Here's where I'm at with my Hierotek Circle: metallics are done (apart from a light drybrush on the gold to give a bit of highlighting to those parts), next it's the glowy bits

Love the purples on both teams @drakheart & @firestorm40k. Also lovely to see both Sisters of Silence and Necrons!

My own team is done, the 55th Dal'lyth Rifles Cadre, 1st Assault Team.

I also put some lore and extra pics  in my HoH thread.

I will be soon finished with the March 2025 Challenge and found this one by chance today. So lets do it:

I, Deus Ex Machina, vow to complete one Kill-Team of the Iron Hands (from the Kill-Team Starter set), to be fully painted and based by the 31st May 2025, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May Ferrus Manus, he is alive and well despite heretical propaganda claiming the opposite, curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail!

Well - didn't get as far as hoped on Scorps in last couple of weeks, but should have the first 5 done this week.

Thought I'd take a moment to demonstrate my approach to effectively underpainted black... which is Grey Seer > Incubi Darkness > Vallejo Azul Intenso > game colour verdigris:

large.IMG_9463(2).jpeg.1768ff1aa1b88fd10

Followed by Basilicanum Grey contrast:

large.IMG_9464.jpeg.500c6642abea44ad1bb4

From here I just start adding Grey Seer to define whatever is going to become yellow, and re-establish the gems.

Pretty confident I''ll make the deadline still, though hobby has slowed down a little due to nagging tendonitis and just overall this being my busiest time of year professionally.

Anyway - first 5 of the Shrine of Poison Tears on the way!

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

I have not forgotten my vow to paint up a team of Krieg vets, but I am completely and utterly stumped on a colour scheme for the squad. I've got some yellows and browns picked out that might look alright, or I might go with a more box-art inspired blue or grey. The good news is that procrastinating on this has helped me be very productive with other painting projects, but I have to figure out some colours that I'm excited about soon. I wrote the fluff ages ago lmao.

Dartorian A. (9103025M41). 'A Song of Strife and Longing'. From Dartorian A Ed. Translations and Transmogrifications, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Like the Eldar. Heretical text.

Gone, she wept, forgetting still

The scorpion who slept until

The tears of Eldanesh did come

Then suppered from forbidden well

Fair travelers on dimlight paths

Fair warning as you here may pass

Be not afraid of she who sleeps

Yet dreaming as her tears amass

Now flow out 'cross the cheeks of terror

Spit venom in the eye of fate

Strike hard the hand of he who whispers

And tear the hinges from the gate

Do not forget the world's last ending

Do not regret your doom indeed

We shall be wrested from this coil

Yet not before this poison feed

Last minute choice to make the gems green. Took a minute, but overall happy with where these are landing.

Back to Van D's Devils tho this week.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Test model complete. Blue or Grey? Blue-grey Space Wolves colours!

Love the scorpions, @Dr. Clock.  And that blue-grey looks great on the kriegsman, @Norman Paperman - definitely channeling WWI French.

I'm now halfway done my goats, having completed 6 out of the 12 - provided I can do a goat a week, I should manage to finish in time.

Anyway, here are the first 3 pairs.

Really nice goats @Dr_Ruminahui, I really struggled with mine (they still aren't finished) and I might have even misplaced an important head! I especially like the green tinged blades of the three-armed goat.

And a very smart Kriegsman @Norman Paperman, my first KT models and I got scared at how small and detailed they were so back in the box they went!

Very striking Scorpions @Dr. Clock, the yellow helmets are very clean and the gems pop out nicely from the armour.

Finally managed to get around to painting up a few bits for my pledge. The Kaa'Daa Seekers are nearing completion. One more to build and paint! The full story will be added to my thread, along with any additional work for them over the next couple of weeks

For fluff, I wrote two vignettes. One for a rifleman and one for my fanatic. I've created a thread in the fanfiction forum as they're too long to post here, but here's a sample:

"The Commissar flipped open the file folder in front of him, Everett knew it was his records, and began flipping through the pages. He settled on a bulk of papers near the bottom and began reading. This was all for show of course, the Commissar would know exactly what had happened on Septhremis Nova, though the cat would have been new. At the bottom of the page Everett could see the words “wiped out”. Thump thump. Thump thump. “Suits incoming!” The Tau bombardment had killed his cat.  As the Commissar read, Everett’s heart returned to normal. Thump, thump, thump. Thunderhawk.  Sergeant MacKenzie remained motionless. He was a veteran and superior to Everett, but he hadn’t been at Septhremis. Everett didn’t want to be in a regimental reconstitution for a third time."

