Lysimachus
Hello all, Some of you may remember the Knives in the Void Kill-Team Challenge that we had a few years back. It was originally my plan to run the Challenge on an annual basis (or possibly even 6-monthly), but unfortunately real life gets in the way and now 3 years have passed! However, we had really good support for the event last time around, so I thought we might give it another go in 2025? So, this is kind of a pre-pre-sign up gathering interest thread, just to see if anyone would be interested in doing it again? (or for the first time, all are welcome!) I was thinking to maybe give people a month or two to plan, figure out what teams they wanted to do, get bitz together, etc, etc, and then have 3 months for the actual Challenge? (So maybe Jan/Feb for prep/build, and March-May for the main painting bit?) Would anyone be up for that? Axineton
Ooh I’d be up for this. Bought the Brutal & Kunning box today so this is perfect timing I feel. Trokair
Ah, fond memories. Last time round I did a little experimental conversion work for an idea I had toyed with for a few years but never taken anywhere. Lord of the Rings Easterling as Imperial Guard. It worked out okish, and led me into doing an entire army over the last few years. Still need to paint a bunch for that, but I’ll get there. So yes would happily take part again. Though this time I have no idea to hand yet. Xin Ceithan
Nice! So there is already something awesome to look forward to in 2025! I hope we’ll set up the theme early on so I ight be able to start painting once the event starts and not spent the first weeks coming up with ideas again Mazer Rackham, Lysimachus and gaurdian31 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384900-knives-in-the-void-2025/#findComment-6082961 Share on other sites

I'm not sure whether you'd say the latest box (Brutal and Cunning, I think?) is themed in quite the same way? I suppose Knives in the (Dark/Shadows/Dirt/something else) could be a theme for this time around? Anyone got any ideas? *Not that anyone was obliged to use that theme, not everyone went with starship bases, etc. Xin Ceithan, Mazer Rackham and gaurdian31 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384900-knives-in-the-void-2025/#findComment-6083040 Share on other sites

Indy Techwisp
Current KT is on Volkus still and looks to be staying there until Season 1 ends at least, so it should probably be more generically "Volkus" based rather than specifically Ratling vs Ork based, right? Maybe "Shadow of the Gun"? Volkus' defining feature is the City-Sized Anti-Everything Double-Barrel Gun, so that should probably be represented in some way. Brother Tyler
Will participants be limited to teams with official rules under the current edition (Kill Team 2024)? Or will some flexibility be allowed so that members can create a wider variety of kill teams, perhaps using older editions' rules, or even homegrown rules? Asking for a friend. gaurdian31 and Lysimachus 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384900-knives-in-the-void-2025/#findComment-6083643 Share on other sites
Lysimachus
I was thinking that it should at minimum be a legal team* from one of the 36 teams currently available on WH Community? I would have thought there is enough variety within those teams to cover most possibilities, especially as I'm pretty easy going about counts-as? E.g. Any of the various divergent Chapters could be done as counts-as Angels of Death, Scouts, or Phobos? That said, I'm not inclined to limit/exclude anyone who prefers older versions of the rules, so I'd be quite happy if someone said they wanted to build a minimum playable team for a KT from one of the older editions. Edit: I also love a good homegrown ruleset... hmm... maybe to simplify I should just say that it must be at least a minimum sized squad for painting; 6 Space Marines, 10 Imperial Guard, etc, etc? *i.e. a minimum number of models required to play a game, not a full roster (unless the person wanted to complete the full roster of available options?) Lysimachus
Oh and for the title, I'm thinking 'Knives in the Shadows' as a more generic, KT-related name for the whole Challenge that we can use on any year... ...but with the current setting, maybe add a subtitle to reference Volkus and the Massif Ballistus? Possibly 'The Big Guns Never Tire'...? gaurdian31, Trokair and W.A.Rorie 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384900-knives-in-the-void-2025/#findComment-6083679 Share on other sites

grailkeeper
I'm interested. Where can I find out which teams are legal? The current range of teams for the current edition of Kill Team can be found at the Warhammer Community Kill Team downloads page (click on "Team Rules" to see the various teams). Rules for teams in previous editions can be found in the rulebooks that @Lysimachus listed in the announcement topic; and a variety of homegrown faction rules can be found online, including (but not limited to) a few that have been posted in our Kill Team Downloads category. grailkeeper
Thanks. I might kit bash inquisitorial agents or star stridere with random stuff I have. Part of me wants to model great crusade era luna wolves. Would legionnaires be appropriate for this? I wouldn't have the pysker or mutant for lore reasons. Are they still a viable kill team without those guys? Actually I can take the pysker by saying they're pre-nikea. Actually I can take the pysker by saying they're pre-nikea. Legionnaires could certainly work. And like you say, the various abilities could count-as something similar? If you're not sure about what options you want to build, Goonhammer has some excellent reviews of the various teams/Operatives? I think Legionnaires are blessed with quite a few good options, so there is quite a bit of variety and yet still build a competitive team!
