CL_Mission
Just saw this. Is this the first we've heard of a re-work since the Imperial Agents codex? ZeroWolf
Yeah I'd be cautious as to what this will entail. Sounds more like errata to Imperial agents rather than a new codex deathwatch. Indy Techwisp
 Yeah I'd be cautious as to what this will entail. Sounds more like errata to Imperial agents rather than a new codex deathwatch.  Yeah, it probably will be. That said, there are ways they could make Ordo Xenos (a.k.a Black Spear 2: Electric Boogaloo) into a good detachment, or make taking just a bunch of DW as allies not bad for Marine armies. Also with what seems to be an increased focus on DW there's the chance DW end up getting a new kit in some way shape or form (a Killteam '24 Release, maybe?) DemonGSides
The post-release refresh of Ad mech, despite taking way too long, has been VERY welcome across other areas of the internet, so it has a chance of making at least some sort of a splash with the deathwatch update. Dr. Clock
 Yeah I'd be cautious as to what this will entail. Sounds more like errata to Imperial agents rather than a new codex deathwatch. Cautious, sure, but at least they are committing to doing something to 'reunify' the Killteam sheets with Space Marines codex in some way, shape or form, and I don't think DWatch players are really asking for too too much to get that. Why are they the one Chamber militant that doesn't get a choice on which Codex to build a detachment from?  I was all primed to buy the codex, but I didn't based purely on the nonsense restriction that I can't take a Corvus and 2 Kill Teams as 'allies' for my... Deathwatch SM list. Moving Corvus to Requisition is the minimum necessary change to my mind, but I bet that's not what they're thinking.  I won't be surprised if they just say 'oh yeah... you can still take Ordo Xenos as a Space Marines detachment', in which case there are xyz limitations (no scouts or whatever) but all Marines do get Deathwatch keyword. Then you can just... build the list pretty much like index and still take 2 melta chimeras and 2 Subductors or whatever as allies for the vibes.  The Primari killteams are probably still gone, but I don't care about those tbh - I just want to be able to take some normal spacemarine units that interact with my army rules!  Equally acceptable but less likely I'd say is something like 'Imperial Agents Alien Hunters Detachments may include up to 1/4 points of units taken from Codex: Space Marines (excluding scouts)'.  So yeah - hopeful sign, but still cautious.  Cheers,  The Good Doctor.   ZeroWolf and VengefulJan 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6068975 Share on other sites
Azaiel
I´m cautiously optimistic. I still remember the Psychic Awakening "update" DW got in a WD...  As been mentioned earlier here its probably a digital update to the Imperial Agents book which removes/reworks some of the restrictions. But hey its better than nothing! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6068989 Share on other sites

Matrindur
Articles are up now and this is from the animation article:   PS: On the subject of the Deathwatch. Lots of you have gotten in touch over the last few weeks with your thoughts on the way that Deathwatch Kill Teams now work in games of Warhammer 40,000. Ok, we hear you - a couple of squads is not enough, you want to mobilise the might of a full Watch Fortress! While such deployments are rare in the 41st Millennium, they are not unknown, and the Ordo Xenos (and the Warhammer Studio, for that matter) is not deaf to the many calls for aid. So we can confirm today that, in December, we’ll be releasing a digital update with more options to take your Deathwatch army to the field and lay low the alien menace. Watch this space....  ZeroWolf, CL_Mission and skylerboodie 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6068996 Share on other sites
lansalt
What Deathwatch really needs is a new primarized kit. It's silly that they don't have a team in KT, the game named after their own forces. But it makes me optimistic that they've been featured not only in SM2 but also the unexpected animation episode released yesterday. darkhorse0607, LightningClawLeonard, Lemondish and 3 others 1 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6069003 Share on other sites
Jings
Hilarious. They release the Deathwatch as a full army, let players build that army for the better part of a decade, and then suddenly bugger up the entire army.  Then, when fixing it after immensely screwing up the release, act as if it's just players unhappy because they tried to make the force more lore-friendly in the new detachment rather than limit and remove as much conversion work as possible.  What an absolute joke. Glad I skipped 10th. But it makes me optimistic that they've been featured not only in SM2 but also the unexpected animation episode released yesterday. Â There's now been two cases of Primaris marines using the DW Veterans storm shield (the 9th ed Codex cover and this animation). Since GW is so adamant "if it's not a model, it doesn't exist" in every other case, this has been giving me hope for a few years now lol. Even a new upgrade sprue could do wonders after seeing how much they fit in to the newer ones (BT, DA, BA). roryokane and lansalt 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6069045 Share on other sites

Robbienw
 There are no problems with the mk10 It’s ugly, has loads of unnecessary plating, helmet is a poor imitation of Mk4.  Armour arrangement around the greaves and ankles looks bad, like they are wearing a ski boot.  Knee rims are unnecessary and look silly.  Needs more midriff armour.  Plenty of problems. Lemondish
This constant reference to how "rare" it is to see full Watch Fortress mobilization needs to stop. It's nonsense. Â Tell me, how rare is it to mobilize 90 Death Company Marines? How rare is it to mobilize Custodes? How rare is it to see Grey Knights? Rarity in lore should not have an impact on rules support, and usually it doesn't. Somehow DW are treated as an outlier. Â Rule of Cool shouldn't ever be getting in the way of crunch. Somebody at GW seems to be forgetting that. Â But that's enough belly achin'. This is a glorious day, brothers. Mazer Rackham
 It’s ugly, has loads of unnecessary plating, helmet is a poor imitation of Mk4.  Armour arrangement around the greaves and ankles looks bad, like they are wearing a ski boot.  Knee rims are unnecessary and look silly.  Needs more midriff armour.  Plenty of problems.  I don't want to take this too off-topic, and I don't want to fall into any of the obvious pitfalls of broaching the subject of 'which am bestest', but since this is a discussion forum, I thought maybe I'd throw my own opinion/hat in.  I agree. For me Mk X Tacticus is a bit...not quite there. Also, I agree that the knee rims don't look good. I know why they're there, but I would have chosen sloped armour over having a potential blade/object/detritus trap. I can live with the bulky cuisses (thigh plates) and tassets (belt armour panels found on Hellblasters etc - admittedly I'm no expert on nomenclature, so if I'm off, I stand corrected). The greaves could have been better, more akin to the MK VIII they no doubt take inspiration from. I know why they look like a ski-boot, because they essentially are a ski-boot, to go over Phobos (which I love, BTW) but they do look a bit too clunky for me. A smoother rendition of the Mk VIII would have been just dandy.  The abdomen armour is ok. There's enough flexsteel and plating to make it look like it works with body mechanics.  The gorget on the Mk VIII, for me, is better. Yes, the Mk X has it, but it's a weird angle, and the more rounded Mk X helmet does nothing to protect the neck. Sure, you're trading neck mobility off for protection, but the Mk VII baleen does a better job with footprint over the clavicle. The Mk IV is also a gorgeous design with sloped glacis across the lower visor giving a hard-chisel look that means 'da bizzness'.  I wouldn't say there are problems, per se, but definitely changes my attraction to the silhouette/design aesthetic, for me, as a whole. Frogian
Yeah, the rarity argument is always pretty rubbish - and quite easily answered by it being the rare battles that are the ones that are more fun to play!. Nobody complains when the books focus on the main characters, but for some reason we can't with our games?   roryokane 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384170-deathwatch-receiving-a-digital-re-work/#findComment-6069065 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Â That's just, like, your opinion, man.
