Great miniatures, but utterly disheartened by the new rules, and by the fact existing players are facing an approximate £100 'hobby tax' to carry on playing the game (new rules, Liber, and now tokens ).

I think at my local gaming group the existing Heresy players are going to stick to 2nd Edition. I'm certainly in that camp - I'd rather the £100 went on new models, thanks very much GW :ermm:

Anyone else have a little hell ya! moment when the warlord used its gatling megabolter?

Macro-gatling blaster, the megabolters are a bit different and carapace weapons rather than being from the autocannon family.

I got excited as I was hoping it was going to be an Age of Darkness preview rather than just Heresy and this was standing in for that section of the game's cinematic.

I can't believe they announced another 40k Space Wolves kit at the end. </jk>

Don't think it's been posted, so here are the options for the Praetor from the stream. A surprising variety for a Heresy character.

yeah probably because they don't ever want to make another Saturine anything after this!

The MK II marines look amazing. Not a fan of the saturnine or the new books. I’m not fearing missing out on the box set this time which is good. As expected I’ll maybe look out for some of the marines when they start popping up on eBay. I’ve still got plenty of special weapons left to mix them up a bit too.

Should be cheaper than that. Last time the rulebook could be had for as little as £12 due to the mass of boxes being parted out.

Good:

- Stats from Rogue Trader added to the game.

- Status effects added to the game.

Bad:

- Liber Books revamped (Bookromunda).

- Scale creep (New Praetor as big as Primarch). New Primarchs will be increased in scale to.

Result for me:

No purchase.

Still got to buy a new Liber, which will be about £50 (given inflation), and those status tokens.

Then there's the expansions like Siege of Cthonia etc that are also invalidated - that's another £40-odd down the tubes, having to buy whichever supplement has the rules you want for the new edition e.g. Zone Mortalis

Anyone want to bet there'll be a MkII Battle Group box? And it'll be the first place to get the MkII Assault Marines?

Feels unlikely with them being in the big box. Unless there was a MK.VI battle group at some point that I'm forgetting about.

Initial 5am pre-coffee thoughts

  1. Hype!
  2. Really love all the models and the declaration that the transition from resin to plastic is accelerating (I hope they reach Legion-specific in the not too distant future). The Mark II Assault Marine was the surprise favourite and I'm impressed by the options on the various Saturnine kits.
  3. Trailer was spectacular.
  4. Books on launch good; the added rules reentry cost so soon after 2.0 will be hard to take for many. For me, it will boil down to whether the changes to the game are an improvement.
  5. On rules, I'm a little nervous of the mention of fewer restrictions on army building. I really do love the FOC and the structure it enforces, but guess we'll see how it all works together in practice. The other changes I'll need time and more information to digest.

All in all not an exaggeration to say I think this is the best online preview they've ever done. The only thing missing for me was a little interview with Andy Hoare/one of the actual designers.

Terrible EC screenshots for my fellow degenerates

Why would the primarchs be scaled up when saturnines are clearly a centurion-esque exo suit?

I don't remember seeing this art of MkIV armour previously in the Black Books. Could this be a teaser of a future release?

Caught that one as well! Think we're looking at mk4 in about a years time.

Those are the old Drop Pods in the back right? Wonder if 30k will get a repackage afterall?

Is it me or does this drop pod weapon seem different? Doesn't look like the missile launcher or the storm bolter.

Edit: It's just the rear of the default storm bolter.

To be honest I reckon you could still likely play all the missions from the expansions.
