So it’s that time of year again. Once again I’ll be taking House Jenius to do battle in the annual Hunger Wars in Erie, OH. Hopefully I can do better than last year. A 2-1 record wasn’t bad. This year I’m adding in an Exaction squad to fill in that last 100 pts. I was using a Vindicare assassin until his points nearly doubled with the codex drop. If he either goes down and/or any of the knight units drop in points I do plan to bring him instead. There is a planned MFM update before the tournament (10/26, tentative date). You can see my report on last year’s run here

Also the weekend following that is my FLGS ExtraLife event. As part of that, one of our organizers wants to try and put as many points on the table as possible. To this end the full might of House Jenius will be deployed. Assisted by a pair of warhound scout titans I’m looking at 9K possible right now.

For this event I’m going to try and build and paint a Valiant and Lancer for the event. This will bring my total to 10k on my own. Plus give me some epic picture opportunities as they battle for 18 hours. Included below is the current list, I believe I have more armigars painted so will update it once I get a confirmed head count.

What is a little crazy is that I’m not going to be fielding all of my knights, just the ones from my custom house, and I’m not even done building it up either.

 

As with last year I'll add in any training bouts as they happen. For the tournament my usual ride share companions will be taking up Necrons and either nids or tau (she hasn't decided yet).

Sorry for the lack of updates, life has been distracting. I have been working on stuff though, even got a game this weekend.

 

First up a pict of my exaction squad. I didn’t realize how armoured they were so the design didn’t come out exactly how i liked, but good enough for battle ready.

While I got the first turn, the terrain was a double edge sword, protecting both of us. I wasn’t able to fully destroy his heavy destroyer unit during the game. I did manage to keep it below strength so only had 1 or two shots coming my way a turn. His skorpekh destroyer units didn’t fair too well, the paladin wiped one out with no damage taken. While a tag team of a warglaive and moriax took out the other with the warglaive taking heavy damage, he died to a heavy gauss shot soon after finishing the unit. The c’tan didn’t last long, after he advanced deep striked it by my home objective it took the heavy weapons of the castellan and a helverin only to be finished off with stubber fire from the paladin. 

 

Speaking of the paladin, he did pretty well. Took out a full squad of skorpekh destroyers pretty much on his own and helped wipe out a warrior squad, in addition to getting the kill steal on the c’tan. The warriors held on for a bit, regening most of the damage away until i could focus on them, which is what you should do. The moriax did well, even getting to use their HI ability more then once. Also the change to actions in Pariah Nexus helped as i was able to terraform two objectives at once and hold them. 

 

We both had at least one good round of secondaries, mine in the first with secure no mans land/extend battle lines and him the following turn with extend battle lines/no prisoners when he managed to kill the arbites and a helverin. Rest of the game, not so much. I managed a win mostly due to grabbing and holding primary. I held one nml objective the entire game, he just couldn’t get the OC on it. Granted it was guarded by the castellan, so was an issue. 

 

I know I didn’t use said arbites too well, I ran them up to grab an objective turn one which put them and the helverin near them at the objective, but also in the ruins so were the only real targets for his force turn one. The arbites did manage to survive a round from his destroyers, but a second volley finished them.  I either need to use them to hold the home objective, Imperial law’ing the unit that has the best chance to come take it from them or on a far flank for other actions, but always behind cover. 

 

Picts from the game. His army is really well painted, dubbed Cyrocrons for obvious reasons. Only reason we both didn’t take the painted bonus is cause he was one heavy destroyer down and I was proxying the arbites. Both are done at the time of this posting.

On the additional knight front, both the lancer and valiant have been primed and I have started work on them. I do have to dig up the warhounds, I have a bad feeling i need to do a quick conversion and repair on one of them. Shouldn’t take too long as long as I can keep focused.

Not getting another practice game in before the tournament, but ready as I’ll ever be. I’ve been spending my time that I have slowly working on the valiant and lancer for the megabattle the following week. Here is a pict of a dry fit of the lancer to get the positioning correct for now.

I do want to do a scenic base for the lancer, but don’t have the time or parts right now. So for this I’m going to use these lags later on the acheron once I get my hands on it later in a few months. Will say the hardest part of these is the new weapons as I have to figure out how I want to paint these. Especially since these are one offs, unlike my armigars. Also need to dig out the warhounds and check on their conditions. Kind of holding that off until after the tournament so i can concentrate on these two I’m working on. 

