Ukalegon

The Lamenter rocketed into the fray, hot on the heels of his erstwhile comrade, his chainblade whirring in dreadful silence. Stray bits of metal and tiny rock chips from the miasmatic debris cloud choking the inner space of the cavern plinked off of his helm and armour, but he paid them no heed. Not at all unaccustomed to void combat or weightlessness, Ukalegon generally revelled in the flight afforded to him by dint of being an assault trooper, and he was utterly in his element.

Ukalegon crashed into the mass of humans like the fist of an angry god, crushing the bones and pulping the flesh of many on initial impact, and gutting more with the first stroke of his chainsword.

Krokodil 4-1:

As Ulkalegon charges and commits to his bloodletting, one of the squads on the tier above, leans over the rails, shooting, and tags Rakash with lasfire.

Another squad vaults the rails and begins to push off, firing as they go. It is clear they are exceptionally used to this environment.

GM: Players "Turn". Note that I'm playing fast and loose here, with rolls as I need them. I want the impromptu combat to feel chaotic and frantic. Don't worry lads, it gets bloodier from here.

Cyrandras

The snap-hiss rain of las bolts drummed across his chest plate and he felt a sharp hissing sound of his own escaping his lips as at least one found a weak spot with burning stab to his chest.

Rakash swore. Apparently, he needed to have a serious word with the armorers on the Wolf of Fenris after this.

Roaring inside his helmet, the Sorcerer raised his bolt gun and returned fire.

Hagga:

The Lamenter smashed into the miners beside him and Hagga let out a growl of sudden battle joy at the thought of fighting beside someone he might actually be able to trust. That hadn't happened since…

He stepped up his attack, his sword describing great flaming arcs through the dark bay, ripping oxygen from void suits and lives from bodies. Globules of thick, bright red were beginning to fill the void around the Astartes, perfect spheres of lifeblood swirling outwards from them like some strange crimson snowstorm.

All our opponents are Hordes, which we can't Dodge/Parry, so as far as I can see there's no reason not to use All Out Attack for some extra DoS?

All Out Attack vs Horde:
WS52 +30(AOA) +10(Horde) +5(Compact) = 97, Roll: 37, 7DoS

OOC: Will these dudes Break, or do we need to kill them all? I'm guessing if they are indeed GS Cult, they might not pay any attention to their losses...

As Hagga lays about him, the enemy take no heed of their own deaths - they fight with a conviction even a few of the Imperium are lacking - or perhaps it is some mania which seizes them. Whichever it is, they do not give way.

Krokodil 4-2:

Tarh sees the first of the 'guides' running towards the comms centre.

There are six of them, and although it is hard to tell one miner from another - the sheen of purple dye marks them as occupants of the tooling room. They are armed, with revolvers, stub pistols and whatever else the Warp chose to deliver, and each is carrying an axe rake, freshly honed to a gleaming smile blade.

You have about a minute.

Ukalegon

Ukalegon tore into the mass of purple daubed humans with great hewing strikes from his chainsword. He grinned ferociously to himself as he felt the teeth and chain drive of his brutal weapon snag on bone and armour before tearing free, releasing sheets of blood and gore which dispersed in a red curtain of madly gyrating bits of viscera lost to the low-gravity environment. The drops of freed vitae pitter-pattered against his armour like softly falling rain as he plied his trade, and soon he was slicked with it.

Blood! More blood! More…

The Smiler

"I'm afraid we will have to refuse, Druid. I sincerely doubt that you have harmed our Astartes companions, as they are...rather volatile and good at the murder-make, as Lord Redwolf says. Besides, I sense the taint of something wrong about you, and not the wrongness that I know and exalt. Goodbye."

With that said, the Smiler hit the holo-lith controls and looked to the rest.

"Looks like our time is short lads. Can we knock out their coms before they get here?"

Ukalegon:

The paltry offerings of resistance of your foemen is unworthy. The slaughter cleaves through them, yet satisfaction eludes. Their annihilation will have to suffice, for now.

