Its obviously much better than the prior model, much better proportions and details and such. Just like all the others so far, Which is good.

But, after seeing how dynamic they made Jain Zar.... And how improved they made the  static original model, I've honestly been disappointed in most of the phoenix lord type redo's so far.

I knowww I'm in the minority here, but I personally wanted more than just up scaling and better gubbin details. I wanted new dynamic/poetic Eldar poses. They guys are described as jumping and zipping around with super speed and grace. But the models is just "im waiting in the queue for my coffee".

Yes its honouring the original pose, but the original pose was just a guy standing there.

Its like GW were afraid they'd upset the fans if they changed the boring standing still original poses. Which isn't the case.  For me, the poses are the issue, not the model detail.

They give big lumbering space Marines better dynamic poses than Eldar these days. That's soooo wrong to me.

On that note of detail though, his axe, isn't that just a basic wraith guard axe?

I was hoping they'd base his pose on this piece.

Huh...

Love this art but it did make me notice two big changes from the art that I hadn't been able to nail down before.

1. The skirt/kilt thing has changed from a dragonscale to a more standard Aeldari cloth.

2. His axe has gone from a more brutal pick/arrowhead shape on the blade to a more usual axe, akin to the wraithguard as someone else pointed out.

Now change isn't bad per say, the back banner looks awesome for example. And I even like the tactical rock because it vaguely resembles a dragon's claw to me.

But I do somewhat mourn the fact that the changes do shift away from the more 'barbaric' design language that made Fuegan standout.

The language that says 'if you disarm me, I am picking up a rock and bashing your skull in'.

Between his concept, rules and old look, I always got this 'elf conan the barbarian' vibe from him which feels a bit more muted now.

I can't give a judgement on better or worse but it is noticeable.

I like this way better than Mugan Ra's new model.

I feel like the issue with Mugan Ra was that they kinda just threw out his old character.
Going from a stoic samurai juggernaut to a Darksiders/Anime dude.

I also don't agree that the original Mugan Ra "wasn't Eldar enough". His totem, the skull shapes, armour, soul stones. Everything about him is classic to the faction.

But yeah, I think other than maybe the scale loincloth, this is pretty perfect from what we can see. Good job!

Glorious. 11/10 mini.

The only trouble I have is coming up with a colour scheme that feels flamey while still respecting my teal/blues theme of the rest of my army.

Ah, right. Saying "Fuegan es en fuego" is in fact, speaking in foreign, which i guess is enough to get the post hidden.

The meaning is "Fuegan is on fire", so it wasn't anything untowards. I was saying I'm digging the mini.

Also, a pun of a kind. I dig those too.

Brother Reinhard, you inspired me to share the following.  At the bottom of the manual you saw Japanese and Chinese names.  The Japanese is pure transliteration/phonetics, as both Japanese speakers and anime would recorgnise, using katakana, their alphabet for that express purpose.  The Chinese, which both Chinese AND Japanese speakers will recognise because they use our script as kanji, is a huge, YUGE, missed opportunity.  What they used:

弗甘

Fu gan

It's pure transliteration/phonetics.  弗/fu can be a prefix meaning non-/anti-, but 甘/gan is purely there for the sound.  Here's what GW could have, in your humble techpriest's opinion, used that's a pune or a play on words, I'm using the official Chinese Mandarin here:

火甲

Huo jia

This is not pure sound, this signifies something.  火/huo is fire/flame/fiery, then 甲 is armour/shell/A grade, like in school.  These are simple, everyday words yet invoke power and antiquity (because in Chinese, the best poetry uses very basic language) that ALSO refer to how the Phoenix Lords are actually their armour, it's the original Aspect Warrior founder's and every subsequent bearer's soul is infused in it via their spirit stones.

Problem is, it doesn't sound a lot like Fuegan...but now let me say this again in my home dialect, the Hong Kong tongue, Cantonese:

火甲

Fo gaap

BOOM!  And the "p" at the end is silent, it's more like pursing your lips than a sound, so we would say Fogaa(m).  Fuegan!

I know, I KNOW, to everyone else these pictograms are just scribbles, but I saw this late last night in my timezone and it irked me.  It's not the 1st time, happens all the time.  The most memorable instance was in Warcry, where they had cards with special rules in all GW's supported languages, so we could see the Chinese and other languages, including Japanese (again, they use some Chinese characters, so we can make it out).  The Chinese translations of Warcry magical abilities was like formal transcription...while the Japanese version read like poetry, I swear if you read out all the rules in sequence, you'd discover it was a haiku.  There's got to be at least 1 fluent Chinese speaker in Nottingham, c'mon.

