Have to say, after playing a lot of assault, the best melee weapon is either a fencing or balanced chainsword. Lack of Iframes hurt this class badly. You are punished with chip dmg and crowd control (stun/ interuppts etc) when trying to heavy/ charge attack. You can spec for a jump pack dodge, but dodge is a janky system at the moment. Its less mental load as well to just spec for jump pack hammer of wrath smashes instead via skills.

Yeah, assault is probably the weakest class right now. Vanguard is more mobile, takes less ranged damage, and can parry better. Bulwark is way more durable, and has the main benefit of the power sword just being insane. everyone else outranges it and still get's OK melee, outside the heavy.

Assault might thrive once it gets to level 23, with the jump pack recharge on ground pound kills, but until then it just seems like a slog.

Played through campaign solo - bit of a slog where game doesn't tell you how to deal with the gargoyles and whatnot (hint: grenade launcher will be lying around somewhere).

Been playing Operations for a few days (lvl 6 Tac and Van) and just melta-gunning it up, as is the current style : )

I'd be down to game with any Frater - PM me if you're interested - I tend to game from ~8:00-10:00pm EDT

Big new patch out today with a wide range of changes, but most notably there have been major efforts to reign in the Thousand Sons in Ops. Seeing things like the maximum number of Tzaangors with shields and Cultist Snipers dropping from 10 to 4/3 respectively really puts in perspective how bad things could get.

I've only played two rounds post-patch (both as Assault) and they couldn't have been more different. The first made Substantial almost feel like Average, while the second was just about worst game experience I've had so far with a team that failed to silence the first two sentries and paid accordingly XD

Dropping Rubric and flamer maximums and some of the flamer damage as well is pretty welcome to hopefully make the Nid/Chaos ops more similar in difficulty instead of Chaos ones seeming actually just more difficult. Helbrute and sorceror are fine - just a bit tired of being triple-flamed from full to 5% in a second or two.

All based on my limited ~7hrs of Min/Avg Ops. In campaign I found Chaos honestly a bit easier than Nids, but in Ops I was not expecting them to be so much more intense than Nids (Zoans aside until I learned to stop worrying and trust in melta), and Rubric flamers are (or were) most of the problem.

Got playing the game yesterday, and working through campaign mode - have only done the suggested story operation with the heavy. Quite fun so far but getting incapacitated a lot - I really struggle parrying warriors, or they time their red attacks when I'm in the middle of a chainsword combo and it hits. Anyone on PS5?

I have tried using the Assault class in the trials section and found out that the console commands are too cumbersome for me to pull off. It would be impossible for me to play this class for a whole operation.

You need to hold "Y" in order to jump. Then press the the right stick to hover while also move the right stick in position so that the crosshair indicator for the ground point is on target. Finally you need to press the right bumper to initiate the ground pound. You all do this with the right hand and thus I simply can´t pull it off.

There is cross-platform play. You can play with console users and PC gamers.

A lesson I have learned with Tyranid Warriors (TW) is this: Don´t do all-out melee attacks as soon as you spot them. Treat combat as a dance with them and act when they do their first move. So be patient, let them attack, parry/dodge, make gun strike(s) and then finish them off either with a melee combo or use your ranged weapon at point blank range.

If you start to do combos on unharmed TW it will interrupt your combo with a counter-attack. This is a recipe for disaster as you won´t last a single area of an operation, if you act in that way every time you meet one.

I still can't remember to dodge instead of blocking red attacks alot of the time lol. Deus_Ex is correct about the warriors - parry them first and then just start 1-2 kicking them (with chainsword) until you can execute. If you get teamed, just bug out and string them out while blasting with primary.

Currently just rounding lvl 15 Tactical and Vanguard playing Substantial on PS5 - would be happy to start leveling up other classes if anyone is just starting on Operations tho.

I have found out that you can interrupt your own combos to do parries. This is very important for staying alive.

We have performed our first Inferno/Lethal run today. Setup was Vanguard, Sniper and Tactical. It was intense. When we reached the first bunker in the Swamp the game threw four lictors in rapid succession at us. Two teamed up against my Vanguard at the same time. We made it to the Abandoned Base, cleared all generators (this time three) and then it was game over. Then we tried again but this time we had a bot on our team. We all died then during the first engagement. Don´t bother playing when not everybody is Lvl 25 and can perform very well with his chosen class.

Difficulty can be termed as "Asian" without exaggeration.