GM: OOC There's no point in them even attacking you normally.

Demi-Horde:

Standard Attack Frag Grenades.

Dam: 2D10 (Body) = 10 (TB/Arm absorb IIRC)

The bomb goes up in a flash and flare, tearing apart your remaining targets, and momentarily putting you off balance. A pathetic attack, but the true intent is force, not vexing your flesh.

GM: Make a Difficult (-10) Evasion Test or be blasted 1D10m in a random direction (Before you correct with Jump Pack, grab something etc)

Crux'as had knocked out the hololith controls causing the Druid to vanish, although it would be a temporary respite.

+That feed is hard-linked into the controls and they are noosperically shielded. See the big trunk cables+ Kraggan point to several with his axe.

+Yes it's going to be a long process of applied tech and violence to get through into their tech-Lair.+

+We have hit this Rock whilst it is going through a Civil War or an Insurrection of it's own. Normal and Purple were originally from the same side. From seeing the odd nature of this bunker made me think that the Pirates had found some tech and added it to their base, but now I don't think so. All the parts are scavenged and cobbled together from ship parts.+

Kraggan pointed out to different things.

+See that monitor back comes from a Soylens Veridian dispenser, this hololith lens is from the external security picter!+

+Did they go mad, resort to cannibalism or have they been subject to a psychic invasion by a Xenos contagion?+

Xerxes:

Directing power from the bunkers capacitors into the primary lines should disrupt all connected systems, but only as far as safety junctions. Sufficient power will jump insufficient protection but there can be no certainty as to the extent of the damage. Resultant fires will likely render this position untenable.

Krokodil 4-2:

There are several junctions from whence the power cables can be overloaded, but Xerxes speaks true. There is significant risk of fire, and you are essentially in a room with only one exit.

Kraggen's understanding of the technology is true, but the patina on the installed transmitter gear shows this was not installed by the rabble currently accosting you. Perhaps the command centre, replete with it's datacentres will provide more evidence.

GM: You may make an Easy (+20) Awareness Test.

Tarh

The pounding of boots echoed before their owners even came into view, the direction was indicative that these came from the tool shop they had passed earlier. A suspicion all but confirmed when Tarh spotted them. With long practised actions he aimed and pulled the trigger on the long-las, the ducked back into the cover beside the door.

“If we close the door we will be trapped here,” Tarh called to the others as he moved to take cover a little further into the room, “Better to use it as a choke point against them.”

Having reached a reasonable spot of to one sight but with a clear view of the entrance Tarh turned back, bracing the long-las and aiming for the first hostile to appear in the doorframe.

Krokodil 4-1:

The rag-tag groups of armoured miners keep coming, with another crew from above tumbling over the precipice and falling down as rain onto your already beleaguered shoulders. They shoot wildly, and it becomes clear they are clearing a path through the debris to get to you. There are now, two full-squads heading pell-mell in a controlled dive, and they will be on you in a minute or so. Thier wicked lasfire scours away the remnants of even their brethren - and the autocannon blasts a handul of them apart.

It becomes immediately apparent that the nature of the battle has changed. More direction and fury enters the play of the foe, cutting down the chaff of the unmarked mining clade. They have identified the threat, and move towards you with a malice of purpose, any semblance of elf-defence abandoned.

GM: For simplicity's sake, all Hordes on the second tier deck are destroyed in a hail of burning lasbolts which only partially reach you thnks to the debris. You should narrate this as and when you post. The only Hordes now in play are:

  • 14 A (descending, +10 Hit, 20 Mag) Distance 150m,
  • 14 B (descending, +10 Hit, 20 Mag) Distance 120m,
  • 14 C (static, +10 Hit, 20 Mag) Distance 200m.

The heavy stubber is in action, but cannot get you from this angle. It will duel with the remaining Corsair.

Mag numbers take into account attrition from the autocannon, the supression fire from the Corsairs, and other environmental circumstances. The enemy will be in close combat/charge range in about 2-3 Rounds depending on your movement profile. None of the Horde carries a heavy weapon, none are marked as Squad Leaders (that you can tell).

