Is there a tl;dr because I hate listing to those kind of youtuber.

Even the ever-pessimistic posters in the Horus Heresy general thread on /tg/ mock him constantly. So cynical and whiney that even 4chan can't stand him lol

We currently get one campaign book and one pdf made into book a year ish.

The arcane journal release would have to be one every two months or 6 a year.

Id take the arcane journals for a better chance at seeing my legion get releases tbh

I’d sort of prefer the AJ format, if for no other reason than it’s going to hurt less when I am lying on the couch “thinking” and I suddenly drop the book on my head…

Seriously though, the AJ format works well for old world in that they keep the overall momentum of the game going, they’re sort of fun and they’re completely optional at the same time (I’m sure there’s a special character in one of them, that competitively minded OW players will say is the only viable way to run the faction, but eh - optimum builds hinging on specific characters is not what these games should be about to begin with). I could see them working well for HH too, as I don’t really think we’re realistically looking at black book-style releases ever again, awesome though they were (and, comparatively speaking, cheap for what they were).

One of the true tragedies of the internet is the way that it’s become possible to monetise making people feel bad about the hobby that ought to brighten up their lives.

I am not saying everyone should be over the moon about everything, but imagine how bleak your outlook on the hobby must become, if your input feed is just that type of content

I'm not expecting the Centurion to be a multipart kit with options for various Consuls, though I'd love to see that done in plastic at some point to relieve some of the older resin options. I imagine it would sell really well.

The blurry picture we have so far gives me similar vibes to the Age of Darkness Praetors which were similarly ornate with a lot going on, so if I had to bet it would be that the only option is for a helmet/bare head.

I haven't thought about this but could be. Or the dude in the box is just a forgelord or other Consul which has access.

More like: The guy is supposed to be an Iron Warrior, as per the box.

So maybe now Iron Hands (who could do it before) as well as Iron Warriors can select cyber-familiars ?

Seems more likely to me.

They're just painted as Iron Warriors/Salamanders, I can't see a scenario where they'd lock options in the game's starter box behind individual legions.

They won't, it'd essentially cripple sales to some extent. GW want this box completely accessible to all (marine) HH players and those looking to jump in.

Even 40k starter sets use generics for this reason.

this is exactly what happened to the Storm Raven when it first released, the box art was Blood Angels not Ultramarines and sales were abysmal until it was reboxed into blue.

Prospero Burns box set had faction-specific characters and generic troops.

To be clear, I don’t think this is a legion-specific centurion, I just think it leans in a certain direction so it suits some Legions especially well.

Sure, but that wasn't the starter set/launch box for the Horus Heresy (even if it we all treated it that way), it was its own game. The models in this box may well have been designed with the theme in mind but there's no way they'd risk limiting the audience for a major release like this.

Anyway, this gave me a chuckle

The consul does look like he's wielding a blurry crozius to me.

I think it's just a generic power maul rather than a proper crozius but we should find out Friday

If it is a power maul than he'll be great for my Iron Warriors since I like giving my characters the IW 'graviton mace'

Gotta say, the amount of disintegrators is getting kinda wild. both Saturnine's having them is fine since they will rather on the elite side, but between the heavier disintegrators and the hand held double barreled ones I am starting to get the feeling special and heavy weapon squads may also get them besides Vets.

Which could get weird when you consider these are S5 AP2 Gets hot instant death guns.... So maybe a stat change is coming?

And it looks like the saturnine dread may have chest & arm mounted ones as well. Will be very curious to see how they translate through to 3.0, given that there appears to be just so many different varieties.

Yeah, I’d be willing to bet real live dolleridoos that the cyber-familiar is going to become generic wargear if the rumors about the changes to consuls and army building are true.

If that happens, the themes and fluff will be even more diluted. It should be something only the techically inclined Consul types (Praevian, Forge Lord, Mortificator) should be able to pick, plus maybe Techmarines adn then the various Mechanicum characters.

Even for militia / cults I'd restrict it to characters w. the corresponding Provenance(s).

Everyone just having access to it seems ... wrong.

Yeah, sorry I'm a flavour- / fluff-wh*re

Back on topic, I think at this point it's just utterly hilarious how they (GW) are picking up stuff from different forums / chatgroups and are using them on their Hearsay page,

literally feeding people back their own ideas / wishlists.

I've heard more rumors on Discord.

All in here - you'll have to search for messages from them. To summarise:

- reactions changing from once per unit per _phase_ to once per unit per _turn_

- no terminator command squads*

- I was close with a guess that the vehicle damage table would be changing in _some_ way

- can charge out of non-Assault transports, but the charge is disordered

Someone claimed to know a playtester:

His exact words and approximate facial expressions were:

"Have you heard the 3rd ed rumours? Well y'know how kakophoni don't get line in third company elite..? [Raises eyebrows] Yeah. They're good now. I'm really mad that I sold all mine before I heard - I had 3x10. Anyway I can't tell you any more but I'd definitely recommend building some"

*another rumor is that command squads just get them as an option again.

As usual take all of that with a bucket of salt.

A cyber familiar can be anything from a servo-skull or advanced Mechanicum assistant to a pet bird servitor. The Ravenwing and White Scars use them like UAVs (there is art of the raven wing releasing a flock of them in the 4th Edition DA codex).

I am well aware of that, I love me a good Scars Praetor w. Psyber-Eagle, which has a different function, rules wise (cyber-hawk !).

I just think it'd be boring if EVERYONE had the same options, you know.

It definitely gives early Crusade vibes, like how excited we were about full Volkite back in the day. Really curious how they're going to handle it.
