Welcome to part four of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Index, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Index: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Index: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you play a Brutalis Dreadnought?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Are you taking multiples?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What deployment options are you using?
  • What wargear options are you choosing?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

I love my brutalis and rarely leave home without him.  He's really good in firestorm being able to advance and shoot with +1S if targets within 12".  Always forget his MW rule though.  With AOC he can be quite hard to bring down without the right tools.

The mortal wounds on the charge rule is great this edition. You don't have to fight what you charge and as long as you can consolidate into another unit; it's a mini fights twice. You don't get the SOS bonus however.

Distraction Carnifex or 3rd turn counter charge works fine and can handle almost everything  on the charge, especially in SOS.

Looks like there's going to be a DC version as well. Will see if we keep frenzy which I quite like.

Will miss the power talons if so but happy to get a better chassis.

Fwiw, I faced knights yesterday and he walked through 2 armigers like they were tissue.

i rapid ingressed him at the bottom of turn 2, charged into the first one turn 3, advanced around cover and out of range of thermal spears turn 4, and charged again turn 5. He took one objective turn 3 (that my JAI held afterwards), and stole an objective turn 5 (preventing my opponent from scoring it).

he was overzealous with his 2 big knights and I was able to drop them both in turn 2 (much to his surprise), though he did manage to destroy both my land raiders and a squad of terminators

So basically he walked up the flank and made a mess of things.

I've been considering getting a Brutalis Dread for my army, but I'm not sure how well it would vibe with the detachment I want to use.

Anyone got any experience with how well the Brutalis performs outside of the BA specific detachment?
