Round 2 Summary Cont.

 


Asterius Parries.

 


Even in his near-berserk state, the Blackshield parries with an elegant flick of his chainblade. But the beast will not be denied. With a snort of frustrated fury, the vast Grubgob raises his claw over his head and brings it down with all his monstrous strength.

Asterius: The claw descends with unstoppable force, smashing down your right hand side even as you try to dodge to your left, ripping effortlessly through your plain black pauldron, smashing the chainsword from your hand, and finally catching against your right tasset and driving you down into the shallow water. Pinned beneath the colossal weight of a mega-armoured Warboss, you cannot escape. Grubgob grins and with an air of finality, the massive pistons that open and close his claw release a long, slow hiss of steam as the bladed fingers come together beneath the surface of the water. A sudden, agonizing spear of pain lances through your thigh, and the liquid around you almost instantly turns a deep crimson. The darkness begins to take you once more.

Omoc

 

The horde washed over Gerhardt and Asterius as they charged the warboss, the two warriors almost lost to sight in the shadow of the towering ork. Bringing his weapon to bear he opened fire on the lesser advarsaries as ordered seeking to give the rest room to fight but already they seemed outmatched as their preysense runes flickered in his vision indicating damage.

 

Full auto into horde 2

BS roll: 29 vs 46 (+20 full auto, +10 range, + ??? horde)

 -any bonus from the horde makes that 6 hits, otherwise 5

 -cannot fail to wound an ork with any roll

 

Magnitude damage = 6, +1 (explosive), +1 (armour bonus) +3 (devastator) = 11 total

Alda

 

Having satisfied herself that the Picter was working as intended Alda was about to begin another pass over the valley below her with the Magnoculars. While there were many Uruks still in the vicinity of the wreck, and they had encountered a few scattered xenos on their approach, if a large group of them had already departed before the Kill-Team’s arrival then they needed to know.

 

However the screech of a critical medical alert from the teams feed interrupted her. From the readout she could surmise that if it had been anybody but one of the einherjar they would be hearing a valkyrie’s welcome now. Would a valkyrie come a second time, she wondered, to raise the slain once more.

This does not account for any issues that may arise due to vertical distance to ground changes...  I’d assume from general scene setting that the shortest route is diving of the outcrop, rather than say take a more gentle slope the long way round that Alda used to get to the overview point.

Moridyn

 

Moridyn sees the red-black flickering rune that is Asterius. He grimaces, but trusts his Deathwatch comrades to keep covering the right flank. If he turns to aid, the greenskin hordes at his front will wash over them. Ignoring the stings of the small ork's primitive weapons, he levels both his guns and unleashes his own fire.

Asterius' battered prone body is bathed in a radiant light which caused Grubgob to recoil.

 

 

 

"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay shall I mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear."

 

 

 

The radiant light faded away to reveal that Asterius had risen up and was stood defiantly.

“I’z alredy finished wiv’ dat. Deal wiv’ it.”

 

Then he looks at Gerhardt.

 

“Dis wun's still mine, though.”

 

The lesser greenskins swarm forward to assail the Assault Marine with jagged knives and slabsided cleavers.

Fire-Born: Zidemi applies Proven(2) to his Servo-Arm; thereby removing it from his bolter.

( Free; passive Solo Mode does not require Cohesion or changing from Squad Mode);

 

“Our right flank needs support!” Zidemi shouted over the vox, rather impulsively. No doubt the others knew, but he could see that both the squad leader and the apothecary were about to be inundated by the alien hordes. Neither of them would be inclined to fall back now. 
 

His Omnissian-forged mind was demanding he hold his position and reload his weapon, but he was not spending the next 11.3 seconds re-arming as his new Brothers are falling around him. The Promethean Cult dictated the right path forward.

 

Oblivious to the enemy fusillade that passed over him, Zidemi apologised to his missile launcher’s machine spirit before releasing it from his grip, and charged through the shallows towards Amaras’ position.

 

Ready/Drop: Zidemi drops his Armourbane

(Free to drop items without stowing);

Ready Action: Zidemi draws his bolter;

(Half Free; Quick Draw, bolter is basic weapon);

Run: Zidemi moves 30 m E, which will allow him to be placed directly S or W of Amaras (preferably W). Enemies targeting Zidemi get -20 to hit with ranged and +20 to hit with melee.

I was going to limit her to a simplified strafing run, but in case you decide you want to do a 'medevac' run instead, we will say she can act as you choose from the full range of Vehicle Actions. Azadth:

 

Seeing the Blackshield go down, Azadth's face hardened. A reckless assault with the best of intentions, yet the Space Marine had paid the price he wagered. The Black Templar had lurched to the Brother's aid, but it was rapidly becoming untenable. He would have to risk himself in order to try and buy some time - firing the missile launcher would compromise his position, but what else was left to do?

 

He uncapped the weapon's barrel bungs, made it ready, spotting the big heat signature of the huge Ork moving into the crosshairs of the rapid aiming sight.

 

Just before he loosed the round, he sent a vox message to the Sergeant-Hetman.

He offered a small, apologetic smile to the voxlink.

