Fantastic. I am more than a little bit confused why there is a Warhammer World exclusive version of the same model with a minor posing tweak (and slightly miffed because I much prefer that pose), which seems silly, but it's nice to see Iron Warriors finally get a Warsmith.

I'd note the article says that the SW preview last week paved the way for 'a short series of new miniature reveals from the Age of Darkness', and this article says we're getting another dose of proper heresy next week, so hopefully there's a couple more Praetors/Consuls to come before they wind down for Christmas. Great to see.

Its funny, when custom consuls were being discussed last week I was thinking 'didn't IW have a custom praetor?'. Glad to see it happened.

Lovely mini and I am almost certain that Hammer is getting stolen en-masse.

Also, why does the skullcap seem both so funny and so IW at the same time?

Cap reminds me of the Brotherhood from Fallout.

And in regards to the hammer: It would look appropriate for a Primarch. So this fella must obviously compensate for something...

My baseless guess is they'd sculpted two poses, liked them both just as much and just decided to make one a WHW exclusive to get it out there.

Yes,I readed it. But still makes little sense to me...too similar. And the WHW exclusive a bit simple for an exclusive miniature, I must say.

If it was a completely different unit type or a completely different loadout, people would complain about not being able to get a core part of their list. At least this way it's just a cosmetic difference and you can get a completely functional alternative by normal means. Arguably ALL limited/exclusive models should be like this.

The bare head looks a bit like a dashing RAF ace.

"Bally Jerry, chucked a warspear, right in the how's-your-father..."
Very glad I'm not the only person who saw that and thought "Bandits, 5 o'clock high! Break, break break!"

Honestly though, it is an EPIC miniature. One which I will inevitably buy and turn into an Ultramarine. Head swap, file off the IV... job's a good'un! In fact, I think he'd make an excellent Fennias Maxim!

That seems likely to me. I'd guess these are digitally-sculpted as dollies, then some samples posed and printed before a decision is made. I'd imagine most figures go through a similar process.

Whatever the case, releasing an alternative pose as a WHW exclusive seems a good approach to me. It's a nice way to drive footfall to HQ without making a particular option needlessly difficult to get. That's particularly annoying when the exclusive (e.g. Terminator sorceror) is the only example available.

It also helps to avoid problems associated with duplicate stock-keeping units (SKUs); which I suspect is a factor in why one of the two very similar Imperial Fists Terminator characters was removed from sale.

The models themselves are lovely; nice details, and I don't mind the super-sized gravity hammer. That sort of mass and exaggeration seems right up the alley of the IVth Legion. Fittingly, there's a lot of overlap in design language between these Warsmiths, the Iron Circle and Perturabo himself – note the loincloths and shapes of the dangly bits (probably not a technical term). They're also an unusual example of a model where I like the helmet and bare head options equally;

The arming caps are a fab touch – I included something similar on my Iron Warriors project way back :)

The PDF rules update and new options are interesting. Likely just a result of 'cool models first, rules second', but in concert with the fact that it's the Iron Warriors are getting an exclusive does make me wonder if there's some truth in the rumoured Iron Warriors vs Salamanders boxed set. Whether that's a mid-edition splash release with some minor rules updates or a new edition launch box, who can say?

Both look great. For the static pose one, what's the 'lump' behind the gun? There's the combi weapon with hose attached and a random chunk back there? Any ideas as my eyes can't figure out what it is.

It looks like he has some mechadendrites reloading/maintaining his gun