The real fight begins now.

Ukalegon

The ex-Lamenter flicked the near-freezing blood and viscera from his chainsword and scowled up at the descending horde of mortals, their lasguns mowing down friend and foe alike in their desire to close with Hagga's demi-squad. Dismembered limbs and detritus hung about him like they were considering taking up a permanent residence in his non-existent gravity well, performing a danse macabre as they ricochetted of his armour and each other in the sudden stillness that followed the sudden, extreme display of violence. He caught Hagga looking his way and shrugged in response, and prepared to launch himself again.

If these maniacs so eagerly sought death, he would gladly oblige them.

Hagga:

Lasfire fell suddenly among them like glowing rain, burning away the bloody droplets, and Hagga looked up to see dozens more of the renegades dropping with ponderous slowness from the third level down towards them. Yet the torrent of energy was deflected by the floating debris, by the Astartes’ superior armour, and in a handful of cases by the bodies of the last few of the miners’ comrades.

Those above didn't seem to care about these ‘friendly fire’ losses at all. An ignoble tactic, and unusual from human troops. More alike to the xenos kindreds that uncaringly hurled their drones into battle in an effort to overwhelm their enemies.

Hagga snarled up at them, angry at men using such dishonourable methods and angry at being cheated of kills that were rightfully his. He raised his boltgun.

Never mind, I'll take your bloody heads instead.

Psychically impelled objects, a barrage of plasteel fule containers flies upwards, unnaturally careening towards the decending foes, splitting one's help apart and revealing the enemies' face for the first time. A grotesque parody of a human visage, it is ridged and lined with bony crests, and the eyes are a pupil-less pus yellow, glowing dimly with pure hatred.

This is erased, of course as vacuum tears his face off, the water vapour and moisture on his ridged skin evaporating instantly, even as his sharp, pointed teeth bite through his purplish, lizardlike tongue.

Another one of his fraternity eats a box too, although this time the fuel explodes and sets him and a colleage on fire for a few brief seconds, before they float away, charred and lifeless.

GSC Is revealed! Don't be shocked, you knew ;)

Xerxes:

There seemed little reason to risk damaging valuable equipment in pursuit of dubious gains. Still local interlocks would be easily replaced and the loss of local camera feeds would blind the cult to the groups movements, at least within the vicinity of the comms building.

The power feed for the smashed hololithic generator should be of sufficient strength. "This measure will blind the enemy and ourselves equally", pointing to one of the switches on the hololiths controls, "but only cameras on the local grid are at risk, once we move beyond our movements will be tracked once more."

Tracked by whatever tore apart the assault team in the other airlock.

Tech use test: 41 = pass

Xerxes:

You manage to disrupt local comms, causing a feedback loop which in turn spoof a synchronisation cascade. The vox-hubs in the comms centre prove it - stations across the facilty report static, their own orders repeated.

Until the command centre can get it under control, you have bought some time, and disrupted comms - electronically at least.

Tarh...just killed a man...put a gun against his head...pulled the trigger and he's dead...

Ukalegon

Ukalegon’s eyes narrowed as his newly acquired auto-senses picked out and latched onto the hideous forms of biologically tainted human hybrids as they were exposed by Rakash’s telekinetic onslaught.

Xenos?!

He was unsure of the breed, but it was undeniable now. No doubt these disgusting wretches had invaded the asteroid well before Iorek’s forces and either had been battling the pirates all along or had taken the Red Corsair's assault as their cue to begin their own.

He looked at Hagga and Rakash as they readied their bolters and jetted up and back to put some distance between himself and where it looked like the tide of filth would crash down upon the gantry near them. Lacking a boltgun of his own, he would bide his time and strike when the opportunity presented itself. There was no sense in another forlorn charge into the teeth of the enemy if the circumstances didn't merit it.

