In 2.0, Saturnine armor is developed after Mk6 so after Istvaan V,but now is fully functional in the Dropship Massacre.  Or the supposed "uber-Dreadnought" was the Leviathan, in very few units before Istvaan events. Know is the Saturnine dreadnought.

And how-knows what other things are re-writen.

I know lot of people don't care a thing about background, specifically GW. But I believe this "over flexibility", trying to be polite and correct, is truly excessive and counterproductive. After all, now the only useful part of the previous books is the background, and what's the value of it, if is constantly re-done and changed at please?

None. So those books are becoming even faster is something little more than a fancy paperweight. And wasted money and space.

At least, in my personal opinion.

Looks like, with redone breast plate.

According to the video they released, Saturnine was developed on Saturn late in the conquest of Terra and was already out of use by the end of the Great Crusade. I’m cool with that, but IMO if that’s the case their weaponry should be much more rudimentary, even with Vulkan’s “upgrading”.

I get GW wants to release a new shiny for the new edition, but that doesn’t mean you have to make it leaps and bounds better than the other TDA variants, particularly when those ones are technically newer. I’d have even settled for Saturnine being equipped with Combi-Bolters, a CC weapon and an option heavy weapon to mount on the back, not this new tech.

Great preview show!

I like the Saturnine models a lot better now, that blurry picture really did them dirty. I don't think I'll get them because they're just SO BIG, but they do look good.

Looking forward to breachers and rapiers, maybe do something with the Mk II assault marines as well depending on the other weapon options

THAT was the retcon.

I always found it odd that the Saturnine came after MK6 in the lore section of the rulebook. As far as I remembered it was the oldest of terminators marks and they now just flipped back to that.

Could be any of the Old Card Art for these units.

Those are Pilgryms in the teaser, which are Ranger analogues. The cards you posted are Protectors which will be the Vanguard analogues.

I think that was previously just 3rd party fanon.

Betrayal said that Saturnine Pattern TDA was functionally similar to Tartaros and Indomitus, and the 2nd Rulebook said it entered production mid-Heresy, and that's basically everything that's previously been said about Saturnine Pattern TDA.

3rd party model makers decided to associate the name with the old "egg-man" design, and GW has now agreed.

It’s a retcon that squares two previously round pegs. I fail to see the problem other than mindless hating on the writers. It’s not like they invented a new space marine that’s better than the Emperor’s original design.

The lovely lad(singular) behind minicompare got the infantry already set up.  The tank and rapiers will likely take until we get the 360 view since the initial picture are in a slightly elecated 3/4 profile.

Some weirdness with the old breacher aside (who seems to be on a 25mm but scaled to a 32mm base perhaps) everything seems to keep mostly in line. Cataphractii getting a slight bump with their seeming refresh probably won't hurt though.

Still wanna see how the innards of saturnine work out before I let myself go full proportion nerd, since the legs at least seem to work.

Counter intuitively; I do love that the basic legionaire has the same five poses regardless of mark. Makes me want to grab a saw and make frankenstein abominations like that one iron hands art piece that combined MkIII and MkIV.

Not even the Emperor's design. Amar Astarte's design. The Emperor was bankrolling the project but was too busy with unifying Terra to run it himself.

Yes it was accredited to the Emperor for a while but the even older lore had others doing the work and not him.

Back on topic: I like the look of both the rule changes and the models.

Though getting damage stats on the weapons makes me think we might be seeing a change to how vehicles work. I doubt we're going to see hull points but maybe we'll see actual a wounds characteristic. I don't expect to see armor values to go away mind you, but I suspect something is changing.

Iirc it was a full research team, with the guy behind the carapace being mind absorbed.

I would go so far and apply some big handwavium and say all the cawl additions were just shelved during that time either due to time constraints or not being done before the carapace, with the latter being the one thing marking the endpoint regardless of how many other upgrades got done by then.

that video trailer was amazing. Valdor, Krole and Malcador - my 3 favorite characters. this puts me in a tough spot because I kind of want an army of them now

Lucky you, that seems to be on the horizon. Well, at least the talons part. Don't think we'll get an army of Malcador.

Oh, in case my post was misunderstood: I have absolutely no problem with it.

(Just responding to the idea that the 2nd edition Rulebook was a retcon of Saturnine's previously established lore. Saturnine didn't have previously established lore.)

I'm wondering how tanky Saturnine will be. On the stream, they said a Praetor would be able to fight Primarchs.

Hopefully they won't be able to fight a Primarch very well. I don't know how others feel, but I like the Primarchs being on a level all their own

Just got in from work and able to catch up.

Well, that's more than I expected to see announced.

Excited for MkII, Assault Marines, Breachers (I like the Breacher shown has a drum mag too, reloading got to be a pain with that shield), really like the Rapier crew, may well be some decent bitz there for Counsels assuming they still exist. Interested that the Fellblade has optional crew, the FW crew were cool.

Currently unbothered by the Saturnine stuff, would have rather seen Tartaros (my favourite mark) and/or Cataphractii updated. Will definitely hold out final judgement to see what they look like in person.

Intrigued as to how list building is going to go. I hope that the more unusual armies can still be viable, I'd love to be able to field Recon Company etc.

I'm probably still not getting back into the hobby until we see upscale MkIV as that's my favourite but some great stuff is coming.

I don't like the Saturnine Praetor being so powerful tbh.

This

It’s powerful if it’s 2.0, we don’t know how strong 6 wounds and T6 will be in an edition where Damage and Stat mods will play a heavier role. Especially since the box he comes in has two sprues of Terminator Erasers in it.

So who is everybody's legion of choice? I'm very much considering Deathguard. I love the lore and colour scheme.  This box will be an evergreen release they seemed to indicate. I missed out on the previous HH starter set, but may very well pull the pin on this one and make a purchase once the dust settles.

I've got 8000 points of EC painted. I'll be adding to them this edition for sure.

Looks like a good shout on the cataphractii.

I meant to say earlier but that was the best preview show they've done in a long while. Exceeded expectations for what was shown that is for sure. I'd have been happy to see breachers or rapiers but to see both plus the fellblade and mkii assault marine was great. Throw in a bone for mech and custodes it was great.

Question is what am I selling to fund it as I've sold 2 AoS armies that paid for my 40k EC.
