They’ll have pretty much exhausted the 40K nostalgia so look out for square bases and rank and file Horus Heresy.

Square bases mentioned on Horus Hearsay..... they're listening.

The Servo-Skull is interesting, because it has quite a few design cues from the Nuncio-Vox.

With the box stating that it's a power armoured Centurion instead of a Praetor, I wonder if it's designed to have the options to cover a few Consuls? At least the Siege Breaker and Master of Signal (the latter of whom still hasn't had an updated model).

It would be hilarious if it is in fact the case that 50%+ of the stuff on the official GW trollsite is them repeating "rumours" that are nothing more than unsubstantiated fan speculation on the internet.

That's so meta it's almost art. Stick it in the Tate Modern.

I just kept seeing people use the AJ term and not understand what AJs are versus codices or other similar books.

To emphasise this: when The Old World released, there was the core rule book and then the army lists were in two nice hardcover books (Ravening Hordes for "the baddies" and Forces of Fantasy for "the goodies").

Warhammer: The Old World': How GW Should Add More Armies - Bell of Lost Souls

(Plus PDFs for all the "legacy factions" which weren't going to get continued support.)

Supplemental to that, factions get Arcane Journals. These contain more in-depth faction lore, rules for narrative battles, rules for special characters, and rules for Armies of Infamy (which introduce new kitbashed units, army formations, etc).

(Though it has been said that Grand Cathay's Arcane Journal will function differently, and essentially just be their Army Book.)

Arguably, The Horus Heresy 2nd kind of already has this: Exemplary Battle in the Age of Darkness Vol 1. This collected some of the (mostly previously published on WarCom) lore, narrative battle rules, and new unit rules for:

  • The Defense of Sotha, (UM vs NL; Atramentar)
  • The Siege of Hydra Cordatus (IF vs IW; Dominator Cohort)
  • The Battle of Armatura (UM vs WE; Red Hand Destroyers)
  • The Battle of Calth (UM vs WB; Nemesis Destroyers)
  • The Purging of the Invocatus System (SA vs EC; Sanctifiers)
  • Fulgrim Transfigured, and Legions Hereticus (Emperor's Children) with new Rites, etc.

So (I suppose) the rumour could be better phrased as: instead of getting Siege of Cthonia, Battle for Beta-Gammon, and The Martian Civil War as ~200pg campaign supplements, we'll see smaller ~50pg supplements instead.

Or: they're going to take those ~10pg Exemplary Battle pdf's and gussy them up into ~50pg affairs, with more units, additional Rites of War, Characters, etc. for each Legion.

The Unification & Great Crusade-era modelling communities are really excited by this release. The turtle terminators are nothing that hasn't been in print form for some time but will be lovely to have some plastics.

Would be really cool to do them up in some War Hounds, Dusk Raiders, Revenant Legion colours etc.

Agreed, as soon as I saw the box I immediately thought of Luna Wolves

hope not, I like these bigger campaign books, they are already quite a bit shorter than the Black Books but I would definitely prefer it to the short arcane journal paperbacks.

We currently get one campaign book and one pdf made into book a year ish.

The arcane journal release would have to be one every two months or 6 a year.

Id take the arcane journals for a better chance at seeing my legion get releases tbh

Strange post in the Eye of Horus group.

Pretty sure that is just what Macca from Outer Circle thinks should be the rules. Nothing official just his opinion. Unless he's ripped it off from Eye of Horus first!

It looks like a Cyber-Familiar that can be added to a Praevian or Forge lord currently. The Iron Hands Praetor is another example of a recent version of it. Between the box label and part count on the previews, I agree it's likely a multi-option Centurion. It could cover quite a few options, for reference:

No models:
Armistos
Forge lord
Delegatus
Pathfinder
Primus Medicae (in power armor)
Warmonger

Old scale models:
Chaplain
Praevian
Techmarine
Moritat
Master of Signals
Vigilator

If done right, that model could cover 4+ of those options from what we've seen. It's a long shot, but maybe we get to see a full sprue Friday.

When did they make a Chaplain?

It's the Betrayal at Calth plastic model that comes with the Cataphractii Praetor sprue. I imagine it will be re-done eventually, but maybe not with this model. Notably this Centurion is labeled as "in mark 2." They left the door open to other Centurion mark models in the future.

It's part of the box' centurion. You can see it on the leaked photograph.