Gerhardt

 

At Azadth’s warning Gerhardt ducked down to grab hold of the fallen Asterius, and fired off a quick burst from his jump pack, pulling the fallen Blackshield out of reach of the towering ork. An instant later, a krak missile streaked out of the sky and blossomed in a retina-searing fireball as its armour-piercing tip made contact with Grubgob. His helm’s ancient auto-senses filtered out the worst of visual backwash, revealing the repulsive xenos was still standing. Gerhardt drew a krak grenade of his own with his free hand and leaned forward, tensing his muscles, preparing to close with the enemy leader once again.

 

+A fine shot, Brother Azadth! All others: Bolter Assault on Brother Váfri’s signal! Imperator Vult!+

 

 

Full Action: Disengage (move 10m 5m South away from Grubgob) & pull Asterius to safety

The Mantis Warrior's rocket tears down across the intervening terrain and Grubgob looks up, momentarily dumbfounded by the sudden appearance of this noisy, fire-spewing dart. In this instant of distraction, Gerhardt is able to pull back, though only in readiness to attack again.

 

The rocket strikes home and a huge fireball bursts around the Ork's head. Blasted backwards a few paces, Warpzagga staggers. When the smoke clears, his piggish features are burned black, and he bleeds from several nasty shrapnel cuts. His fancy, feather-bedecked hat is nowhere to be seen. Grubgob shakes his head, as though trying to clear a ringing from his pointed ears, then looks around the river valley in furious anger.

 

“Filfy ‘oomie cowards!” he bellows. “Waz dat you, ya lying, double-dealin’ lil’ runt? I'z comin’ fa you nekst!”

 


Grubgob spends a FP to restore d10 Wounds, Roll: 7, now on 36 suffered.

Arriving just in time to see the Kill Team leader drag the fallen einherjar away from the xenos it quickly became clear to Alda that she would need to clear a way through the Uruks to reach them.

The hail of shrapnel, lead shot and nails that the runts' crude guns spewed out was like an ice storm. Váfri snarled in annoyance as it pelted him, scoring his newly painted armour. Individually the attacks were no threat, but in such numbers...

Warning icons began to blink in his helm display. He couldn't ignore these foul little creatures after all.

 

+Grenades. Hit them again, brothers. Keep firing!+

 

Regretfully taking his focus from the Orks, he swung Gylthir down to aim at their puling minions. "Fine," he spat, "you wanted my attention you little wretches? Here it is."

On Váfri’s signal, Gerhardt primed and hurled his krak grenade, which detonated ineffectually against the freeboota's mega-armour. A few moments later he charged in behind it with a wordless roar of inchoate fury, leaving a torrent of promethium and black exhaust in his wake. The Blackshield, whatever his faults, would be avenged.

I believe the Blast should likely also hit and deal 1 magnitude damage (explosive) to Boyz Horde #2 around Grubgob.

 

Movement Action: Charge Grubgob (I'm unsure if I get to roll for a charge attack/get a bonus to attack with this in the following turn, or if this counts purely as a no-penalty maneuver in combat)

Continuing to move and fire in short, precise bursts Omoc unclipped a grenade and tossed it into the closing greenskins, never taking his eyes or aim from the horde around the warboss.

 

Bolter assault - Keep moving along the ridge, toss a frag grenade at group 3 (max range 30m)

Roll: 61 = hit (thanks to the horde bonus)

Blast 4 - Damage rolls: 12, 7, 17, 13

 (plus one extra from being explosive, plus one more from the armour background bonus)

Zidemi:

 

Vafri ordered another barrage of grenades, and with good timing. Zidemi fetched a Krak Grenade from his belt; beside him Amaras was already arming his own grenade to hurl against the mob of charging Orks.
 

Meanwhile across the shallows, Zidemi could see that Gerhardt was about to reengage the wounded Grubgob. He would have to time his throw perfectly.

 

Zidemi primed his explosive and raised it high, chanting “Omnissiah, bless this thy hand grenade…”


Bolter Assault 

Charge Move: Zidemi moves up between the boosters; ~5m E then ~10m N.

Standard Attack: Zidemi throws a Krak Grenade at Grubgob.

No sooner had Gerhardt closed the distance with the monstrous ork again than the fiend had lashed out at him with its enormous power klaw, but the Black Templar had counted upon such aggression and was ready and willing to exploit it.

As Gerhardt's energized sword deflects the massive claw, it slices neatly up between two of the deadly blade ‘fingers’ and on through the hydraulics with a hiss of steam. Grubgob roars angrily and lashes out with the now powerless weapon, a glancing blow that bounces off Gerhardt's pauldron but still rocks his whole body. This monster is still dangerous.

Despite mounting losses the orks morale would likely hold as long as the warboss still stood. It would be easy enough to strike at the beast while it was distracted but Omoc saw no reason to put such insult upon the Templar who had proven decisive enough to validate his standing as squad lead.

 

Pulling his heavy bolter close the devastator planted his feet and focussed on those greenskins that sought to circle around and strike Gerhardt from behind. If they would not honour the duel then compliance would be forced upon them.

Moridyn

 

Damned greenskins. The hordes were peventing Moridyn from assisting his downed fellows- if he turned to put shots into the warlord the overwhelming numbers would swamp the Space Wolf and himself. Still, target priorities had changed and now all his fire would be directed to the large orks, leaving the gretchin to the explosives that had hammered them.

Roll = 49

Result - Hit, 5 DoS. 4 extra hits (FAB) + 2 extra hits (Scatter) = 7 hits total

Damage - Minimum damage 11 (1d10 + 10) at Pen 4, 7 MAG damage
