I do apologize for not having a character idea yet. I was waiting for the Googledocs link, and then there was a minor emergency yesterday. Everything's ok, I just kinda had to drop everything, and I've been picking things back up today. I'm leaning towards a Tome of Decay character, though the other three Tomes all have at least one archetype I'm drawn too as well.

There's no rush, so don't worry about that, we have plenty of time to settle everything.

With regard to the Tomes, I would rather you stick to the Archetypes found in Core as much possible, and we can work towards your Patronage for Nurgle from there. I'm not dead against dipping into the Tomes for the odd piece of gear, but just for logistics and ease of reference, Blackest Heart will generally be Vanilla with Sprinkles as opposed to Raspberry Ripple.

Just as planned....

As it's come up...

I'm not too bothered about most stuff from the Tomes, but I was hoping that maybe at some point (probably once our INF has gone up a bit) I might be able to upgrade Hagga's Claymore into his Legacy Weapon?

The rules for them are relatively simple, and it just feels a lot more appropriate for someone like Hagga than the alternative, which is to try to get a Daemon Weapon when rolling Gifts?

As I say, that's probably quite a way off anyway, but I'll take this opportunity to throw it out there for future GM consideration!

After having read the Legacy Weapon Rules, this will obviously be a case of elevating the weapon. As such, I think we'll need to see more RP, bloodshed, and play time with the nominated artefact before we can unleash its full potential on devotees of the Corpse King...

Don't see a problem.

@Mazer Rackham if legacy weapons are back on the table (as a longer term development), I'd definitely be interested in doing something with the chainsword. Especially considering he just sawed a daemon prince nearly in half. Still toying with the idea of steering Ukalegon into the tender embrace of Slaanesh to give us some inter-party conflict alignment diversity instead of another khornate nutjob, but we'll see if I can be bothered to stick with that

Ah, no worries. That makes things easier as far choosing an archetype. I'm not normally drawn to caster-types, but that Writhing World Sorcer King was whispering to me from the warp, hehe.

I think I'm going to roll up a Psyker, if there's no complaints. It goes against my usual playstyle, but the Writhing World Sorcerer King was whispering to me from the warp. So barring that, I'll just work my way towards my own version of it.

Now surely, that would be an opportunity for a daemon-possessed item?

I don't think that Crux'as really wants a tongue-whip, so much as a tongue that is as deadly as a weapon when he speaks.

Tongue-whip seems more of a Slaanesh thing anyway.

@Mazer Rackham I have a compromise I'd like to put forward in regard to my Lesser Minion of Chaos, representing a swarm of plague flies. I have chosen to not give it a weapon or armor, and instead would like to give it a Stummer and an Auspex/Scanner.

The compromise is rather than them being pieces of gear, I'd like to fluff them as abilities of the swarm; the stummer would be fluffed as the susurrations of the swarm's wings and bodies rubbing against each other, but it would still follow the same usage rules (20 minutes continuous usage, 1 hour recharge). The bigger part pf the compromise would be the auspex: I want to ask if you'd let me downgrade it to poor craftsmanship (reducing range to 20m/20cm through materials) in exchange for a +20 (or even just +10) bonus to the Tech-Use test for "invisible" markers. This would be fluffed as the swarm's capabilities not being as strong as an actual auspex, as well as being narrower in field, but the sheer number of flies makes it easier to sense the unseen. If it helps my case, I have given the minion the Heightened Senses (Smell) talent. If not, no worries, I'll put the plague fly swarm on hold for now.

Oh, totally. I wasn't thinking so much as a whip or anything obviously physically distorted like that. More that his tongue is possessed by a (relatively weak) Daemon that uses its otherworldly perception to help him say the right thing, or to translate what he wants to say into other languages, etc, etc? And of course, if he lost control of it, it has plots of its own and so might make him say weird random stuff or stuff that gets him into trouble... Properly Tzeentchian!

Actually, that's a fun idea, if no-one wants it I might save it for a future project...

After having a look at it, the Poor Quality Auspex only reduces the scanning potential through solid objects, but if you want to trade off the range for a bonus, I'll allow a maximum of +10 to any Awareness Test. The rest is fine.

Any use?

I was thinking more along the lines of a 'Double-tongue' myself, requiring a willpower test or nothing but the truth comes out.

Delphynie An'Draki'Ina: 'Crux'As, darling, do you think this outfit makes me look big?'

^ This man knows his business.

And it is smooth.

@Viking Slade Our opportunity to put you into the Party will come when the other Players assault an asteroid fortress held by local pirates. Since all the Players started out imprisoned, I don't see why that trend shouldn't continue. I'd like you to consider some options for your Character's current predicament as a 'hostage' of this particular gang. Were you an outcast of another group and got unlucky? Is this gang a rival to your own group? Are you a spy for them and were discovered, or are you simply living on the fringes like many others, and were captured in a raid?

Any way this goes, your story should result in you being incarcerated in the Oubliettes, the small holes in the core of the Asteroid base, with little light, company or hope. Even your abilities and powers are dimmed here, due to the combined depth of rock and presence of unknown metallurgy.

Consider your Character's state of mind, and begin drafting an introductory post to your pestilent psyker. Draw on your Motivations and aspirations (immediate or otherwise). Feel free to drop your ideas in here going forward, but please make no posts in the IC, until directed.

The auspex already provides a bonus to Awareness tests (+20). I was specifically referring to this part of its entry, "...[the user] may make a Tech-Use test to use it to spot things not normally possible to human senses such as invisible gases, nearby signs of life, non-visible radiation, or other things as specified."

But I can work with that.

Yeah, apologies I missed that due to focusing elsewhere. Maybe it would be best just to take a regular Auspex? That way you lose nothing? To be honest, I'm not sure how a swarm would help with Tech Use (unless it was like a weird bio-tech swarm of microconstructed nanobots using magnesium residue and acidic ampoules) - and besides, there's lots of techies in the Party to help you though doors.
