Looking great so far ^^

I'm really eager to see the completed Asmodai. Red robes look badass.

As for the liquid masking, this thing looks really hard to use :O

Not remotely related, but my kids have a wooden car derby event this week

I present to you my Golden Daemon 2025 submission

if i don't win the whole system is rigged

Tried convincing my kid that it needed grots and orky bits but he said no. I'm still going to write "boomdakka snazzwagon" on the bottom. I've never done a commission before, I'm thinking this should easily be like $200, yeah?

Edited by Boc

I was going to say it bore a resemblance to the Ork submarine that appeared in (I think) one of the Third War for Armageddon battle reports, but it would appear my memory is playing tricks son me ... but yes, add a Grot to it

(also a reminder to keep it 40K )

It's a snazzwagon!

Okay... i guess I'll relent and post a progress pic of Asmodai...

Tonight I'll finish up the sword, do a bit more work on the base (local guys have given me a few pointers to make it less boring), then add the washes to clean off tomorrow

At the oil wash stage on Asmodai, the Ancient, and the inceptors. Going to halve the inceptors to finish half with Asmodai and the other half with the chaplain, whose crozius and bolter I still need to get some work in on.

A progress pic of the Ancient, whose robe still isn't great, but, compared to this, is pristine lol

Spoiler

The ancient's coming along nicely.

Unfortunately, you can see where the repair to his robes has been done (it doesn't help that the golden/brass belt ornament is literally pointing to it ), but I assume this will get a blob of "strategic snow" to cover up the thicker paint near the hem

Aaaaand he's done!

Basing the BG Ancient and working on smoke plumes on the inceptors, and I think assembling Inner Circle Companions next!

Edit: Just finished up the Bladeguard Ancient so figured I'd just add him on here. 5x inceptors will be done tomorrow, the last 3 and the chaplain hopefully by Monday

Been a bit of a slow week, but finally got the motivation tonight to get out the airbrush and go brrrrr

Right now, working on Belial (helmets > bare heads)

and a whole bunch of scouts. With their bare heads

Stupid, stupid bare heads. THIS IS A WAR ZONE, WEAR SOME PROTECTIVE GEAR. Also have I mentioned I don't like painting faces?

Completely agree with you on the bare heads - given the rest of the model is in thick armour, it just feels "odd". (that absolutely has nothing to do with the fact I can't paint human eyes...)

Been a slow couple of weeks, but a lot of stuff at least passing the halfway mark.

Took a while to get back around to finishing up the inceptors, but they're now all done and going to the cabinet!

One day, I'll figure out where the 9th inceptor went. And on that day, I'll never, ever paint him.

Chugging along on the two librarians, Captain, and last 5 of the scouts. Figured I'd do a couple progress pics.

I got a couple fluorescent paints to try out for the first time to give the swords a bit of a differentiating look to them. Because apparently DA use a lot of swords.

Tried the green out on the captain:

Once I get his shoulder decal on tomorrow, he'll be ready for finishing touches and weathering.

Here's where I went a bit more off the rails.

20240521_000632.thumb.jpg.6d2963f77e6cd2df5d0ca3cbfe01e1d7.jpg

My gravis librarian has purple, my phobos has yellow. Going to try to make the eyes and the cabling on both look a bit more glowy. So instead of my normal black/super dark washes on those parts, I'll be using a bright white from MiG. That'll make the white seep into the crevasses really well and, I think, make them pop quite a bit.

Really happy how most of these turned out for the most part. Disclaimer: I'll clean up the bases tomorrow with black to hide over paint, I'm just never patient enough once I get to the finish to do it until the next day.

I tried edge highlighting for the first time in like a decade instead of dry brushing. No sir, don't like it. I'm going to keep trying to get better at it, but even esthetically I just don't like it as much.

Went for a bit of frost effect to show off the psychic ability that is probably happening

Scouts are good enough for government work, calling them done.

Now... the less good

20240525_002337.thumb.jpg.c049a523078e41ce1b4b1e2574caf8b4.jpg20240525_002347.thumb.jpg.0a4f52b89db2698b91f121c142ee2b7f.jpg

First off, the sword suuuuuuucks to do. I broke it off on accident pretty early, and it's broken off 4 more times since. I've pinned it, still breaking. He won't see the table for a good while, but I anticipate the sword not even lasting through his first game.

really don't like how his face turned out. I think I tried to get too cutesy with florescent paint on his eyes then snow and it turned into a mess. I may go back and touch him up later, but I'm ready to paint something different for now.

Nice work.

For the sword that keeps on breaking ... does he have to have a sword? I was just wondering if it were possible to replace it with ... say ... a staff made from brass rod (I appreciate drilling through the hand is going to be a pain ...)

That's not a bad idea, datasheet only says force weapon. I'll see if anyone local has a spare rod

I'm drilled halfway through the hand already so what's a little bit more and a little bit wider
