Its funny I checked the Aussie site as a reference point last night so I'd know I'd have to be on time on the nose.  I had a feeling this one would get scalped due to how popular the novel is.  I guess when that last Siege of Terra novel comes out we are in store for website crashes again.

It came and went pretty quick on the site.  At the time I put it down to the Abnett name being attached to it.  Now, I feel it may have been the first sign of scalper resurgence, as every LE/SE since has sold out very quickly (on the Oz site - I can’t speak for other regions) but not crazy fast like the Siege books.  Only the latest (as per my post above) sold out at that speed level.

On the other hand, most of the HB/MMPB editions released in the last few months are still available on the site.

Not sure if it counts as BL but I just watched the Secret Level episode. Really enjoyed it. It really reminded me of the Astartes Series, both in its design choices but also in its economy of storytelling. I was surpirsed when it turned out to have been made by someone else.

Apparently Dan has written in his new LE for IC that Bequin 3 is delayed for reasons “outside of his control”.  Wonder what that’s about?

It probably ties into stuff happening in the larger universe so they want it all synced up. Or they’re asking him to write something ‘more pressing’ like a Scouring novel. He’s says it’s delayed ‘a little longer’ so hopefully that means more like a year or two than a decade.

Valrak says that the Astartes creator is listed in the credits as part of the team that made this.

As the Bequin series has serious lore implications, then I suspect it does indeed tie into something GW want to do with the setting and needing alignment.

Confirmed by Astartes creator himself, that he indeed worked on it.

There must be a better way to communicate stuff like this than in £100 limited edition products.

I dont think its really a matter of a resurgence as its just the scalpers are very much aware of the demand for various products as they dont just target books. They are like opportunistic hyenas looking to bully Lions from a kill using botting technology and a lack of security infrastructure or international legislation/enforcement to punish criminals.  I mean just in general if someone is in the USA and say cyber bullies someone in Canada to kill themselves or whatever, what are you going to do about it?

My position on the matter is that scalping especially this form is theft and assault because they are intentionally preventing legitimate customers from making a purchase. The botting technology is essentially like parking a car infront of the doors to a store and then buying all the products then reselling them in the parking lot.

I have a feeling we will see a repeat of The End and the Death vol 3 fiasco and GW will do the same token response and then do nothing because its just not worth their effort or money to build a proper system to stop the scalping.  If anything they might even be financially incentivized to have an incident because it attracts traffic and people begin to wonder what all the hubbub of Warhammer 40k is and why people want it so much.  The whole drama attracts free marketing from a novelty product that they know is going to sell out.

I think somebody at GW has finally tried to reign on him a bit. Note how the Perpetuals plot in the HH ended pretty much in nothing (like Erda being killed just after one book), and I don't think that was Abnett's intent unless it was a long con to set up Pandemonium. The stuff in his Inquisition books has always been a bit out of sync with the rest of the setting, IMO (hence "Abnettverse"), but Pariah went really overboard, messing with main sacred cows like

Spoiler

the army of cloned naked feral BA with wings fighting daemons in the border of the Eye of Terror

I also see a trend with the main GW and Specialist studios each doing their own narratives that contradict the already messy BL continuity. I'm sure part of it has been each GW division doing their own thing without caring too much about the others, but at some point it becomes untenable and somebody needs to step in to make them agree in the main points.

Yeah like a website. It could even be called after something like a gathering place, or a "community"? Strange how didn't do it yet. But I guess the LEs and paperbacks will have to do for now, to announce new stuff...

Or maybe even set up a separate section for this? This could then be called Preview and updated quarterly? Or perhaps you could organize events where you can meet the authors to ask background questions or where they can even present new works? Just a few more random ideas...

Wild stuff! But maybe someday. GW is a pretty small company after all. Budgeting and all that

If only GW/BL didn’t seemingly have a problem with their authors interacting with fans online.  It’s so weird that they’d cut off some of their best PR tools all in the sake of needing total control.  Loosen up!  What an odd company (who admittedly are a massive financial success so what do I know).
