Xenith
Agree. Really nice set but even if it had 14 chainswords that would be better because then you can make 2 assault squads with 7 chainswords and 3 power weapons each. Oh and a couple more bolt pistols too. I was thinking 11 would be ideal minimal addition to the kit, so you can have 11 chainswords, 3 specials and a serge in a 15 man unit. They could have easily have dropped a power sword to add an extra chainsword. Between the command squad and sergeant upgrade frame, we have plenty of swords! I guess you could always give a model a bolt pistol and scanner or melta bomb? Valkyrion
Yea, ideally they could have just flipped the CAD file and made 5x left and 5x right handed bp's + swords. That would make the kit 11/10. Can't be having folk making their own plastic destroyers and moritats dual pistolling about the place. darkhorse0607
I’m guessing the FW Chainaxes are OOP? Nope. The phobos kit is still available, granted it only comes with 5 chainaxes and 5 pistols, but it's there I get the frustration, but this kit was never going to have much (if at all) legion-specific weaponry. It's not what it was designed for. Of course then if it did, it would turn into "Where are my plastic power scythes, where are the chainglaives for my Night Lords" etc. This was supposed to be a generic kit, and while I think the heads (as much as I like them, they're pretty good) could've been dropped for more weapons, I think setting expectations was important here Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf, Dalmyth, Madmark666 and 4 others 3 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384146-legion-melee-weapons-upgrade-set/page/3/#findComment-6068344 Share on other sites
arnesh88
I'm lucky enough to have a group of heresy players where we can trade for whichever melee weapons any of us prefer. i like the style of the weapons. i was surprised to see spears in the kit, granted only 2. I ilke the thunder hammers being 2-handed, and that one of the hands is near the pomel, making it easier to snip off and reglue if we wanted it one handed for a character. Of course then if it did, it would turn into "Where are my plastic power scythes, where are the chainglaives for my Night Lords" etc. With the melee sprue now out, and pretty much ruling out the approach GW took for ranged weapons (i.e. multiple boxes with large numbers of a few options); I was wondering how GW could reasonably make chainaxes available in plastic. I think there are a few options: A World Eaters-specific box that includes; with chainaxes, the various gladiatorial weapons (meteor hammers etc) and some odds and ends like alternative arms/helms. A Traitor-themed melee kit with WE chainaxes alongside NL chainglaives, DG power scythes etc. Half-sized sprues of fairly generic chainaxes. ... or they don't; and chain axes are restricted to resin. Of the three, I would have though the third most plausible in light of this release... but on the other hand, it feels like resin releases are becoming increasingly rare. Given that GW can seemingly turn sufficient profit from relatively niche sprues like Necromunda gang upgrades, I wouldn't be startled to see Legion-specific boxes turn up at some point. roryokane and Aarik 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384146-legion-melee-weapons-upgrade-set/page/3/#findComment-6068355 Share on other sites

Well they're doing the legion specific Armoury sets so WE ones will be likely down the line. Only SoH and BA have been done so far. Mogger351
Well they're doing the legion specific Armoury sets so WE ones will be likely down the line. Only SoH and BA have been done so far. Sorry to be salty but they're not world eaters specific as noted elsewhere in here. That said, the upgrade packs are £24 and likely contain enough axes for 5 guys and a slew of bits. Again, I know I'm likely being unreasonable, but when it's a literal objectively better free upgrade you're punished for not taking, it's ridiculous not to have them for sale in a palatable manner when you need dozens. Instead I guess I'll continue with counts-as that everyone has an axe even if they've got a chainsword. Antarius
This looks great! They aren't world eaters specific but they're the only army that takes them in any real number and are likely to be used enough vs other options. They're more than likely to be in that armoury when it comes out. I get what you're saying and I'd like em in plastic too but I'm pretty sure that's the way it's going to go for the near future. Mr Farson
Mediocre This would have been excellent had it dropped along the aod box or even the assault marines. This isn't good enough however to justify the two and a half year wait for it. It misses two charnable weapons and treats the heavy chainsword as though it's a 1 in 5 weapons rather than it being everyone in the unit can take one. The lack of a Terminator weapon set is also a glaring omission. Good selection in bolt pistols and one handed bits. The choice to include power swords, plasma pistols and power fists when they come with every plastic infantry set is also ridiculous Casual Heresy, SvenIronhand, TheArtilleryman and 4 others 1 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384146-legion-melee-weapons-upgrade-set/page/3/#findComment-6068372 Share on other sites

Mr Farson
Thermonuclear take. Accurate take People praise mediocre releases far too easily Gw puts out plenty of low effort mediocre kits and this is one of them Take the plastic striking scorpions, a plastic remake that adds nothing new to the kit, a mediocre release. Compare that to the new vespid that received a visual re design along with new unit options alongside weapons, an good release. darkhorse0607
The lack of a Terminator weapon set is also a glaring omission. Why would they release a box of Terminator upgrades when the Terminators haven't been resculpted, and the upgrade kits for the old ones already exist? Are you suggesting they release a pack and then sculpt/release a new pack for the inevitable new Terminators? Or just release a pack for the new scale that hasn't even come out yet ThaneOfTas, Joe, Aarik and 3 others 1 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384146-legion-melee-weapons-upgrade-set/page/3/#findComment-6068379 Share on other sites

The mere act of converting something to plastic doesn't mean it's "good" Sometimes, simply taking a good design and changing the medium is exactly what a kit needs. Changing things for the sake of it doesn't automatically make them good either.