Anyway, I almost want to get this mini just to replace the banner with calligraphy of the above.  I don't even like Eldar.

On another place I was suddenly wondering if its possible if instead ( or in addition to.) an advance armybox release the 3 known Phoenix lords of this release get a shared boxset initially instead. a Heralds of the Rhana dandra -30 years anniversary- kind of thing. With Asurmen being seen earlier by auspex(?), and Fuegan leaked now with a 2024 copyright on the booklet despite the release happening a couple of months into 2025.

However I think boxsets always have shared instruction booklets right ?

As for the model itself, Fuegan wasnt my favorite phoenix lord and this doesnt change that, despite being a very nice miniature The flamer and helmet are just not really my flavor of OTT. However the assembly instructions show the potential it has.. I can see just replacing the flamer with a blade and head and it makes a nice leader model that subtly blends Incubi/Carftworld and corsair aesthics. A Lieutenant, or Baron, to my Visarch->Stellarch conversion ( my prefered name for corsair prince.)

added that a 2024 release would fall under a 30 years anniversary

I haven't been following the rumors, do we think new fire dragons will be coming out any time soon as well? And what about Karandras? Striking scorpions came out not too long ago, would make sense to make a new version of him.

If they plan on redoing all the aspects and phoenix lords this and next edition I might get them and finally do an Eldar army. Would be pretty cool having them all and like an avatar of khaine, comes out to just under 2,000pts.

In Valrak's latest vid, he said that new Fire Dragons were rumoured. However there was no Karandras rumour at all, and I can't remember where I heard it but apparently GW forgot about him completely. At least in terms of this eldar refresh. They might have remembered in enough time to get a mini ready for the end of narrative campaign (assuming that rumour was accurate anyway).

Can't remember if Barroth was mentioned in the video but we should be getting at least 3 phoenix lords this time around (including the brand new warp spider one).

By the by, does Fugan here solve any rumour engines? Seems like the sort of model that would have been featured on them.

For units it's allegedly swooping hawks, fire dragons, and warp spiders. For Phoenix Lords it's Fuegan, Baharroth, and the one for Warp Spiders. Other than that Auspex Tactics claims to have seen a remade Asurmen, which is not mentioned for the other rumours for the early 2025 slot, but he could easily be slotted into the end-of-edition campaign slots like Farsight, Snikrot, Lion, etc.

What a beauty, fantastic redo of a classic model, basically a 4k update, which is what they should be!

Fantastic update. Perfectly in keeping with the old mini but bringing him slap bang into the 21st century. Should I just give GW my wallet for this release or will I need to sell a kidney too?

Just noticed that they have reversed him.

We're almost at that time again, which is crazy. I think I've played as many games of 40k this edition as I used to play each month in 9th.

Not quite, we are less than half way through 10th edition (assuming usual 3-year cycle). We have more than the same to go again.

So, apparently this is another New Dante situation?
Guess we'll find out if that's true soon.

Kind of - some guy ordered a Kairic Acolytes kit and rather than get the correct instructions for said kit, he got the instructions for the new Fuegan instead.

He didn't actually get the mini itself, which is why there's no sprue or mini pics.

I'm not entirely unfamiliar with the eastern scribbles myself, though my knowledge is more concentrated towards the eastern island folk speak.

Still, it would've made all the sense to me to see fire in the chinese name, instead what we get simply looks like vague and ungraspable abstractness.

Loved your analysis and anecdote

It's an interesting issue with Eldar. In theory a bit of dynamic posing is ideal for Eldar to look substantially different in theme with Imperial, particularly Space Marine, posing.

The issue is how hit and miss they can be like that. Striking Scorpions had an interim batch of cartoonily poor models, once upon a time.

But it's probably a moot consideration anyway as this particular Phoenix Lord is supposed to be stoic and tough, which isn't particularly emphasised by a prancing about, well Eldar I guess.

Plus there's an undercurrent of battle preparedness in the pose, which has it's own draw.

Doesn't mean you're wrong, just some issue to work around that the designers had to consider. Sometimes the path of least resistance and all that.

June 2023 for 10th, likely June 2026 for 11th.

We know there's nothing more for 40k this year, so we've got everything for the first half of the edition. Eldar are squarely in the 2nd half of the edition and if they drop near June that'll be in the last third.

I hasten to remind you of the 10 or so books that we know will have likely less than a years worth of use.

Eldar are closer to summer and might be late winter/ early spring. Summer is for the Wolves (rumoured)