Full action: Move/Fly(?) upwards to put himself in charge/counter-attack position since the GSC hordes are more or less committed to where they're going, and to possibly gain a modicum of cover. Unsure if I need to make any rolls, but I'll include an Operate test for good measure.

Operate (Aeronautica): Ag51

D100: 50; 1 DoS

Edited by Necronaut

GM OOC: Yes, @Necronaut an Operate Test is appropriate due to the evironmental circumstances.

ROUND ONE CONT...

Horde 14C:

Losing the nimble Ukalegon, the brood go for what they can see, hugging the gantry floor to provide cover.

Spoiler

Half Action: Go prone is free, but I rule a half move to take cover properly. Head, Arms exposed. Other locations +AP 6 (they're lying down on the gantry, poking over).

Half Action SAB. Horde make one attacks per 10 Mag = 2

Target Hagga:

D100: 008 HIT, 3 DoS, 2 Hits

1: Left Leg, Dam: 18 AP 0

2: RIght Leg, Dam: 24 AP 0

Target Rakash:

D100: 023 HIT, 1 Hit.

1: Body, Dam: 23 AP 0

GM:  Just for clarity, this damage is before Armour and TB reduction. I leave it to you as Players to calc your wounds.

Krokodil 4-2:

The miners keep coming, ignoring their friend's demise. At this rate, they will be on you in moments. A quick peek of the picters reveals no reinforcements have moved into position, likely thanks to Xerxes efforts.

Hagga:

Hagga swore under his breath. He'd seen the face of the enemy. Hideous, corrupted, inhuman. Something stirred in his memories, something Sgt Kutha had described after returning from his service with the fabled Deathwatch. Something about an infiltrator species, one that had supposedly brought the high and mighty Ultramarines to their knees. Could these things be the same?

Then he grinned, laughed to himself under his helm. This was even better! He had not been forced to act against loyal and innocent citizens of the Imperium. Instead, he would be destroying filthy, sneaking xenos, a grave threat to the security of Mankind's realm.

Another volley of lasfire lanced down, several individual shots finding the weaker parts of his armour. He let out a roar of pain, but more of sheer rage at the enemy who dared to strike at them. His response was immediate, ducking into cover and firing back at the xeno-lovers atop the gantry. He would show them why the sacred boltgun was a weapon to be feared.

Hordes cannot be Dodged.

Hagga's TB + Legs AV =16, so Hit 1 does 2 Wounds, Hit 2 does 8 Wounds, Hagga now on 10/20 Wounds remaining.

:sigh: that’s what I was worried about, 3d10+3 is nasty…
Hagga will spend an InfP to restore 1d5(4)+1 Wounds, now on 15/20.

Actions: Half Move (up to 5m) to take cover behind whichever crates are nearest.
Standard Shot back at Horde C
BS41 +10(Standard Shot) +10(Horde) -10(Prone) = 51, Roll: 50! Hit (on 50=05 Head?)
+1 Hit due to X
Hordes cannot Dodge
Bolter Dam 1d10+9 Pen4 Tearing
Hit 1: (2,7) +9 = 16 at Pen4
Hit 2: (8,4) +9 = 17 at Pen4

Not sure whether that works in the usual way with regard to hitting specific Locations on Hordes? Hopefully, even if they get the extra AP from the gantry, Dam should be enough to go through anyway?

@Xin Ceithan Although Hagga has shot back at Horde C, I'd still recommend targeting Horde B and trying to knock a few Mag off there too. I don't know about you, but I don't want to face another 20 Mag volley! :ermm:

Edited by Lysimachus

GM OOC: Yes, generally locations on Hordes don't matter, since it's Mag Dam, but if there is enough cover to hide a Horde, they can take it. I'm playing them as intelligent, so why they wouldn't is beyond me, so Location hits do matter - but obviously it's only real protection from human-grade weapons, but even so - it'll stop a box...!

Horde 14 C 2 Mag Dam 18/20

Hagga's shot literally bursts a couple of heads, scattering grey-red gruel in ruddy globlets.