So Thrusday my FLGS ran a greentide horde event for Orkotober. Each person was to bring a 750 pts force. Only modified rule was that no CP was generated and the orks respawned when killed. Your goal was to kill as much as possible. For this I brought:

 

Canis Rex
Moriax w/ lightning lock, siege claw, rad cleanser
Heleverin w/ heavy stubber

 

Mostly due to Rex just being a beast (which is why he got more expensive) and while CP isn’t generated, abilities that change strats to 0 cost do work. So canis can use 1 CP strats and the moriax gets it’s free HI. Not that it mattered.

 

Orks got first turn (roll off that had to be done three times) and they popped the moriax. It did take the brunt of the stompa we were facing. The helverin only managed to get two shots through on a bunra bomber while canis joined a IF infantry block into the fray. Las-pulsar dropped half the stompa’s wounds and the multilaser finished off a grot squad to give him change access to the main line. He charged into a battlewagon and group of killacans, tank shocked the battlewagon for a few wounds and wiped out the killacans with the backhand of freedom. 

 

Canis was then surrounded by beastsnaggs and the stompa, after the snaggs shaved a few wounds off the stompa fully knocked his block off (50 wounds). The helverin downed the bomba and in our next (and final turn) managed to take out another ork fighter and stubber a weirdboy to death. 

 

Here are a few pictures from the event. The stompa did get killed in the last turn, so no revive for it. The IF player next to me lost all 40 of his Interessors, only his captain survived with a wound left. The eldar player on my other side took a full squad of wraithguard lead by a spiritseer and two wraithlords. Cause of course. She lost a wraithlord (to beastsnaggas) and 10 wraithguard to the ork army focusing fire on her cause the ork player HATED wraithguard. They did manage to nearly kill a battlewagon with return fire. She ended the game with 3 guard left (spiritseer for the win)

 

Afterwards there was a random prize drawing. Dice gods be with me on that as I walked away with… a beastboss.the other prize was a battlewagon, but someone got it first. Oh well.

Also saturday was the Hunger Wars charity tournament. Combined my group brought up 332 (personally brought 96 of that) cans of the 1407 the event got. Went 2-1 and placed 7th, lost to sisters (he went to net 1st place and was a GT regular), won against a tank company guard and a non-deathwing army. I’ll have a full report later this week. Not many pictures as this was a timed event.

Ok, so few highlights from the tournament this weekend. Since this was a BCP event i can grab my opponent’s lists from it they will be included in the spoilers. I will say that the full block on floor one rule really got me. Also the table setups made it impossible for me to really gets into the corners of the field that were blocked by said terrain. This created a safe zone for smaller models. Which I understand but setup and rulings like that give certain style of armies a leg up. So if that is the case this will be the last time I do a GT style tournament. I don’t like this style and it brings out an groundless ugly feeling I’d rather not experience again.

He kept his scions and Eradicator in reserve. Had one of each armigar on a flank, a pair on the other with the big boys taking the center. He got first turn (a theme for this day as I never got first turn) and rushed one objective and moved his tanks out to get shot lines. He managed to kill one warglaive and heavily wound my paladin. The objective he rushed he started to terraform. The trio wasn’t having that and moved in. Warglaive and helverin killed a nearby hellhound, moriax starting to terraform while the warglaive charged and nearly wiped out the cadians terraforming the objective. Helverin on the flank hiding the ruin and started terraforming that one. Paladin took center and started that one while doing some damage to the the vanguisher. He managed to kill the paladin and shot and tank shocked the helverin to death. I pretty much lost that flank, but managed to move and melta the vanquisher with the warglaive, the moriax joining for a behind enemy lines fun while the helverin held the objective taking the other flank. The castellan managed to kill in order, the tank commander, a battle tank, two hellhounds and the eradicator while terraforming the central and enemy objectives by the end. His hid warlord and a squad hid in the corner while one tried to go after my home objective and were cut down by the arbites. I had a moriax move to cover the home objective in case a second squad that was hiding in another ruin moved out. The warglaive made the lap to help the castellan complete the last terraform. His Executioner lost more wounds to overheats then me. Not complaining. I also luck out on secondaries. First one was Assassinate and Bring it down. So TC was lit up like a firework.

