Evil Eye
I've been messing about with Google's ImageFX AI generator and have discovered it's VERY good at making miniatures... Anyone else had a go with this? Magos Valkamar, TheArtilleryman, skylerboodie and 9 others 8 2 2 Back to top

Domhnall
scarily accurate renderings of miniatures! Could be very handy for testing out colour schemes with the right prompts. Evil Eye, Tymell and Xanthous 2 1 Back to top
Brother Tyler
This opens up a real risk for creating false rumors. Ideally, images created in this way will have some sort of watermark to (hopefully) make it clear that they are AI-generated and are not real models. I can see all kinds of craziness spreading across the Internet as a result of bad actors and misunderstandings. sairence, firestorm40k, Dalmyth and 12 others 1 14 Back to top
Trokair
I am suprised how well it did the faces. That Nurgle Word Bearer looks like someone just did a conversion. Edited October 30 by Trokair

To be absolutely clear, I had just intended this to be a thread to have fun with techno-nonsense and make cool stuff, nothing more. (I will say, I kinda wanna make that gretchin into an actual miniature, he looks pretty gnarly!)

ThePenitentOne
Yep. Now wait until the AI generates not the image, but the .STL necessary to print it.... And then there are no more game companies. Or model designers. Not to be a buzzkill or anything. Dalmyth and Domhnall 2 Back to top

Clean the shape, pose, scan for voids. The technology already exists and just needs a hand to guide it right now. Those 2 were the absolute standout ones to me, too. I've been using Windows 11 Copilot, which really just outsources to another actual AI art program, DallE. It always defaults to something Space Marine. An Adeptus Sororitas to it is just a female Space Marine. A Techpriest is a Techmarine. These are really quite good for brainstorming. I do like how it's a Word Bearer Plague Marine rather than just Death Guard. Dangit, now I'm thinking about it, too. It depends on how much free 3d model data is available, and while I don't really know, most of the time those with public access are paid for or at least account restricted data downloads.. in other words, any AI that could do this now likely breaches several boundaries. Text, 2d images and even 2d video have an extremely large "free" pool to take from hence why the AI creations for those can get so advanced so fast. It ignores ofcourse wether its truelly free, but thats another topic. But I think the pool of freely accessible 2d data far exceeds the total amount of 3d data in existence, even when including things AI shouldn't be able to learn from. To explain better what I mean, what has the larger variabel pool, and how exponentially larger is it : 3d primaris CAD files, or people, including GW, who made pictures of their assembled, painted models based on those cad files. Well, I didn't say the AI was going to be doing it without breaching any boundaries. You are correct that there is a lot of 2D data to work from, which is why those pictures above are 2D images, not 3D models. There is a big difference between drawing a single view of something and drawing the entire thing in 360 degrees. Hence the reason for starting from a 3D object. People have been converting 3D models from GW PC games into printable STLs for years already. The activities people do to convert those files are the ones an AI would step in and do. I assume the "respectful disagreement" on my post above is just because my dear friend Sven is a good and honest man who doesn't know the seedier underbelly of the printing world. The other alternative is that an AI takes 3rd party proxy/scan STLs and puts them together into a model based on instructions. Either way, I do think AI-generated printable models are going to be here sooner rather than later. Rhavien 1 Back to top

Re: AI genned STLs, it's worth noting that whilst AI genned 3D models ARE a thing, they're currently at the level of early Craiyon. Definitely not capable of making useable models for wargaming...yet. I reckon we'll have a way to go before that becomes a thing, but hey, you never know! Antarius
Once you know it is AI, you can pick up on some details that look off and really couldn’t be anything but AI, but if you hadn’t told me and/or I was not actively looking for clues that it was AI generated, I don’t think I would ever have noticed. Pretty scary, actually! LameBeard, Domhnall and ZeroWolf 3 Back to top
