Kastor Krieg
++ No spoilers for Frater, please! ++ I can take the infinite elevators. I can take the clunky movement. I can take the console "spray and pray" lack of actual aiming (because of how the "over the shoulder aim" narrows your field of view, so you mostly just hipfire in the fray). I can even take the childishly petty squaddies and their paper-thin motivations (the dialogue is really grating at times). But when one of the Space Marines casually spouts out (can't give context not to spoil) "I was a boy on Calth, when the Word Bearers attacked" , I've just spit out my tea. That basic grunt Primaris is ten thousand years old or what's going on here? Kastor Krieg
Not to mention the consistent Captain: "The walls are falling! I need to hit three places at once!" Titus: "I need two squads!" Captain: "I can spare six more men, three per objective." (and they are mixed armour types, too!) Captain: "Perhaps you were right! The enemy has commandeered the main objective, took the VIP hostage and has the McGuffin!" Titus: "I need at least a full squad!" Captain: "I can spare three men."What the hell, Captain Acheron. That basic grunt Primaris is ten thousand years old or what's going on here? Yes. The first generation of Primaris was held in stasis, as a sort of “in case of emergency break glass” type of thing, a failsafe envisioned by Guilliman. Cawl went around “recruiting” at the end of the HH. Girlyman got poked by Fulgrim and went into stasis himself, and the Primaris stayed in stasis for 10k years. There are several stories of fist gen Primaris having memories from the HH ThaneOfTas 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383928-space-marine-2-goofs/#findComment-6063165 Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
Yeah, but those were "first batch" Primaris, a very limited number. By the time Guilliman was going around and reinforcing Chapters with Primaris he had a hundred thousand or more cooked up fresh by Cawl and indoctrinated with their target Chapter's culture. By that time, those first batch Marines already had dozens, sometimes hundreds of years of experience in the 40th Millenium. One of those guys being just a random line Brother and marvelling at Titus' 200 year studs doesn't make sense at all. OpossumStrong
That basic grunt Primaris is ten thousand years old or what's going on here? Yeah, but those were "first batch" Primaris, a very limited number. Yeah, it was showed really nice from Decimus Felix perspective in The Great Work, it was also mentioned in DoF series as far as I remember. I don't think there is a number, but it was by the tens of thousands, Cawl Ark contained 24k, each ship in the fleet around 5k, lots of them were hidden on mars as well. Also it was mentioned that the amount of them is greater then the current existing space marines. lansalt
IIRC the original primaris were recruited after the Heresy in the Cawl novel, and their actual training didn't start until even later (M33?) Given that the HH lasted around 9 years, that character had to be a very young kid when Calth destruction happened for him to be later eligible for SM recruitment. grailkeeper
As someone who has yet to play the game one goof is letting the cutscenes appear on youtube. I've seen ones with [Character] Saves the day! as the title. Great. I didnt even know that character was going to be in the game. Thanks for spoiling it for me before its even out on PC. OpossumStrong
Ugh, retcons to retcons? Who could've known. I'm not sure you can call it a retcon, there were no information with the announcement of primaris, bits of info here and there untill Dark Imperium, The Great Work and DoF series. The most interesting and extensive information comes from Decimus pov, the training, the life before cawl got his hands on him, and the affects on his mind/memory/life views because of all this. ‘I calculate there to be twenty-four thousand Space Marines here. Are there more?’ said Guilliman eventually. ‘These are not all?’ ‘All? All!’ Cawl laughed uproariously, three voices emerging from his voxmitter, layered over one another. ‘This is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, my dear Roboute.’ ... ‘The ships I brought with me contain five thousand warriors each, all currently asleep,’ Cawl went on. ‘Upon Mars many times these numbers still slumber, and in other places. I was careful to cache them away, you see. Some envy me so much they want me dead, and all my works burned! Can you believe that?’ He affected a wounded air. ‘These here are merely my demonstration models, enough to make a sufficient impact, I hope, on you, and my esteemed Lords of Terra. Enough to begin your war, but I assure you I also have enough that you might finish it.’ Guilliman looked upon the archmagos again. ‘How many are there?’ he asked. With great relish, Belisarius Cawl told him. In that moment, the history of the galaxy changed forever. There's literally dozens of Marines just standing around on the Battle Barge! Yeah unfortunately they had to do this, because the PvE content allows only 3 players per mission, but I found it a bit dumb as well, they could play it out somehow to justify the 3 man squad after you land. Ahzek451
Thought this was a pretty funny goof from the design team, either someone didn't know or didn't care, SPOILER WARNING : Took a picture in-game, toward the end of the campaign there is a thousand sons rhino. The hatches, front plate and top, all modeled after a 3rd party bits kit that came out a few years ago. Not official GW product. That's me holding one of them . Glad GW endorses 3rd party now. Marshal Rohr
It’s not a retcon or a goof, the Word Bearers and Honsou attack Ultramar and Calth in an Uriel Ventris novel. It’s a reference to that.
