Hey, so I am looking into another combat patrol to make things a little cheaper, and as for the intercessor squad that come with it, would i be able to combine them with the one i already have? And if so, would I need to make one of the Sgt's just a normal intercessor?

Yes.

Yes. Just build him like a regular intercessor. Personally I prefer to run them in squads of 5. Better to spread out and get more use from their sticky objectives. But a squad of 10 is a lot of bolter shots!

Mobility and flexibility seems to be more effective this edition than having one big blob, so I’d agree with @Helias_Tancred and say running them as two squads is probably better even if you’re going to get more. I don’t play templars so I don’t know if there are any other special rules that would change this but for other marine armies this definitely seems to be the case. More units = more ground you can cover. Also, you can get an extra lot of sergeant upgrades for free.

Hmmm, well, I'll have to decide how I'll do them once I get the combat patrol, thanks.

I'll probably end up putting them together then buying 1 or 2 more intercessor squads.

imo you may need one more intercessor box, and that is a maybe?

Again, my opinion based on how I tend to run my Black templars?

I built my Intercessors as squads of 10, but I give half them something to distinguish them from the other half of the squad—like a squad marker on their knee, so it’s easy to split them up and visually identify who belongs to which half of the squad. You can also pick up individual models and half-squads off eBay pretty reasonably as well, so you could (for example) make a sort of generic “sergeant” model to go with whichever 5 man team you want for a particular game.

Something else to consider, is that GW have in recent years been doing made-to-order issuances of the models from previous starter sets. (Battle for Macragge 2023, Dark Vengeance 2019, 3rd edition "old enemies" 2021) Should they bring back the 8th edition starter any time soon, it has, depending on if they issue it as Know No Fear or Dark Imperium, 1 or 2 Intercessor squads, albeit Easy to Build versions. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll probably see Assault on Black Reach this year, then maybe an 8th Starter in 2027. (BfM contained Tyranids, then so did the 10th starter in 2023, so I wonder if they'll do Orks in 11th and capitalise on that)

If you want more intercessors, then it may also be worth considering the Dark Angels Combat Patrol. You get 10 Intercessors, 5 Hellblasters, 3 Bladeguard and a Gravis Captain, albeit with a DA upgrade kit instead of a BT one. Depending on what you already have it may be worthwhile to avoid duplicates. For 10 man intercessor squads the Space Wolves and Deathwatch CBs could also be worthwhile purchases.
