sitnam
Since the MoTY poll was posted on Warcom, it got me thinking about my own hobby this year and what I was proudest of. Now I'd like to propose a question to all Fraters: what is your Model of the Year, and why? Disregarding my AoS output this year (the Seraphon and FEC remakes ruined my 40k plans), even my 40k work is hard to pinpoint. I finished my Necrons in Call to Arms, expanded my Kroot and even got their lore written down, finished more 40k beastmen, and I even painted a one-off space marine I was pretty proud of. But of everything I've done, I'd say my proudest work has been my Tzeentch Grenadiers Spoiler What I'm proud of isn't even the paint work (I think my Necron, Kroot and AoS projects are better painted) or the conversion work, but its because these guys were the completion of a vision. I always loved the idea of the Traitor Guard/Militarum Hereticus/Lost and the Damned/Renegades and Heretics/whatever GW calls them in the future. The Vraks books were a huge part of my 40k discovery. Cultists are cool, but something about actual (semi) disciplined soldiers fighting for the Dark Gods spikes my interest. I always wanted something to represent some elite Tzeentch soldiers, but without the focus on melee or spikes the Blooded have. Men tasked with securing arcane lore or guarding occult rituals for their masters. So, what's your personal Model of the year? Dr_Ruminahui
You have reason to be proud of those sitnam, for the reasons that you give - I think you did a really good job of depicting a professional mortal chaos force without digging into some of the chaos tropes (spikes, etc) that don't apply as well to Tzeentch as they might other forces. My Model of the year is my defiler. Nothing really special here painting wise - it looks good on the model, but I didn't push any boardaries or try anything new in that respect. Rather, its the conversion work that I most proud of - it is both the largest and the most ambitious kitbash I have ever done, and I feel it turned out about as well as I could have ever hoped. Plus, it was a lot of fun to share the process in the WIP forum and get others members' feedback and suggestions. Karhedron
The old metal Avatar was my favourite mini back in 2nd edition and I wanted to paint the new one to try and match the imaginary vision I had of its predecessor. Hopefully 2025 will be the year he sees battle. Bouargh
I had this year a rqther diversified production with a lot of different stuff; mostly battle top ready, plus scenery. Really nothing is that remarkable, except perhaps my Freeblade. It is the biggest 40k model I ever painted, if one exclude land raiders and a storm eagle. Probably the cleanest one once considering panel lining and decals. An animal I am proud to put on the table as a center piece. It generally does not survive long, but at least the rest of my army stays relatively safe for a round or two... sitnam
@Dr_Ruminahui I had a feeling you'd post the defiler, I remember you working on it throughout the year. It really did come out awesome @Karhedron I think it's because of that classic goblin green base, but at first I thought you were saying that you repainted the 2nd edition Avatar and I was blown away how well the old sculpt held up. Still a very good job @Bouargh I have my own Dreadblade ready to paint, and it is very intimidating to handle something like that. Getting own done has to feel great Dr_Ruminahui and Karhedron 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384768-your-model-of-the-year-2024-edition/#findComment-6079821 Share on other sites
Sir Clausel
For me its definitely m Helbrecht. Hapoy with the paintjob especially the sword. The reposing and getting rid of the servitors yet still him having the right gear. And the base symbolize my friend's armies. Ahzek451
Gonna go with my translocation shroud lord. It was fun but I am hesitant about any idea of doing another. Unfortunately the "why" for this chosen model isnt very exciting as its pretty much the only thing i got done haha. But I'm super happy how it turned out. Proud of the time I did manage to scrape together to get the digital squares the way I wanted. Glacial pace year for me. Domhnall
My model of the year is my Abaddon the Despoiler Statue from Forge world. It's been a 23 year work in progress, but I finally got it finished this year, so it has to be this one. sitnam, Grotsmasha, Rusted Boltgun and 11 others 6 8 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384768-your-model-of-the-year-2024-edition/#findComment-6079968 Share on other sites

sitnam
I'm blown away by everyone's work, I think your all right to be proud. @Dr. Clock The Inquisitors face is very well done, and that's a nice clean white @Domhnall I forgot that existed! Really awesome to see him done, and the eye of Horus is great. @Grotsmasha I really like the pattern on his power claw, and just the beaten look to his armor in general. @Heraclite & @Dr. Clock: just completing models is big in my wind, and you guys both did great. Heraclites is hard to believe your a new painter, and that Energy cloak on the Overlord was worth the time and effort Heraclite, Domhnall, Grotsmasha and 3 others 2 1 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384768-your-model-of-the-year-2024-edition/#findComment-6080057 Share on other sites

phandaal
Awesome minis here! For me it has to be this guy: Spoiler As soon as GW announced him, I knew I had to add an honest-to-goodness Rules Lawyer to my Votann army! Original plan was to convert him, but it turns out AoS dwarves are a different scale than Votann so it ended up just being some small adjustments to the model to make it a little less Steampunk. The rest is just paint and decals. He worked out so well, and the fact that he is screaming at the enemy (or possibly his allies) using what look like industrial production manuals makes this guy my favorite mini of the year. Chaplain Raeven
Lovely thread and equally lovely models! I had to choose between my latest (Warhammer World) HQ Land Raider and Castigator, simply because they got painted after YEARS of collecting dust. I'm just happy they're finally painted, and to a standard I can be proud of. Especially that Knight, since the release of the new kit stung quite a bit. I had to wrestle with damn resin because of my impatience, and then did nothing with it for way too long. Still got to add some more freehand on the empty plates when inspiration hits and finish the base, waiting for those new juicy Kriegers. firestorm40k
This is a great thread, I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's work being showcased! Of the stuff I've painted this year, I think I'm most pleased with the new Space Marine Scouts It's a really great revamp for these models, the set is actually really good value, as you can get two 5-man squads, as well as the Kill Team (I magnetised the Scout with the grapnel launcher so I can use him on both regular 40k and Kill Team). They were enjoyable to paint as well - to me, the sign of a nicely designed kit Edited December 11 by firestorm40k Tallarn Commander, Grotsmasha, phandaal and 9 others 5 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384768-your-model-of-the-year-2024-edition/#findComment-6080425 Share on other sites
OpossumStrong
It was a good year in terms of painting for me, not the best but good enough. Around 80-100 models, 1600 points of tyranids (a new army) lots of cool models, I did expend 1st and 4th company for ultramarines, started 3rd company mostly as a KT,and a squad of the new scouts, couple hq for the necrons, death guard DP and some line infantry with plague caster(the new KT box), two knights, the funny tall model for ad mech, and custodians. Of all of those models I did pick probably the simplest one as my favourite of the year, but I really like it. sitnam
@sbarnby71 If I wasn't aware of the new Stormcast, I would think this conversion was an official model. Great job @Tallarn Commander Now that's a Daemon Engine! I love the official engines, but this is unique because it goes away from looking like a biomechanical beast to something truly n bizarre @phandaal I think sometimes a simple paint job can sell an idea where a conversion cant. The palette used here makes it easy to see this alongside some Votaan, imo @Chaplain Raevenen The Cerastus chassis is so imposing, its pretty great to see one fully painted. Is the Diorama base a tie in to a IG army? @firestorm40k The new scouts look great! I quite like the grey. Are these guys supposed to be Relictors, or a custom chapter? @OpossumStrong Simple isn't bad by any means. That's a nicw, crisp paint job. I know Custodes are supposedly easy to paint, but I think doing all that gold without making it look garish is a hard task OpossumStrong, phandaal, sbarnby71 and 1 other 2 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384768-your-model-of-the-year-2024-edition/#findComment-6080621 Share on other sites
