TiguriusX
Yeah he should get an upgrade too. He's the named Chaplain equivalent, isn't he? I've not been the model on the tabletop in a long time. he has play in champions of russ with wolf Guard or blood Claw hordes full reroll v monsters/vehicles with sustain and/or lethal does some work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/382668-wolf-codex-expectations-what-are-yours/page/5/#findComment-6066191 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Jbickb
Ulric is a pretty new sculpt (in gw terms), I think rules are a bigger reason he doesn't hit the table often. Galron
If we are looking at late 2025 as the rumors say, we may be looking at a different design philosophy entirely at that point. Its already been written at least in rough draft, GW has a minimum 3 year development process. Current rumor has the primarch coming back. I make some corrections and adjustments for my earlier prediction. Primarch back from his going a-Viking Wolf Guard as the main body guard style unit- I still think they will get all their weapon options nerfed to just generic Frost weapons similar to something like Dark Angel knights get. 75/25 that they keep their heavy weapon options since those have always been a Wolf Guard thing. Be awesome to go back to the second edition version :P. Wolfen gone Fenrisian wolfs gone Wolf Cav stupid but new models, keep the heirloom weapons. All Box Naughts gone. Bjorn gets moved into a Redemptor with one set of weapons. Logan, Arjac, Canis, Njal get new models with Canis and Njal becoming primaris. Logan and Arjac get new scale terminator armor. Logan loses his stupid Santa sled thing or it remains the same(50/50) I doubt he will get a new one. Wolfguard become standard LTs and get no further bonuses outside of that, keep the terminator option. Hounds remain The tougher question Wolf Scouts, blood claws and sky claws go as all three are easily replaced by primaris and scout equivalents. Grey Hunters and Long Fangs are an odd one, I think they will stay in the same way Tactical marines and devastators still exist. But on the other hand this codex is going to be coming out not too long before 11th and I think Tactical marines and devs(and VG Vets) will be going away in the next version of the Space Marine codex as the last vestiges of the first born marines outside of terminators. Since Space Marines historically is one of the first, if not the first, codex released for an edition(they are by far the best selling faction in the entire line) and 11th will be an update edition as opposed to an edition redux so the codices should be backwards compatible, it would make sense that first born unit like the above five named, would get the axe. OR in bucking the trend, they get the axe as first born but come back as Primaris versions of themselves using the analogue kits with an extra sprue stuck in like they do with the Hounds. More likely if this would happen however they may keep the units and make them Primaris and simply sell a sprue seperate for just space wolves with various wolfy parts, heads, shoulders and so forth so you can wolfify the standard versions and make them Assault Intercessor "Blood Claws", Scout "Wolf Scouts" and so on. I still think Long Fangs and with them Dev Squads are not long for this world in either form. Grey hunters I can see being intercessors with special weapon options that normal intercessors dont get included in the sprue kit. The upgrade sprue kit makes the most economic sense to me. Instead of taking up store space with multiple boxes for one more marine army for units not too different than normal marine equivalents, just make one box with a bunch of upgrade sprues in it usable for all five or six units and call it good. You could even nix the Hounds box and throw their parts in their too and ditch another box on the shelf. I am really surprised they actually even made a box kit for them in the first place to be honest, just seems weird for such a niche unit. Shoulder pads, some heads, some tail talismans, backpacks, close combat weapons with runes on them, boom done. I think Vanguard Vets are going to get the Sternguard treatment next edition which is why I didnt include them in this. Since BA got their Sanguinary priest, I think SW will get a Rune Priest, and likely a new model. That gives Space Wolves 15 or so unique Data Slates on par with Blood Angels. Though with the last two I can see it remain unchanged since Logan famously is able to run in terminator armour, and the health can be hand-waved by the wolves and any upgrades logan himself may or may not have received. Northern Walker
I think we'll see a great culling of the firstborn units, how far they go depends on what new kits they bring out. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Grey Hunter/Blood Claw dual primaris kit and then absolutely all the firstborn given the kaibosh. I'll be sad to see some of the kits go, but others that are particularly "wolfy", I won't shed too many tears for. Other than as a source of bitz mind you.
