Welcome to part three of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you play an Infernus Squad?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • MSU or full squads? Are you running multiples?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What Deployment options are you using?
  • What Leader are you attaching?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

I love them. They did solid work for me in my league. They are a decently potent overwatch threat. They almost always did something in the game. I used just a 5-man squad.

You can use them in the Firestorm detachment to give them some extra mobility and punch.

I like running two squads of 10 in drop pods. With the firestorm detachment you're averaging 35 hits at str 6 that ignore cover. You can also make one do devastating wounds (averaging 5).

The following turn, they are also placed in position to do the same via overwatch. These guys are devastating against anything not wearing power armor.

Thank you Jolemi! I've been theorising about this unit v both intercessors and scouts.

The points change actually hurt them a bit as they were cheaper than intercessors previously.

Up to 30 strength 5 auto hits is no joke VS GEQ - MEQ and although intercessors have better AP and range (plus a chain sword on the sargent and the grenade launcher).

I think advancing Infernus is a better fit for BA for a couple of reasons.

They can play the Baal flamestorm role on a flank or at lower points, the centre.

The roll on battle shock with Dante could be huge as well.

Can screen a DC dreadnaught as good as any unit in the game as well as peel off to capture an objective or provide fire support to a unit about to charge.

Think their threat value is quite low until they are in the midfield where they can do some real damage quickly, a bit like aggressors. Could put them in an impulsor but I'd prefer plasma in my firing decks.

Area denial is also strong but again points change did affect this and scouts might be too cheaper to ignore.

They probably benefit from gladius too early with devastator doctrine often the first round choice (12" not helpful either) but will always do a respectable charge in SOS detachment despite a lack of a chainsword, especially now it's +2 Strength on the charge.

In my mind they screen my dread and advance, fire overwatch into some banshees next turn, then move up to an objective defended by guardians that get roasted and charged being wiped out to a elf.

If they shoot twice at the right targets, screen some armour and deny area/over watch intimidation they get a great return for outlay.

Also the $10 thingy. I couldn't say no to some for cheap although I think the models would convert to black watch with 3rd party big guns very easily.
