Necron Rust Buckets

Recommended Posts

At the beginning of last week the bases from Mini Art Studio arrived (Junk & Trash). So the Necrons from the 9th 40K starter boxes (Command & Recruit) could be finally built. The building process itself was a chore. Anyway painting the bots in rusty colours was swift and a very fun experience:

This was by the way inspiration for the paintjob:

Judge Dredd ABC Warrior (1995)

Though I changed his eye lens colour as green would contrast more with the rust.

And the base deco and the upcoming terrain tiles were inspired by the junkyard planet from Transformers

Also the officers don´t fancy being easily identified by enemy snipers

the thing is, necron nobles wouldn't really care if the enemy can pick them out, because they are so arrogant.

I will be using the rusty robots in two ways:

1. Old Crons (2nd 40K)

or

2. Custom Machine Culture (Rogue Trader or HH 2.0 Great Crusade Era)

One of the painted bots is from Reaper miniatures. More are planned to add to the collection. So they will have nothing to do with the Newcron´s school of thought.

You've definitely got the rust effect down

Since I have discovered weathering techniques in 2022 by chance it is very difficult to resist applying them to any new models of mine. It doesn´t matter what the effect is: Dusty, grimy or rusty just look better imo than pristine factory quality straight from the conveyor belt.

Update:

During last week work on the rust buckets continued. Here is the result:

https://ibb.co/album/vxPRsh

Glowing lights, cables and weathering still needs to be done. And now comes the clou: These five metal dudes are the last minis of the faction currently in my possession to paint. This means I have finished an army! Who says you will never finish your pile of shame in your life time? Guess they were wrong.

However a couple of days ago new bots were ordered from Reaper. So no more skull faces. As I took a survey along my hobby "garbage" (raw material for terrain crafting) an idea struck me for a large robot which would fit on a 100mm base. That´s right, the centre piece of the rust bots will be cobbled together (what have you expected from a rust bot anyway?!) from raw ingredients. It will be a special surprise for this thread. The only downside is that the order which includes the 100mm base will probably take a month as the retailer can´t get his act together.

That will be all.
