Hey everyone, long time no see. A lot has changed. I’m retired now and am picking up the brush for the first time in over two years.

I’ve been working on my emperor’s children and am trying a new technique. As always happy for feedback :)

Welcome back!  I'm really liking your EC.  If I were to nit pick, my only issue is the way you have done the plasma glow on the shoulder tassels/strips doesn't make much sense - it should be concentrated on the edges nearest to the plasmagun, rather than running along to top... and it looks like it runs back where the LOS between the coils and strips looks to be blocked by the shoulder and/or the back of the gun.

I really like the shading on the greaves, where you've got a cold purple shadow in the middle and a warm purple highlight

 

The turquoise really does pop, too

The armor looks fantastic - the color shift is eye catching.  Mind sharing the colors and technique?  You might have covered that on your TikTok but I don’t use the app.

So I start with a black purple base over a black primer. I then build up to a purple magenta color, over that I will block in my under highlights with pinks and pinkish whites depending on how bright I want the highlight so shaded areas  will be more pink to magenta and my higher highlights will be a pinkish white mix, I then do several glazes of magentas and purples and just Bob Ross it up, turn accidents into bounce lights etc. I’ll try to get some more in depth pictures of what I mean when I paint my next mini but here’s the basic blocking I’m talking about.

 

colors and processes used

1. black prime

2. vallejo black mixed with xereus purple base coat

3. 2-3 glazes xereus purple

4. mix xereus purple with Vallejo magenta red and do 2-3 glazes

5. then block in shapes of under highlights with emperors children layer paint higher highlights will have Vallejo ivory added for a warm pink highlight.

6. glaze with magenta red.

7. I then repeat steps five and six making the highlighted areas smaller and a little brighter until you have a pretty smooth transition.
