Former rumour, now fact. Updating the OP with a link to the Warhammer Community article on it.

In the rumour thread at TGA (an Age of Sigmar forum), a poster name Elarin (who has previously had good information) has said the following (in reply to a post listing current rumours):

Quote

You can add a new KT Starter Set: Space Marines (Space Marines Heroes Series 4) vs Death Guard (Space Marines Heroes Series 3) and cardboard/MDF terrain

I was told it's not just blank cardboard/MDF, but it has pictures of buildings similar in style to Hivestorm terrain printed on

Edit: a follow up, as noted by Matrindur below:

I edited my original post as my source assumed it's MDF based on the pictures they saw; however, I'm not sure if they didn't mistake cardboard terrain for MDF

They described it as multiple flat walls and obstacles with images printed on them. For me, it sounds somewhat 2-dimensional and I feel like it might be cardboard rather than MDF

One weird thing - and I don't know if this helps or hurts the rumour - is that page five of the Angel of Death pdf does have the SM and DG Heroes facing off against each other in a picture.

(It shows all seven SMs and all seven DG dudes, despite the Angels of Death team only letting you field six.)

Sensible. As fun as region exclusive models can be to anyone in that region, it was annoying to get my hands on those kits for a reasonable price. Having an avenue to get these easily now is most welcome.

Id say it helps the rumor ? especially since the DG bases have been repainted from their Spacemarine heroes days.

As in a previous thread about the starter I half expected them to go the re-used etb kit route like warcry, but 40k has a smaller pool of those, especially in the variety kill team would require. Apart from the rogue trader vs gellerpox, Deathguard vs Spacemarines was one of the few possibilities in the end, but my thought went more to the early 8th edition etb kits, this is much better.

Small addon from the original poster about the terrain:

This screams boxed game for specific regions or exclusive to Walmart etc to me

Right, but one thing to consider is that the recent Space Marine Adventures game contained these exact same Primaris models, so it seems unlikely they'd do two consecutive "bookstore" style releases that both contain the same minis.

The old KT Starter Set does need replacing, and 2 fully push-fit teams with a number of bespoke loadouts actually lends itself really well to this format.

The last starter set was stripped down version of launch box (Krieg v Orks) but thats not a huge sample :)

MDF terrain and push fit models feels aimed at little Timmys which would be different to how GW has treated KT

Id like this rumour to be true, Id just be pleasantly surprised if it was

The new Space Marine Adventures had five models, not the leader or sniper. The Space Marine Board Game has Titus vs. the Termagaunts. The prior editions of SM:A had Firstborn models – terminators and generic marines.

If they priced the full Kill Teams from both sides with some cardboard terrain in the $75 range, it would be an awesome starter product. You get a nice range of Marine models and some of the best Chaos sculpts ever. If it was framed as a way to get into Kill Team, I find it hard to imagine a better product.

If they do the stripped-down version of Hivestorm, similar to the way they did the last edition, I think it's much less appealing. The models are too fiddly and don't capture the spirit of the game for new players. Warhammer == Space Marines. There are plenty of other factions that provide flavor, but it feels weird not to showcase the iconic faction.

If this set sticks around I'll probably pick it up down the line. The Space Marine Heroes Death Guard are a great set of minis and I'd like to add them to the pile of unpainted Death Guard I've been fostering since 8th edition dropped. Glad to see the Plague caster is included, they're a big improvement over their Dark Imperium counterpart.

It's an interesting selection of models considering that the Space Marines provided can't actually make a legal Angels of Death kill team with the current rules, unless you use the Sergeant as a regular Intercessor.

A proper Death Guard team is great news, though, and long overdue.

I wonder/hope that the DG team can be buildable with a basic PM squad, or if the options will be locked to that box. I know you could kitbash it, but I'm more wondering if the different gunner or heavy melee options will be represented

Everything is doable with the standard plague marine kit, except the sorcerer, which is a malignant plaguecaster.

I have the DG side minus the more recent addition as I got it first time round. I really like these guys.

I dont have the SM team and wasnt that fused on them at the price they were selling for.

The terrain feels very second edition to me despite the printing on it being more recent.

I really hope this is quite low priced though given how mush the two 'heroes' teams cost separately who knowd.

if anything I am actually more disappointed they have done this rather than what they did the last time where it was the same teams but in a smaller box/with less terrain.
