Prot's Latest Dark Angels

Just a few minutes here... this past week I finished the Mace equipped Deathwing:

they look really great. I know they are fairly strong right now but I miss the days where a whole army of just these guys was competitive. I know that competitive isn't everything and I do see several squads of them in lists, which is cool. But I miss the old days of all bikes and all terminators and so on. lol

I'll be honest the codex was looking so bad I ended up just playing the Ravenwing detachment. BUT a great piece of it was the plasma speeder. It was a cool tech piece for Ravenwing. Now it's dead. They outright killed it when the codex came out, so Ravenwing became just about the bikers.

 

But I ended up using a very well rounded list with the Ravenwing detachment. It wasn't 'great' but it did use a lot of what you're talking about. Deathwing, speeders, bikers, greenwing... it was okay. Not great, but it did give you some play. I think that changed when Nexus came out and we lost the ability to do actions while advancing. (That was the big saving grace of the detachment.)

 

But since the tweak to the Inner Circle / Deathwing detachment, etc  they actually do damage now! Before they'd just sit like a lump and slowly die. I really hated it. They did go up a lot, but they are far more fun to play now. 

 

The detachment changes makes it far more playable, but I'm afraid GW still has a major issue on their hands; they refuse to limit units, especially within detachments. There are a LOT of examples of units that just don't do much unless they're in a specific detachment.  So I am still seeing that only the Gladius is registering a respectable win rate for Dark Angels.

What have I been doing all this time? 

 

I'm glad you asked... this is the last Lion I will paint. He took longer than I wanted, but I wanted him to be better than my last one. Really a fantastic sculpt. Still my favourite and the novel, Son of the Forest is just right up there for listening to while painting.

Awesome work! Thanks for posting, Prot, and thank you for your thoughts on the new DA Codex. I have only played one game with them...I think I need to play a few more, but so far, I am only luke-warm on 10th ed...I love the models, though!
