BL has delayed a lot of titles this year due to issues with scalpers, their warehouse issues, etc. Era of Ruin is one of the delayed books. As a result they’ve probably had proof copies floating around for a while now.

That’s what I was thinking as well. The December preview will have this as the big reveal, which may or may not push back the scouring series announcement “the scouring can’t start cause the siege is still going”

So with the anthology being real, it's safe to say that the Scouring is in planning (ha ha BL planning...), would make sense why some authors haven't released much since their siege entries?

It does make me wonder who is going to get the first book?

I think Wraight would be a really solid choice and would probably be my pick

Seeing ADB return from the shadows would also be great but I would riot if it wasn't for Black Legion 3, plus I feel like (and this is just my imo) he really excels at more focused, character driven stuff over the grand scale which the first book would have to be

I dunno

Whoever and whatever they writte I hope they don't make it a series again. Just let it be a bunch of stories told by multiple authors. BL doesn't know and can't do a proper multi author series right...

It certainly would explain why we have seen so very little ( or nothing actually) from Wraight or Haley in particular, usually prolific authors.

Dawn of Fire 9 - Guy Haley (9781804078297) (translated from German, date May 2025)

The first phase of the Indomitus Crusade is coming to an end. Large parts of the Imperium Sanctus are temporarily back under Imperial control, and yet war is raging on all fronts. The Primarch Roboute Guilliman is still trying to reach and save the Imperium Nihilus through the Great Rift when news of a renewed attack by the enemies of humanity reaches him.

Leontus July 2025

SoT Epilogue - various (9781800262591) (translated from German, date June 2025)

The tragic epilogue to Siege of Terra

After the decisive battle between another son and another father - Horus Lupercal and the Emperor of Mankind - humanity teeters on the brink of the abyss. The scars of the conflict have forever changed the fate of humanity, and their wounds will never truly heal, ushering in an age of decay for the Imperium.

A collection of stories that brings many expanding storylines to their conclusion.

"The first phase of the Indomitus Crusade is coming to an end."

I wonder if they're going to do another series for the latter part of the Crusade. Or leave it open to just tell stories in (please. do this.)

Dawn of Fire 2. The Firing

The next phase is Dark Imperium, and that's already written. I imagine any further development would be through campaigns/White Dwarves first.
