Deus_Ex_Machina
At the beginning of last week the bases from Mini Art Studio arrived (Junk & Trash). So the Necrons from the 9th 40K starter boxes (Command & Recruit) could be finally built. The building process itself was a chore. Anyway painting the bots in rusty colours was swift and a very fun experience: Necrons_Rust_Bots Necrons_Rust_Bots album hosted in ImgBB ibb.co Another ten Necron Warriors remain to be built, three scorpion guys and some sort of modern support bot. Right now I am busy painting the industrial terrain components which came with those boxes. Painting Recipe: Necron Body 1. Black Basecoat 2. Flat Brown (Vallejo/drybrush) 3. Umber Wash (Vallejo/wash) 4. Rust/Model Air (Vallejo/drybrush) 5. Oily Steel (Vallejo/drybrush) Junk/Trash on bases 1. see above 2. add Silver (Vallejo/drybrush) after Step 5. Glowing Lights 1. I am a big fan of uniformity when it comes to painting armies. Also the officers don´t fancy being easily identified by enemy snipers. So blending in with the grunts is a more sensible approach. Deus_Ex_Machina
This was by the way inspiration for the paintjob: Judge Dredd ABC Warrior (1995) Though I changed his eye lens colour as green would contrast more with the rust. And the base deco and the upcoming terrain tiles were inspired by the junkyard planet from Transformers Edited March 29, 2024 by Deus_Ex_Machina Mithrilforge, Rhavien and Wolf Lord Duregar 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382609-necron-rust-buckets/#findComment-6031070 Share on other sites

I will be using the rusty robots in two ways: 1. Old Crons (2nd 40K) or 2. Custom Machine Culture (Rogue Trader or HH 2.0 Great Crusade Era) One of the painted bots is from Reaper miniatures. More are planned to add to the collection. So they will have nothing to do with the Newcron´s school of thought. terminator ultra 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382609-necron-rust-buckets/#findComment-6031110 Share on other sites

Deus_Ex_Machina
More terrain pieces have been added. Short fuel pipes, corner fuel pipe and thermo exchanger control console: https://ibb.co/album/8zXnmH I am not feeling like painting the remaining three pipes today. Lets take instead a crack of assembling the last ten necron warriors. Oof! Deus_Ex_Machina
Update: During last week work on the rust buckets continued. Here is the result: https://ibb.co/album/vxPRsh Glowing lights, cables and weathering still needs to be done. And now comes the clou: These five metal dudes are the last minis of the faction currently in my possession to paint. This means I have finished an army! Who says you will never finish your pile of shame in your life time? Guess they were wrong. However a couple of days ago new bots were ordered from Reaper. So no more skull faces. As I took a survey along my hobby "garbage" (raw material for terrain crafting) an idea struck me for a large robot which would fit on a 100mm base. That´s right, the centre piece of the rust bots will be cobbled together (what have you expected from a rust bot anyway?!) from raw ingredients. It will be a special surprise for this thread. The only downside is that the order which includes the 100mm base will probably take a month as the retailer can´t get his act together. That will be all. Deus_Ex_Machina
My order has arrived yesterday. It included the following materials for my Rust Bot project: https://ibb.co/album/FqmVW8 Four Blackstar bots to form a team of five bots. "Rustica", a fembot. A large round base for my future gargantuan, scratch-built bot, junkyard basing material and an Android Priestess. I am still on the fence of how to use the latter model. My plan right now is to use the N18 Escher models and combine them with all the unused Necron arms which hold the double-barrelled weapons. This would lead to the creation of Cyborgs which would become a tiny subfaction within the Rust Bots as most 40K factions have. Though I need to check first, if the Necron arms would align well with the Escher models. As a consequence the Android Priestess would then become a requirement in list building to have access to the cyber zombies. The end result would look a bit like the ranged Assembly unit (Electrocutioner) from the Age of Wonders: Planetfall video game as these guys/gals also have a punk hairstyle combined with cybernetics. So in essence ghoulish cyber zombies.
