I am very much interested in writing up a Tactica for us. I was going to try and help with doing a Unit of the Week article back in 2021 but a lot of things happened in life.

If there is any demand for it I will continue to prepare for an article. This perspective will not be from comp play pov exclusively but rather a "heres what we have, heres what it can do" capabilities theme. Also using it as a resource for my team's knowledge since I am the only TS player currently.

I pre-ordered the Codex and a battleforce box but the Rubrics and 3x sorcerers will be going to a new player in a split. Hyped for having 2x2 robots. Maybe they infiltrate, we gonna find out this week.

Please do.

Not to get too off topic, more of just a musing. Just my personal observation: Ever notice how T.sons don't really get as much attention as the other 3 god legions in the rumors and news section? I've just noticed that typically something new drops for them or even just the hint of rumored rules and there seems to be pages of attention dedicated, but when news drop for us, its just a natural proclivity to post here instead of N&R.

We've got an active thread in there currently, and we did during the reveal stream.

I guess there's just... less rumours going around?

I agree. Tsons don’t seem super active as a community right now. Which is surprising because they are the big baddies from space marine 2; however, they never did add them in as part of multiplayer- so who knows.

that said; I’m keeping an eye on the rumors in the Tsons discord chat. Seems to be a consensus that someone will either do a pdf of a review codex or just do a video like world eaters

I think they are just less popular, been around a long time but has little model support. Tzangors just aren't exciting to me personally but the army relies upon them and that is likely to get worse with the possible loss of cultists. the new robots are static looking, not dynamic and kinda boring... the army plays fun, a challenge to paint in my opinion but they've been lingering for a long time. I know WE complain because they have 1/2 a range... TSONS have been suffering longer.

I saw you in Discord Skallagoose, what a welcome sight. I'm trying to keep up with conversation here as best I can.

So far it is confirmed by the Discord owner that Sekhetar have Infiltrate and no characters can join them.

Really? Could have sworn at the adepticon preview show GW said they have some sort of rule or ability that helps protect heroes. Maybe nothing to do with joining said unit.

On the stream, they said something along the lines of jumping in front to protect their sorcerers, and they definitely Overwatch for 0cp. In the Discord, apparently it's also free Heroic Intervention which could be connected to what they mentioned on stream. Although, I'm a little skeptical of a unit having 2 free Core Strats. I haven't seen a precedent for that, especially on a tiny 2 model 40mm base unit.

Death Company with bolters also get free Overwatch and free HI. It is mitigated by the fact that Overwatch with bolters is not very effective and the bolter version is the least effective flavour of DC in melee. Still the Sekhatar only get baby flamers so Overwatch will not be too powerful. Enough to deter a small skirmish unit or lone Character perhaps.

Where are you getting that they are cheap from?  Certainly I can't parse that from the link you provided, so from other rumors?

I forgot in the other N&R chat I mentioned that the spanish MF got leaked, I beleive they are 180 for 4.

My questions are as follows:

1) From a modelling perspective, it looks like full melee and full shooting is possible. Are they?

2) What are the configurations, and are they useful?

Are they a good firebase unit?

Are they a good melee bruiser squad?

Are they a good bodyguard unit with synergy with a Sorcerer?

Infiltrate lets you deploy them late and react to your opponent. That's nice. They're not too big, so they are easier to hide. Wonder how they'll fit in a transport like a LR- will 4 and a Sorc fill one up and be a useful LR bomb?

I think they're not too shabby, just not entirely sure losing the melta for a big fist and hand flamer is worth it.

I think the Melta has it's merits for sure, they're a decent firebase unit along with the Missile Racks, and Infiltrate + Melta can be a potentially gamewinning combo early on against an unsuspecting opponent.

That said, I personally will most likely run them with Claw+Projector 100% (or at least 95%) of the time.
Theres just something about free Overwatch on 4 infiltrating Sekhetars with Heavy Warpflamers and Projectors that just makes me smile. The Projectors also synergise better with the Warpflamers and free Overwatch + the Claw actually turns them into genuine threats in close combat: "Yeah I don't have my 4 S10 Meltashots, but here's 12 S10 Claw attacks."
I can also see them get bogged down in combat (and eventually get killed) without the Claws.

Edit: Also fwiw, they're Vehicles and Walkers, so can't sit in a Land Raider or walk trough walls.
Also means you can shoot your opponent in the face at point blank range.

While the rules are strict on loadout as seen by the leaked photo, looking at the models themselves, unless GW has mirrored some in every shot, it looks like each set of two has a left claw and a right claw, a left flamer and a right flamer and a left melta and a right melta as seen in this picture:

40k_ts-influencerexpert-may15-image3_war

Since I presume they come in a box of two and each set of two therefore has each arm option once it should be possible to build an all melee one and a all shooty one (with the same weapon on each arm). However if you wanted to make a unit of 2 melee or 2 (of the same gun) shooty one you would need 2 boxes worth and then end up with one set of 2 melee ones and one set of 2 shooty (though they could be in a game legal melta plus flamer combination).

Rulewise, they always come with a Missile Rack and a Heavy Warp Flamer.
The options are then either a Meltagun (all-shooty) or a Claw with built-in Warpflame Projector (melee shooty-hybrid).

I think the Sekhetar on the left on the picture above is mirrored in some way. At the very least, the option for playing them with dual Heavy Warpflamers or dual Meltas isn't there.

I retract my previous comment about the power of Overwatch on these guys. They don't have baby flamers, they have AP-2 Heavy flamers with the option to take a baby flamer on top. Overwatch is going to be brutal from these guys with an average of 14 S5 AP-2 hits and an optional extra 8 hits and any lucky 6s from the Hellfyre missiles.

The choice between melta and claw is tricky but I think I lean in favour of the claw. 3 S10 powerfist attacks, even at WS4+ is a serious deterrent to anyone trying to shut down their shooting with melee. Without Claws, the free HI just lack bite.

Depends how many shots the Melta is. They can shoot in combat can't they? That said, Claws give an extra melee punch outside the Terminators. But then again, you can Infiltrate 4 Melta weapons and the Flamers in a single squad...

Ya know, it's a tough call.
