That's not a good enough explanation, IMO. Many elite legion terminator units favoured the strongest possible armour they could use. Why weren't the IW Dominators at Phall or IH Morlocks at Issvan 5 using those?

Also, why would Vukan gift Saturnine to the Night Lords or the World Eaters?

Because they’re fighting the same crusade, and despite any personal feelings he may have towards those legions, as far as he knows, they are still loyal forces working towards the same goal and any improvements in their armoury benefits the imperium as a whole.

I'm excited about so much of this; the models, the rules, the energy behind the releases.

Want Saturnine Dreadnought and Terminators please thank you.

I must confess to my nerves regarding the vehicle rules aping 40K though. Damage stats on all weapons and the reference in the stream that the multi-damage Lascannons are better for anti-tank etc.

I don't want 40K. That game sucks. So nerves are there.

Think of it as more weapons having "Brutal".

What I wished for:  Dreadnoughts going back to armour values / facings.

What I might get:  Vehicles now converting to wounds as in Warcrapper40k.

*sigh*

Use the 1st edition black books with the 5th edition brb. Get the best core mechanics sans codex creep.

But 1st ed was released for 6th ed 40k, got a brief 7th update, and then its own 7.5 AoD red book rules. It's even possible to play it with 5th ed?

I guess I’m in the vast minority.  I hated the way monsters were way harder to kill than giant tanks.  About the only thing I liked in the 10th rules was the upped toughness of vehicles.  I wish they had differ toughness values for facings.

Idk, maybe I just had too many squads of Leman Russ tanks get wiped of the board by Eldar in 7th edition.

You never know until you get the game though.  I was all hyped about 10th edition 40K rules and then it got here.

Yes? Heresy launched at the very start of 6th, and if you go back and read betrayal, a whole bunch of rites make more sense in the context of 5ths special rules (i.e. all the outflanking). Quad mortars having shell shocked also make sense since they'd have had pinning in 5th. Artificer tanking was basically irrelevant due to 5ths wound allocation system. Armoured ceramite didn't totally invalidate melta since you could still get a kill off a glance. A whole lot of weapons actually work better, since you just need a pen to kill, instead of ap 2, and power weapons aren't second class citizens to the power/chainfist.

You basically ditch the hull points, choose your psychic powers, and adopt warlord traits.

An entirely new edition and ruleset is very exciting.

If the 10 converter Fulmentarus Terminators that I put together last edition are invalidated, I will be immeasurable annoyed and irked. This is exactly why I got turned away from the Heresy in the past.

Some of the new stuff looks absolutely great - the Fellblade feels like a dream unit. I like the giant Dread but I feel a unit like that belongs in 40k more. Some whacky new Walker from the mad mind of Cawl.

Looks like the new Tarantula missile pods. But we don't know if this is a neat kitbash, or predators could now mount those somehow

My guess, it looks like the a whirlwind missile tank, similar to the 2nd edition epic version / 2nd edition 40k metal/plastic hybrid.

Very nice!!

So glad HH is getting a vast overhaul. It was greatly needed and hopefully the game is in better hands now.

2.0 was fine except for the monstrous Dreadnoughts and reaction limits.

I'd like to share the optimism, but I highly doubt things will become better / improve from here on.

Better hands ? How so ?

The practical of that is my friends just won't play. Working men with families in our 40s... ain't nobody got time for that... to do the job of a gaming company for them.

People are just lining up other games and being done with it. Trench Crusade for example.

This is what I mean. We have enough examples of alternative rule sets, and lets be honest its not as if 3rd to 5th was too arduous, that someone has to have written a not-40K/not-HH rule set that is close enough.

I mean if people like being on the 3 year rotation and getting gouged by a company that has no real motivation to write a good stable rule set, thats fine, but honestly there is just no need for it in the modern age.

Other communities find ways to do it, its honestly weird at this point that GW gamers are so slaved to bad rule sets.

I like the look of this release a lot.

On the subject of why everyone doesn't go around in Saturnine armour, one key reason might be transport capacity. If they're bulky 3 or even 4, you won't be able to get many of them in a Land Raider. That means you won't be able to get many into melee, where elites do best - except perhaps by teleporting.

It also looks like it would make fighting on ships pretty difficult. How do you go through a door, or even open one if both of your hands are guns? You can't just disintegrate your own bulkheads.

Basically, the bigger and clunkier an exo suit is the less it matters how skillful its pilot is. You want your Justaerin to be able to bring their strength to bear.

Whew, I'm late. I like what I see so far, now I only need to see a cross-section of the saturnine innards. Depending on that i might just turn them into pre-perturabo proto-oblierators for my word bearers.

Shaving and/or desecrating the eagles will be a bit of a challenge though.

You could keep playing 2.0 if you don’t like it.  I would think that would be way easier within the HH community than the 40K one and there are a fair number of folks playing earlier versions of that.

Not sure how I feel on how the weapon profiles are presented, even though some are very similar, I'm going to miss things like Assault 3, rather than it now being FP 3 with Assault in the traits section. Very minor thing to complain about I'm sure, I'll probably get used to it.

I'll say I'm tentatively caution to see what the new rules are like, I'll be getting the box for the models anyway, so I'll have the book to look over.

Loving the saturnine minis, rapiers and breachers at last.

Plastic fellblade also means I'll be getting a glaive.

Trepidation as always with change but hopeful. This edition I'll finish my Isstvan III Loyalists.