So this was a lesson in making sure to always bring indirect to competitive games and a return to form of the BSery that Fate dice used to be. My opponent was the regional champ and basically dismantled my army piece by piece. I managed to kill a squad, transport, the seraphims and one tank. Now I lasted all 5 turns due to stupid luck in saves, but yeah it was bad. He also ignored the arbites the entire game which was my only unit left. The exoriists were the stars as it was 6+ shots, most wounding, and the first one thru was 5-6 dmg. Don’t think he got below a 4 on dmg rolls, not counting the fate dice he was using. I kept a warglaive in reserve so he survived till turn four and managed to kill a castigator.

My experience at this tournament kept going down hill from here. Kid was off, like weirdly off. Kept asking the same questions several times and was second guessing himself multiple times. Took him a good 1.5 hrs to get through his first turn. Anyway his deathwing knights were eating the armigars I fed them. I made the mistake of not trying to charge them turn 1 as they were in the building next to it and I just blanked cause I was trying to make up for lost time. In the end after time (we had finished turn 3) was called he tried to roll thru the actions when I was more of wanting to talk it out so I could send in the score. When I gave him what I had he gave me a different #, seems he didn’t give me any primary on T2 even though I had earned some, plus omitted my earned raised banners. His score on both of ours was correct. Anyway. We corrected what was missing and got in the score after the TO’s second request. 

 

That aside I did make other mistakes, I should have just ignored the center and kept the big boys on the corners to do actions and provide fire support. I had fire lanes to the back corner that I could force him to with the arbites spread around the home objective. Also should have just went for the basic strike on the paladin versus the deathwing, one fail would have removed one easily. His jumppackers did manage MW, but that was all the damage they could. The eradicators were removed after they nearly crippled the castellan by the castellan and paladin. The deathwing managed to shave half the wounds from the paladin. I did manage to hold at least two nml objectives the entire game. Which with my bad secondary draws is the only way I actually managed to win. That and the painting bonus. 

 

Score: 70-67
 

Ok, so for some better news.

 

Almost done the two new knights. Here is the Lancer near battle ready, just have to finish the weapons. It's the same with the valiant.

I'm only going to have one warhound ready though, the other is too heavily damaged to fix up and have ready in the two days I have till the event. But that is fine. I still have to figure out how I'm going to transport all of them and still need to do a final inspection. Which I'll be doing tonight.

Ok, so I got off work early and went straight to finishing off the two knights and getting things checked and packed.

 

So here are the two new knights for House Jenius (frame names pending). With this I also have all the codex knights done, so only the FW variants are left for the collection.

I'll get better pictures during the event. Also I managed to find a container that fit most of my spare foam trays. So the house is packed and ready to go tomorrow.. 

Ok, so the megabattle lasted for 6 hours before the EO called it cause there wasn't many that came.

 

We had the following for this:

Order - Imperial Knights (me) and two Blood Angel players

Disorder - Imperial Guard (EO), Worldeaters, Tyranids, and Necrons (joined turn 2)

 

It was called in Orders favor as the House was not falling, unlike the players, by the end of the third turn.  I did a good showing, losing only 5 armigars and 2 questoris knights. I'll have a detailed report later, I also want to gather pictures from the other players.

Well that was a fun bout. The house walk went well. The double table was divided into two diagonal deployment zones. The other large army, Imperial Guard with scout titan support deployed with the disorder side, I was on order’s side. Because of how the deployment was, we ended up on two different tables effectively. The focus of my house was on the worldeater player that deployed in front of me as well as some nids that were on the same table. 

 

Here were a few of the special rules for this:
Turns were one hour long. 
Each army ran thru their phases at their own pace, but once you moved from one phase to another you were done. No going back.
Units were still viable targets for shooting in the turn they were charged. 
Destroyed units could come back via Strategic Reserve.  