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to complete the whole team in time. I had to choose between this and the March! For March and as I failed the March last year I had to redeem myself there.

I managed to finish four guys (left hand guy doesn’t count as he was an original concept model):

What I have is useable for the rules in the Kill Team Starter Box, but unfortunately isn’t enough for a full team in the main game.

However, my background fluff is as follows:

The Winged Lancers chapter have a proud lineage as a Raven Guard successor. Their specific founding is unknown, but records of their early engagements puts it somewhere between the third and eighth foundings.

(The original livery of the Winged Lancers Chapter)

When the Great Rift tore the galaxy asunder, their once lush homeworld of Drathor was overwhelmed by an incursion of the dread forces of Nurgle. Gibbering daemons consumed the population and disgusting plagues ravaged the planet’s natural resources. Despite fierce fighting, in which over half the chapter gave their lives, the planet was lost and Chapter Master Emmanuel Shirac ordered the exterminatus. Drathor was scorched clean from orbit and their beautiful world was reduced to a desert wasteland.

Following the destruction of their world, the chapters colours were forever changed from their rich white, purple and gold livery to the colour of desert sand, in mourning for their lost home.

(Winged Lancers chapter colours, post Great Rift)

When Roboute Guilliman’s Indomitus crusade reached Drathor, they offered primaris reinforcements to the Winged Lancers. At first, Shirac rejected them, seeing them initially as a mutation of the Emperor’s creation, his views made all the more fervent by the legacy of his chapter as sons of Corax.

Eventually, however, Shirac had no choice but to relent, as his wounded forces were so brutally depleted in the recent war for Drathor. However, he refused to allow the new marines to integrate with his Firstborn, and instead assigned them to the most dangerous of missions possible in the far flung reaches of the galaxy. Many of the reinforcements were grouped into Kill Teams, such as this one.

Kill Team Francois is just such a team. Captain Francois commands the third company of the Winged Lancers, a company designated as such to replace the Firstborn third company that was wiped out to a man in the initial Nurgle attacks. Determined to prove the worth of his men, he personally joins as many Kill Team operations as he can, hand-picking his most trusted warriors.

Francois’ company makes extensive use of camouflage, leaving only the chapter badge visible on one pauldron. This aligns closely with their stealth tactics, striking from the shadows like Knives in the Dark to decapitate the head of an enemy force or sabotage key infrastructure.

This event is going on till the 31st of May, so you do still have some time left to do the last model or two.

I started in February so I have gone over my two months time frame… I will still try and get them done but I will officially have taken too long …

Since it's now the first day of the last month, I figured I'd do an update.

I have not gotten nearly as much done as I would've liked, so at this point I am sure I will not finish my vow in time. I think my subconcious realized that earlier and went "might as well not hurry."

There's still some blacklining on the armor, and all the highlighting to do. And that's just the body assemblies, there's still the arms with weapons to do, and the backpacks and heads.

But I'm not stopping, I'll continue until the competition has ended, and then beyond that until I've fully finished the squad, some time over the summer.

@TheArtilleryman I've got you down as starting painting about a week early on Feb 22nd, so 3 months gives you until May 22nd?

3 months??? I thought it was two …

Veteran Guardsmen coming along!

Some of these old metal sculpts look like they've been beaten with the ugly stick, but they're fun to work on!

Need to dig in and do some fluff, which will help me settle on bases.

Starting to paint my squad after getting a test model done ages ago. I'd have done this a lot sooner but had some big life things get in the way.

They look a bit crap frankly. I'm a bit bummed out. I won't post pics.
