Announced: Kill Team Starter [ex-Rumour] (SM vs DG)

When the loyalists were released in the blind box format they had unique KT rules. This announcement very strongly hints that they will use the Angels of Death rules.

The pictures of the teams on the warcom facebook page named the Space Marines as Angels of Death, and Death Guard as Plague Marine kill team, so pretty much confirmed that they will be using Angels of Death rules. That gives us one new team (for a faction which didn't have one before) and one using existing rules (but also new to this edition).

What a weird but also wonderful box.  The DG going into a starter set before they actually get a team is odd but as the article says the rules will come.  I guess it's just a little sad they didn't get some new sculpts.  Still having the blind box molds easily available is a bonus.

Star has to be the new MDF terrain.  The printing is good enough that at first glance I didn't even realise it was MDF.  Looks a lot sturdier that some of the MDF terrain I have built in the past.  The advantage of being collapsible is huge as well.  So much of my plastic terrain resides in the loft as there is no where else to keep such bulk models but it also makes it a pain to get out.

Technically SFJ is no longer legal as a 7 model team as for AoD, you have to choose between sniper and heavy gunner, but also captain and sgt for the leader. They'll probably just demote the intercessor sgt to a regular intercessor though.

So, the terrain is just 2D cardboard versions of the existing plastic terrain? That's...kinda weak. Especially given how good the terrain from prior KT boxes was.

It is easier for beginners

Historically speaking, will the Starter Handbook be the main rules and cover all of the rules required to play beyond this box? Like the 40k A5 softbacks from previous editions.

I know it won't include campaign rules or other kill team rules, but is it still going to be 100% Kill Team proper, or is it pseudo Kill Team lite just for this box?

I wouldn't worry about it being cheaper than hivestorm as that's a given. The old KT starter was about £70 (and could be found for much less) I want to say, so that's the guide price here. Question is, how much will GW raise the price by (or will the cheaper terrain maintain £70)

Surprised no one's mentioned this, but the Warhammer Youtube channel put up a video several hours ago showing a very basic unboxing (as in just a look at how everything is packed in when you open the set). But they also give a better look at the terrain bits before and after popping them out of their boards. Otherwise it's a pretty generic tutorial for painting the Captain and one of the Plague Marines:

Cost is being reported to 67.50 Pound Sterling (88.28 US Dollar).  So, I am extremely surprised by the cost, if true.

Will be good if true, where is that rumour coming from?

not everyone is happy at the new release apparently :D

price dependent i may get this i like the deathguard minis.

Yowza! That's a lot of money for those minis. I actually got mine not too long ago from a F(L)GS for what amounts to 60 dollars or so, which I thought was fine, but not exactly cheap for seven minis. Here's hoping the new starter set will allow people to acquire them much cheaper

Honestly it sounds like no, you will still need to buy the full book to get all the advanced rules and solo play.

The design filosophy behind this reminds me of:

Altough KT rules are more detailled and although this Gang of NY but Drukhari had no board... Which means no comparison intended except box content design maybe...

Dont remind me of GOC which you could get for cheaper than a box of 3 dark eldar jet bikes now days :(

I wish I had purchased GOC while it was on the market. The models would have been the primary draw, but I am curious about the game: I've referred to Dark Eldar Crusade content as "Drukhari-munda" - it's fabulous. I'm curious about whether or not GOC was a prototype for that. Did they have territories that could be won or lost?

Obviously, I think Crusade is more complete; it involves ALL of the Drukhari units. But the thing about these little prototypes is that they often contain mechanics that get lost when the more complete version is released. Look at KT: the rules published in the 4th ed. BRB had Brute Squads as adversaries to KTs. That was dropped in the more comprehensive KT18 and stayed dropped in the excellent KT21. But they brought it back as an add-on in KT24 because that idea was always a good one.

So what (if anything) from GOC could be resurrected and added to Drukhari-munda to make it that much better? If I had purchased this when it was on the market, I'd know the answer to that question, and I'd also have 2 units of bikes and 2 units of Hellions more than what I currently own.
