Nagashsnee
Whoever did the trailer is a genius. He knew marketing, gw and total war needed a SPAAAACE MARINEEEEs trailer. But knew enough lore to know marines and total war dont go together. Every big shot has the actual Imperium military in the backround. Space? 1 strike cruiser and several navy ships. Armor assault? Zoom in marine armor zoom out Imperial guard tanks. Imperial Guard crammed in the backround by the hundrends. The focus is always on the marines as they will be the biggest customer base, but the makers knew their stuff and made it in a way that makes sense. Even when he ork superheavy comes into the picture the Marines immidiatly call a orbital strike. It not only looks cool but solves the in trailer problem in a smart way. This is as close to in universe propaganda vids as we are likely to get. This is marine focus done well and smartly. Clearly showing that it is not Ultra focussed and you make your own chapter in the article and trailer is also brilliant. GW could learn allot from these people. I hope they do it in gameplay too, where you liberate areas as marine and thave the PDF take them over and gather/build for you. Rather then have each zone be direct marine control/garrison. This trailer gives me high hopes. firestorm40k
The fact you can customise your army means I'll certainly be getting this - and I guarantee I'll be spending more time recreating my Ashen Sentinels Space Marine Chapter than actually using them in games - a digital reflection of my actual hobby time Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384965-total-war-warhammer-40000/page/12/#findComment-6146696 Share on other sites
Marshal Reinhard
Im just relieved it isn't horus heresy but 40k proper. Mogger351
I won't lie, I'm a touch nervous due to the console proposition. Theres a lack of control/nuance involved in console rts games that doesn't fit with total war games. Curious how they'll do it or if the game will be forced to accommodate the controller. Ayatollah_of_Rock_n_Rolla
I see they've chosen the easy route. Looks like a bit upscaled Dawn of War with a one planet-one battle campaign, with no attempt at rationalizing the setting. OK, I guess. I'll wait for more ingame footage. But I will say - if this is what a city fight looks like, than it's disappointing at least in this aspect. On the other hand customization is great news, IF it applies to the campaign. Subtleknife
I'm not overly optimistic if I'm honest. CA haven't produced the best games as of late. A lot of them are dumbed down with arcade like gameplay, and thinned down strategy. The world map too, has only got worse the longer the franchise has gone on in terms of depth of gameplay, and it wasnt like it was exactly deep to begin with. On top of that, they are releasing on console, which will certainly mean aspects of the game will need to be dumbed down further (most likely). I fear this has been done for monetary, rather than gameplay reasons. If I was to pick a studio to do this, I don't think it would be CA. I hope that I am very wrong though. TW:W1 did the same and added Bretonnia as a launch DLC didn't they? And I think 2 did the same with Tomb Kings. Hopefully similar happens here and we can avoid people comparing this to the current state of TW:W3, which has had a decade to flesh itself out... Chaos Warriors was the launch DLC for TW:WH1 & Norsca was the launch DLC for TW:WH2 (while also weirdly being the last paid dlc for TW:WH1). Ogre Kingdoms was the launch DLC for TW:WH3. Bretonnia came quite late in TW:WH1's cycle but was free DLC. Tomb Kings were the first paid DLC for TW:WH2. Not that it changes anything you're saying. They've done an extra faction as launch DLC (usually free with pre-orders) for all the TW:WH titles so far so it wouldn't be a surprise if they do the same again.
