The Pounder
I’m looking for some advice. With the Krieg range being moved over to plastic it’s about time the 3rd Siege Regiment was rebuilt. I’d like to start around Christmas but the question is, what get first? I was thinking either some Bullgryn or a Baneblade? Which seems the safest bet? Do you think Bullgryns would go with the new Krieg stuff? INKS
Sure I don't see why not. I think baneblade if you are going for that is safe. they aren't going to remake or rebox that kit I also think Bullgryn is also safe. Ogryn and Bullgryn are part of the squats kill team options. But they are not part of their box. This means GW expects you to buy them separate. which means no new box for them. safe bet. The Pounder
Many thanks INKS! I think I’ll start with the Bullgryn. Probably from Mortian, I feel their models fit better with the aesthetic I’m going for! Pics will follow. The Pounder
After seeing the new Krieg reveals I thought I’d share my first Korpsman for the 3rd Siege Regiment! I went with a muted and grimy look, I’ve used blue as an accent colour (my favourite colour) luckily there are tiny skulls on the transfer sheet to add an army badge. I intend on using it on everything in the force. Korpsman Korpsman Korpsman Korpsman Sadly I have to be patient for the release box now but can wait to get started properly. Nice to be back in the trenches! Bonehead
It's going to be fun to see your progress. I guess we'll all have to be patient until you can get hold of the new stuff. Dang it. The Pounder
Thanks @Bonehead! I’m not completely happy with this scheme. I reckon the grey could use a further highlight maybe? Also the green lenses I painted don’t seem to stand out. It’s gonna be a long December waiting for the preorders!! Bonehead
I'll agree the lenses don't stand out very much and could use a more vivid re-do, but I think the grey is perfect the way it is- the overall muted and desaturated palette with just the blue and potentially the green lenses as the only vibrant colours really works; This is the quintessential grim dark 40 army of them all, after all. A muted palette is incredibly apt for a regiment characterised as fatalistic and morbidly-inclined, and doubly so for ww1-inspired forces. And I think it's going to look dynamite in numbers. Traditionally a Krieg army is a tidal wave of bayonet-waving fanatics. This scheme is just perfect for that. The old phrase 'if everything shines, nothing does' comes to mind. Limit the points of interest for a force that's going to be high in numbers or it'll look messy as a whole. Eyes are a classic- it works. Brighter spots on the shoulders will combine to make the classic triangle drawing the eye to the faceplate, and the eyes will be the focal point. That's my two cents. Emperor Ming
Agree on your points more highlights and lenses dont stand out enough Still looks good thou The Pounder 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384327-the-reformation-of-the-3rd-krieg-siege-regiment/#findComment-6077886 Share on other sites
Arikel
You are right about the lenses, I didn’t realize they were green until you mentioned it. Maybe use a vibrant green (emerald or golf lawn like colours) to make it standout. A bright blue might also work, to match the shoulder trim. The Pounder
Thanks for the constructive and honest feedback! @Bonehead yeah I wanted a scheme I could recreate over a whole force. @Emperor Ming, I’m going to add a further highlight to the grey (it’s gonna bug me if I don’t) @Arikel I used Moot green but it still doesn’t work, I think I’ll try red that should standout a bit better. This is why it’s always good to do a test model! I’ll have a play about and will post a pic after the changes. The Pounder
Well I’ve gone and added another highlight to the grey. I feel it looks better but still keeps the somber and muted colour scheme. Also I changed the colour of the lenses to red, I reckon it shows up well compared to the green I used previously. Here’s the pic: Korpsman I am fairly happy with the painting of this bloke now what do you guys think? DemonGSides
I like the red eyes a lot more than the green. I would, personally, not make them dots but try to fill more of the lens space. They look like angry eyeballs right now, which if is the intent then boom, nailed it, but they read less as lenses and more as eyes. The final grey highlight definitely added some pop! Arikel
Looks smashing dude! Still very grimy and weathered looking but looks sharper, less murky than before. Emperor Ming
Much better Also I wouldn't go crazy with line troopers save the good painting for officers Thats when we can be uber critical What do you mean you haven't highlighted the inner iris of that officers eye! and so on The Pounder 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384327-the-reformation-of-the-3rd-krieg-siege-regiment/#findComment-6078188 Share on other sites

The Pounder
@DemonGSides, thanks, I was going to do them like lenses but the detail is very small so my eyes can only see so much!! @Arikel, cheers, I’m a lot happier with it now. Thanks @Emperor Ming! Haha! Be as critical as you like! The only way I can improve. As far as taking time on line infantry, I can’t help myself! I like to do my best on everything I paint. @Bonehead Glad you liked the updated version! Thanks again for all the interest lads! Hopefully the release will be January as I can’t wait to get going! EmprahsStrongestGuardsman
With a proper grimy paint scheme the new krieg models don't look too bad.
