Welcome to part one of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Codex Supplement, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Codex Supplement: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Codex: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Death Company Dreadnought?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • Are you keeping it within range of a Chaplain?
  • What delivery options are you using?
  • What deployment options are you using?
  • What weapon choice are you selecting?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

Only used it once, brutalis proxy, it was ok.  Re-roll hits was nice but 6+++ is a waste of dice rolling time, even though this should be the best unit for it in our codex.  Surge rule will only work once with a canny opponent.  Don't think it is worth the extra points. Doubt I'll try it again.

  • 2 weeks later...

Missed the photo op, not quite finished yet.

Have only used mine one and Angaron cut it in half before it moved.

Have high hopes for it other wise as I've seen the Brutalis wreck a great unclean one in a charge.

This is an interesting one. 20ppm more than a regular Brutalis which is a fair price for the 6+++. The rest of the abilities are more of a side-grade.

I wouldn't call rerolling hits a side grade. 1/3 of their attacks would miss without it.

But I feel driven by fury is a straight downgrade to brutalis charge.

If they would just drop the part with moving to the closest enemy...

Rerolling Hits is good but because it is part of Black Rage, it comes bundled with OC0 unless a Chaplain is nearby. Granted Objective Camping is not the best use of a Brutalis but after charging a unit on an Objective and wiping them out, it is nice to be able to claim said Objective. That is why I regard Black Rage as a sidegrade rather than a straight upgrade. Granted if you are using your Dread as a line-breaker then it is probably worth the trade-off.

Actually I forgot about the OC0... As I'm used to running DC with some kind of chaplain my mind ignored this part :)

what a wild journey DC have endured. Once immune to moral, to very low MW and now OC0 without a babysitter  true madness.