 

Strategums cost $1 per CP to use
Rerolls were $1 each (no limit)
Orbital Strike for $5
Story event for $10

 

I dropped in my usual $40 though only went through about half in doing Rotates, Tank Shocks and re-rolls. Mostly in protecting my big boys from taking fire from the enemy warhounds. Basically had my close range knights to the fore with the ranged ones at the rear. Vindcare was in a building with the arbites in a rear zone building. Armigars were layered, front to back, warglaives, moriaxi, helverins. The helverins weren’t to leave the deployment zone to keep their anti-fly rule active. I was supported by two blood Angel players who took on the traitor guard, nids, later necrons and basically covered my flank while I rolled up the side. I’ll recount what I can, but man there was a lot to keep track of.

 

The WE player kept Angron off the board to start, wanting to have him descend on his turn as Khrone intended. He went after the blood angels in the first round. The fire coming down field from my house wiped out ⅔ of his force to start, which just came back during his turn. I managed to get a few knights into CC, cracking open a transport and wiping out some eightbound. During the disorder turn my line was counter-charged of couse, a pair of Brigand wardogs did moderate damage to Canis Rex and an armigar. The guard player marked a wide area around the Vindicare with three deathstrikes. There was no way he was escaping the area. 

 

From what I could see next to me, the BA player took some loses from the WE and nids colliding with her lines. Angron slapped a brutalis dread without a second thought. The genestealers ripped apart some death company. Not sure how the second BA player was fairing as he was all the way on the other side of the field. Heard he did some damage to a super heavy tank, lord knows how much damage he took in return.

 

Second turn I finished off Angron with a trio of helverins, Castellan took out the brigands, Errant fired a squad of ratlings that appeared on a nearby building. Killed several eightbound and vehicles as my second line moved in. The Warhound almost killed the tyrannofex, low rolls left it alive. Melee saw the destruction of a warglaive and the rest of the front line taking more damage, but several held with a few wounds remaining. The gallant rushed in to try and relieve the Lancer from the mob that was swarming it. 

 

On the Disorder’s turn they had reinforcements in the form of a Necron horde arriving. He dropped in between the guard and nid player, so out of my immediate zone. Angron came back and descend on my front line, engaging the gallant in combat. During this the brigands arrived again and finally got a kill, dropping a nearby warglaive. It detonated and finished off Canis Rex, who then also exploded and heavily wounded several units. The explosions not done, the deathstrikes fired off. One only nipped a helverin and caused minor damage but did nearly kill the vindicare. I took another missile which grazed three armigars to finish the assassin off.  He then moved the third back another target on his table. In melee the gallant sparred with Angron and with a little luck only took 24 wounds which I saved 10 of them. It returned the favor by dropping him to have strength. In the melee surrounding them another warglaive dropped but was avenged by a support moriax. The second line was coming up fast and the lancer and errant were doing the Emperor’s work. 

 

In what would be our final turn, I did a little model switching due to a miscalculation in my list. I forgot I used my multi-part Questoris as a crusader most of the time, but for this it was a Preceptor. Swapped my Canis for the preceptor and rearmed as a Crusader that came in on reserves. Once again the helverins dropped Angron, the brigands died to fire from the castellan and warhound. Those involved in combat did what they could to lower the number of WE that would be striking first in the fight phase. The warden and crusader took to blasting the flank of WE and nids. The warden wiping out a unit of genestealers on it’s own. The lancer and gallant swung the line to crash into the melee that was in the second wave. Both managed maxed Tank Shocks, dropping marines and jackels. 

In the final disorder turn the gallant went down not to the warhounds triple tubolaser barrage, but to a pair of basilisk rounds. Angron dropped in again and this time went after the BA player. The other BA player had left after the prior turn so it was just me and one BA player with a decent force rolling up. He was engaging with basically a little of all the disorder forces. The WE moved in on what they figured was easier prey only to be proven wrong as a few judicars gave the BA the quick reaction they needed to blunt the combined WE and nid assault. 

 

At that point both the necron player and the WE player were exhausted and were going to bounce. The game was called at the end of turn three. This was mostly due to the disorder only having the guard player still semi-able (he was fading as well) to face me and the BA player who I’m guessing was more then willing to continue as was I due to just being in gamer mode.

 

Setup had to be delayed so first round didn’t start until 11am, game was called at 6pm with a 1 hour food break during the 2nd turn. 

From what I could tell I had wiped out the WE player at least twice, no unit of his had survived the entire bout. 

 

It was a fun run and something I wouldn’t mind doing again. I might bring the house again if we do something like the Daemonceber event from last year.
