NTaW
NECRON UNIT OF THE WEEK SERIES Welcome to the Necron Unit of the Week series for 10th edition! Each week will see a different unit from the Codex, Imperial Armour, and Legends datasheets featured for discussion. The goal here is to discover and chronicle tactics for the featured unit so that new players and veterans alike can use this database to inform their strategies with the wider knowledge of the forum. The game of Warhammer 40,000 is ever changing though, and as the rules evolve throughout the edition everyone should feel free to return to older threads with the release of new FAQs/errata, changes in points values, information gathered from games played, and of course the Codex being released. These threads are also great places for newcomers to the Necrons to post their questions about tactics related to the featured units. Please note that the purpose of this series is not to lament what the current meta deems “ineffective”, or that another unit “does it better”. Those units will get their own threads. This week’s unit is: Flayed Ones What types of unit are you going after with your Flayed Ones? Do you take units of 5 or 10, and are you Infiltrating them? Are there any useful character auras to consider? Has the Annihilation Legion detachment been useful? Series Index Tyriks 1 Back to top
Bonzi
I ran a full unit of 10 in an Annihilation Detachment vs a Green Tide Ork list. They got the charge on a blob of 20 Boyz but mostly bounced due to the Boyz 5++ rerolling ones with a 5+++ FnP save. Ultimately they scored me 5 points and killed 6 or 7 Boyz before the remaining Boyz and characters punched back and killed the whole squad. Annihilation Detachment is an absolute dogger whose main rules are barely useful. It does come with some excellent strats that are really helpful with Necrons melee units, especially the -1 to hit. I think Flayed Ones are best used in MSU squads as objective and action units. Infiltration and stealth are a solid foundation for that roll. I like their special rules vs units below half strength...but the truth is that any unit below half strength is probably going to die vs the Flayed Ones even without the buff. They are one of the few anti-horde melee units we have...but whip coil Wraiths probably outshine them with their better mobility and durability. Also, an army with Tesla probably shouldn't be trying to kill blobs in melee anyways. Edited May 1 by Bonzi NTaW 1 Back to top
