Glad  you were able to steal (from another model) a flight stand for your drake.

Games workshop sells the stand and base together for $ 14 Canadian (in Canada, obviously) - so that's an option.  From my very quick search of cake topping pillars, they are a range of prices, for various quantiles and sizes.

That said, if its for a nightscythe, I think a cooler approach would be to get some copper or plastic tubbing and paint it as the teleportation beam, with a warrior or the like stepping out of it on the base.  But I guess this is kind of getting off topic for this thread.

I forgot GW sells them too.  I ended up gluing the plastic X into the round ball socket.  At least it should be stable now.  I am not a fan of these new flight stands for everything.  Especially with my Sisters of Battle stuff.

I am finding this heldrake is painting up faster than the first one.  Now problem is I got done recovering the ulthan grey.  Then realized it looked plain without shading.  Going back with the durchi violet and so many panel line stuff for chaos lol.  That might take the rest of the night before bed.  It looks better with the purple shading next to the gold now too though. At least on the parts I got done so far.

Well, don't mind the mess of the base right now. You can see that I found the clear X piece.  Hopefully the new phone takes better pictures.  I want to do more to the drake, but it needs to be "done" for now. I'll finish the base over the next few days.  The duration violet helped break up the chaos panels from looking so bland.  I am using gamers grass "alien infestation" basing bits for my tormentors and other bases.  Not sure what I wanted from them really.  Saw tentacles and I was thats perfect. I slapped on some random contrast paints I have around.  Decided to try out the pro acrylic neon purple for the tentacles.  A lot of things like that I am just going to experiment with the neon paints my friend was like I want to see how it looks for tyranids.  Figured he can get a good look with things that I consider will not look out of place like these basing bits.

That really looks nice - I like the flapping wings pose.

BTW, what do you use for your gold?  I'm still searching for a gold that I like, and that might fit the bill.

I am using the GW Retributor armor for the base, then a layer of auric armor gold, then I dry brushed the pro acrylic silver over it.  I did shade it with the new purple shade from GW called targor rageshade.  Once I figure out a drip bottle paint thats the equivalent to those I am going to switch them out.  As I hate the GW paint bottles.  That gold does hold well up against white is why I went with it over other ones I have.  I did overlap some of it with the durchai violet as I was trying to get shading done.  Which I was all right with. As I am using purple as a shader overall for things.

That is amazing look Heldrake. A good paint job can really change how a model looks. How did you get such good shading?

Thank you so much.  I tried to be as careful as I could with a size 1 brush to add druchi violet the purple wash from GW along all the gold edges.  I then tried to clean up any over spills I didnt want with the ulthan grey.  The drake was looking rather plain without it.  I would have normally done so with a black wash or a blue for this sort of white.  Expect I decided early on that I would do with purple.

The base is nearly finished. With the weathering warming up the mordant earth stuff is cracking pretty good.  I found out I was applying it too thickly on some of the noise marines.  Oh, well I'll cover that up with some of the blue tufts and printed flowers.  I'll get a shot of it all after work.  I also feel that a good base can help a model out a lot.  I am really liking the pink glowing cracked look.
