He looks cool. Curious to what his rules are. DG already have 8 power armored characters that can join plague marines.

"We’ve met the Lords of Virulence and Contagion, and the Lords of Poxes now swell the ranks. These are equipped with a miasmic turbine, a device of rusted blades and rattling engines which readily vomits contagion into the air.

These viruses are incubated within the lungs of the wearer themself, spores extracted and mixed with incubating fluids to create clouds of corrosive vapour that ignore the laws of nature to spread, seeking new victims to infect. This foetid fog also has the added benefit of occluding the Death Guards’ lumbering advance."

Grant cover(or other protection like -1 to hit). Probably extent contagion range.

This model is part of a series of HQ characters called Mantels of Corruption. After a quick skim through Lexicanum there seems to be 7 of them, so the most likely scenario is that GW is trying to give those their own unique models.

The remaining ones are: flux, parasitism, withering and another not yet named in the lore.

I can see Flux or Parasitism being a Sorcerer Lord when they do come out, possibly a DG specific Termie Sorc to replace the Generic one they have currently.

As for the unnamed one, they're probably saving it until a new unit arrives that it can be a part of.

Maybe some kind of "Lord of Pollutants" leading a DG Jump Pack unit that propelles itself by burning only the most pollutant filled fuel possible to spread diseases via atmospheric poisoning.

Are you suggesting "DG jump unit which propel themself with fart"?

Notable, perhaps, is that (from the beginning) the Mantles of Contagion, Virulence, and Poxes were called out as being commonly seen ones. (It's why DG players were expecting a Lord of Poxes, to round out the trio.)

IIRC, when the Lord of Virulence was released it was noted that it had been sculpted alongside the rest of the DG range, and then withheld for a later release. I'd not be shocked it this Lord of Poxes was in the same boat, and that now (going forward) they'll have to have someone revisit the Death Guard the next time they want to release something for them.

Props to the Heavy Metal Artist who painted this guy.  It is a beautiful paint job.  The shoulder pads actually look corroded rather than bronze.  And that sword (sorry I mean the Heavy Plague Weapon)... I am going to spend hours trying and failing to recreate that look!!!

However I am a little jealous that EC got a multi-kit Lord model and DG are receiving their 14th mono-pose character.  I worry this doesnt bode well for DG Chaos Lords and Terminator Sorcerers surviving in the new codex.

One thing I found interesting is the paint job. It's seems more muted in tone, with more subtle use of stippling and overall quite matt. Wonder if they took the "GW Death Guard look like children's toys!" criticisms to heart.

Termie Sorc should be OK for now, there's nothing it competes with and the Kit is still in circulation.

Lord on Foot tho, I didn't think DG actually got the Lord on Foot.

Either way, I'd say it's a 50/25/25 whether the Lord of Poxes replaces the generic Lord, you keep the Generic Lord as is or you keep the Generic Lord and their datasheet is updated to match the new Generic Lord.

CSM PA Lord has quite a good sculpt(no Nurgle elements though). GW may recommend DG customers to buy that model.

I wonder whether predators would survive. I can't remember when and why DG lost access to vindicators.

IIRC the Plagueburst Crawler is what fulls the Vindicator Role for DG.

A thought on the LoP...

How does he actually use the sword? It seems strapped to him by the blade, relatively tightly.

And like... his right hand is resting on the grip, but... why isn't that end dragging on the ground? (Due to physics.)

If I apply this much sound logic to half of 40k I wouldn't be in the hobby haha. There are hand pistols that can melt a tank but idiots run around with swords. Tanks are almost obsolete by today's standards but apperently make it 38,000 years into the future just fine. Almost no other planet has a similar pressure, temperature and atmosphere compared to earth but a lot of the humans in 40k are running around without full suits or helmets on almost every planet and are modeled as such.

Plus he's a Death Guard. With 5" movement he has like 3+ whole turns to get the sword out.

I really like this guy, honestly. Probably my favourite of the DG HQ models, actually; he has a great silhouette and he's not too overdesigned. I actually can't think of anything I'd really want to change about him if I got him, which is rare.

Well when he gets into combat he lets go of the hilt and just starts spinning in circles so the sword swings wildly and cleaves anyone too close.

Nice! Also, it's extra disturbing because the enemy never sees the sword move because it never leaves the pox fog. Enemies just charge into the smog bank, and you hear the snicker-chunk! of a heavy blade swinging, maybe see some flashes of metal on metal contact, and then ... the Lord strides out of the murk, unhurried and unharmed.

Daemonic straps that loosen at will, and partial mag locking. Also it looks cool, which is the only reason needed.
