I'm sold. Fuegan will be my first updated Phoenix Lord - Jain and Maugan just haven't been quite my jam as yet, but Fuegan and Karandras were the ones I enjoyed most back in 2nd and Fuegan is honestly pitch perfect as for me, a 2nd Ed. Eldar originalist. I foresee a substantial amount of new Ulthwé in my queue for 2025, and I'll likely get a head start with some Reapers or Scorpions before year end ; )

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Brother Reinhard, you inspired me to share the following.  At the bottom of the manual you saw Japanese and Chinese names.  The Japanese is pure transliteration/phonetics, as both Japanese speakers and anime would recorgnise, using katakana, their alphabet for that express purpose.  The Chinese, which both Chinese AND Japanese speakers will recognise because they use our script as kanji, is a huge, YUGE, missed opportunity. [snip]

I agree here that this one could have been both phonetic and expressive. However, to defend GW's translation, sometimes the Chinese really is just a collection of sounds that makes the most sense to a Chinese ear (I know you know this, but wanted to share for people who may think what GW did was just pure laziness). For example, the Mandarin for my city is "休斯顿" or "Xiusidun." Barely even sounds like the real name, and translating each character separately just makes nonsene!

The Mandarin for my own English name is a couple of characters that when translated phonetically actually sound like a completely different name. Sometimes, the order of sounds used for a European word may not make sense or appeal to someone who is used to thinking and speaking with the patterns of a Chinese dialect. So GW may have given "Fuegan" to a Chinese translator who looked at it and thought "yeah, 弗甘 sounds right to me!"

Side Note - I think they should have called my town "牛国" but they named it before I got here.

Unless all the metal and resin Pl's will be redone in plastic, I guess some will be retired to legends?

Cant see them all getting new models:ermm:

They might keep them around anyway. Tau still have the Firesight Team, Orks have the Weirdboy and Necrons have two of the C'tan in resin.

Kind of - some guy ordered a Kairic Acolytes kit and rather than get the correct instructions for said kit, he got the instructions for the new Fuegan instead.

He didn't actually get the mini itself, which is why there's no sprue or mini pics.

Notice how this only ever happens with direct from.GW purchases, theyre doing this on purpose I tells ya

Given the rumours, there will be only Karandras left in resin anyway.

You can't see three more characters getting models, two of which are rumoured to come alongside Fuegan or shortly after?

They are always direct orders as those orders are dispatched from the same one that stores models before distribution to stores.  So this model will not be at any other stores GW or independent to be shipped from.  The only place it can be accidentally slip into is a direct order.  It's a simple mistake for something to end up in the wrong location and be shipped as a result.  It's just most of the time it will be an unremarkable model and people simply contact GW to get the correct model sent out.

As to the model itself it's a beaut.  As others have said GW have really nailed this Eldar refresh.  It's getting increasingly hard to resist despite not needing another army.

Someone put the Instruction Manual for this guy inside a box of Kairic Acolytes tho.

Not only the wrong instructions, but for the wrong faction and in the wrong game.

This was a little more than a simple picking up of the wrong box.

Someone was talking about his teal colorscheme ( and even though I know some people are sick of it, I love teal colorschemes.) so had to give it a go

I think a recurring problem with GWs bright red colorschemes is that they dont contrast very well, making things blander as they are.. I think contrasting the scale decoration in the armor almost is a must as well.

Ofcourse I got a little lost and ended up here ( wich does point out that he might be a little lightweight for peoples expectation of a phoenix lord, but I love this simple thing if I am allowed to say so myself ) :

Blood Angels just got 5 Characters (Sanguinor, Lemartes, Astorath, Captain and Sanguinary Priest) and they are only a sub-faction army. I don't know what is coming for Eldar (beyond Valrak's rumours) but I don't think we will necessarily get the Characters hard capped at 3.

I am legit curious/fascinated how this would happen to a small number or even one box and not an entire run of them

Obviously no one is doing it on purpise, unless they have literal nurglings in the warehouse

Is that really toughness 3 on his datasheet? I know that’s the same for most eldar but it seems a bit weak.

All the Phoenix Lords have gone down to T3 in this edition. The 2+/4++ helps to mitigate this to some extent but they are a bit vulnerable to precision weapons.  It seems to be a conscious design decision in 10th that most Characters are the same toughness as the units that they lead.

Well, Valrak did start talking about Yriel and the Corsairs recently, but I don't know if that fits within this upcoming release or is something for the future.

can't imagine, what do you have to paint / is in the way?

To avoid giving myself some kind of trauma I will keep it brief, but I have a great deal to catch up with my Ulthwé Aeldari, some Imperial Knight models, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Orks, Kroot, some other smaller collections from the Imperium Magazine, plus projects for Kill Team, Necromunda and Warcry and I want to push out a Heresy Mechanicum army to dip my toe in commission work. There's other stuff as well, but that's most of it. I really need to adopt speed painting techniques into my skillset to complete this in my lifetime. :teehee:

Waves of that size are usually 2 releases each (even BA were) so that makes it 4/8.

Stormcast and Skaven were both 1 week each for 12+ kits. New Eldar wave looking to be half that size. BA was 1 week for all the standalone kits - Combat Patrol released later yes, but that was alongside all the Legions Imperialis stuff, so it didn't "take up" a weekly slot on it's own.

Even if they did spin it out to four weeks, that's still only half the release dates possible which still goes against your original statement of "more or less all 40k for 2 months".

Both Guard and Eldar in Jan/Feb is plausible. Accept it!

Holding back a phoenix lord or two to release on their own as a 'you're not getting anything else this year so you can have this' morsel doesn't seem that unlikely to me.

That's probably Karandras fate...and if they make a shining spears phoenix lord since warp spiders are getting one.

There's been a Phoenix Lord for Shining Spears since 7th at least. Drastanta.

EDIT: I know Gav Thorpe thinks of the Phoenix Lords as only being the Asurya, whose backstory he laid out personally. But in this case, I personally don't give a gak about his opinion, in that regard. Drastanta is a cool addition to the legendary corpus of the Phoenix Lords, a late-comer in universe and out.
