Here's a tweet from warhammer official.

The wall of matryrs defense line, emplacements and bunker are coming to made to order soon as well as the imperial bastion again. I'm guessing the bastion was popular last time.

Nice to see the Imperial Bastion make a comeback. Not a fan of the WoM solely because of the mounds of corpses they used as base filler; the actual design of the fortifications are nice but they really could have just used sandbags.

I felt the same way, even back in the day. That's why I covered most of the skulls with texture mix/paint and it helps the look a lot. Kind of defeats the point of paying for the skulls in the first place though...

That looks much better! Shame I didn't think of this when they were regular retail and not an inflated-price MTO...

I really like that these are getting another MTO run, it makes me hopeful that they might keep the terrain in a cycling MTO rotation, I've got a few more of the Sector Imperialis Kits that I wanted but couldn't justify at the time.

Anyway, I might grab a second Wall of Martyrs kit and a second Bastion when this goes up.

Remember when terrain was fun? When it wasn’t L-shaped ruins with strange LOS and if-I-stand-exactly-here-you-can’t-assault-me interactions? I understand why they removed the terrain rules but wow were these fun on a board and more interesting to look at.

The comments section hints at the return of the plasma obliterator too. Time to build another gaming table!

CARD TERRAIN BUILDING ruins - Warhammer 40k 2nd Edition 1993 - Oldhammer OOP £23.00 - PicClick UK

Remember when there was nothing but L-shaped ruins and anything more adventurous you had to make yourself?

I get what you mean though, as much as I like the current ruined terrain I know that GW has made more varied terrain. Part of the problem seems to be that they never appear to keep terrain in stock for very long, it seems to be one of the biggest FOMO traps in all of 40k. I was lucky enough to buy the big Wall of Martyrs box and a Firestorm Redoubt when it came out, but that was almost like buying an entire boxed army all at once. It was a big project that I did finally paint up the whole lot and I'm really happy with it, but it doesn't break line of sight like a good ol' L-shaped ruin does.

I missed on on those huge basilicanum ruin sets, I should have invested heavily in those, it seemed there was a lot you could do with those. Was it called sector imperialis or something?

Yeah, 10th's complete lack of actual terrain rules and the utterly bizarre LoS rules are some of the many things that turned me off it. Still, as they aways say, crap rules are temporary, good models are forever. Though I have to be honest, between the very short print runs and high prices, GW terrain is just not worth it anymore IMO- and you can make really nice terrain for much cheaper yourself and have a blast doing it. Ah, GW's old How to Make Wargames Terrain, my beloved...

They hinted the plasma obliterator might be coming in a response to someone asking about it.

Ooh, the one piece of the Wall of Martyrs that I missed out on! Fingers crossed, it does come back eventually.

The bastion set was really cool. You could combine it with extra kits and make some really neat bunkers but the wall of martyrs... Oof. Hated that kit. The molded on corpses looked terrible. I really feel like the newer aegis defence line kit is much nicer version of essentially the same thing. Not that anyone will actually play on a board that has anything other than ruins these days.

The Aegis defence line was great. Just a nice set of pre-fab barricades that could be left fully modular or be worked into trenches/earthworks. Not overdetailed but still nicely designed, quick to paint and aesthetically pleasing. I won't lie, the whole Planetstrike expansion was really cool; I have my old WD for the release of it somewhere.

I built this Junk House for my Rust Bots on New Mars a few weeks ago. Far cheaper than Gee-Dubbs stuff and it comes even with a large roof which enables wargaming on multiple height levels. Suitable for small 30K/40K battles or skirmish games:

The modern 40K terrain yanks you ruthlessly out of the experience just by looking at it. You don´t see this artificial nonsense in 40K video games nor read about it in novels:

Imagine this:

The Vengeful Spirit ignited with it´s orbital bombardment the enriched gaseous atmosphere of Isstvan III. All that was left on the surface were structures obliterated into suspicious L-shaped ruins.

Maloghurst: "That´s a bad omen, Sire. I guess we will take the L on Terra."

Horus Lupercal: "Looks like it. What´s for dinner, Mal?"
