But i started playing BT way back when we were only a paint scheme and a single special character, The Emperor's Champion, who was in the 3rd edition Space Marine Codex. The first i heard that BT didnt have librarians was when they released Codex Armageddon. (Tho I freely admit that there may have been lore prohibition of librarians in a white dwarf or something that I was entirely unaware of prior to the big 3rd war for Armageddon campaign) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382142-da-rules-disappointment-and-future-supplements/page/2/#findComment-6022522 Share on other sites
Sword Brother Adelard
No, there was nothing about it at all until that codex came out. That codex, and the Index Astartes article that came with it were the first steps on the road to where we are today. Brother Carpenter
Yes I fondly remember codex armageddon Sadly I had just painted my first dev squad and whirwhind, who were at the time banned from use as I recall. But it was a good time to be clad in black. Sword Brother Adelard
Whirlwinds weren't banned until 4th. But famously one of the Crusade orders of battle on the inside cover has a Whirlwind. I too had just purchased a devastator squad, so not being allowed to use those chaps was quite the irritance. I am sure that we werent allowed to field whirlwinds in 3rd edition. Tokugawa
On 1/20/2024 at 5:45 PM, Karhedron said: GW certainly seems determined to avoid codex creep in 10th edition. All the codices so far have been either slight-nerfs or sidegrades. Just read leaked Tau rules. Another typical example of "keep similar overall rules power level to index, and nuke the most powerful unit in index". 9th codex power creep is toxic. And it hurt the sales of earlier codexs, which always include loyalist marine(cash cow). So I guess GW went another way. Tokugawa
Orks and Custodes get codex released at same day. The evaluation to Orks codex is very positive, and Custodes very negative. Both are "small release"(we will also be in this category) which have 1 new model (Orks received a special version Warboss last month, which also a "skin") to existed unit. Sir Clausel
For now im happy with the index and sm dex. When our dex is revealed most of us will probably be a little scared. Maybe we get good and fluffy rules. Maybe we get something like DA or Custodes :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382142-da-rules-disappointment-and-future-supplements/page/2/#findComment-6034107 Share on other sites
Medjugorje
right at the moment RC have a good ruleset but Marines in general struggle. RC just has an 39 percent winrate. Its just the other Marine detachments which gave us a good winrate (ironstorm is by 67 percent) (information from STATCHECK redmapa 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382142-da-rules-disappointment-and-future-supplements/page/2/#findComment-6034223 Share on other sites
Blade of Sigismund
The detachments give plenty of room to play with, I'm just hoping that the new rules clean up some of the model interactions so that it makes sense to play in line with the fluff. SWORD BROTHER RYAN
IMO, I'm just happy BT are getting attention outside of the standard SM codex. After so many years of being lumped in with the standard SM codex, it's good to be recognized the way we were after the Armagedon supplement. Yeah, we can wish for things, but this has been desire for so long that I'll accept whatever we get. It has been worse.
