In the last 20 years or so of Internet discussion over the hobby I learned one thing:

People constantly complain about the dumbest :cuss: and come to the worste possible conclusion no matter what.

Luckily for me I am always right and never unnecessarily complain because my complains are always sound and base on reason and never are childish overreacting.

Ever.

I disagree. And I am SO offended you would suggest that.

You know what, I tell you who's behind the 'need' for wordy and verbose rules writing that borders on word-salad vomit.

I saw people argue for hours about things like that.

Hours.

So yeah I am glad they try to make their rules watertight.

ARRRRRR you!

Melta has only ever had its special rule under half range. In 3rd ed to HH2.0 this was defined as 'rolling an extra dice', in current 40k its 'increase damage to X D6+X'. In HH3.0 they have reworked armourbane to double damage (by implication) which only works on 'Melta' when within half range.

Nothing has changed here; Meltas get their special rule under half range, however that special rule works.

Yes, but you've now got a USR that exists to use another USR but with a range attached. Attach the range to the second USR (Armourbane) and Melta USR doesn't need to exist.

armourbane doesn't double damage.

Ahhh yes melta is double damage, armourbane is no glances, makes sense now

A lot of the special rules now work completely differently. We oldtimer will struggle with that for sure.

I still think about stuff from 3rd sometimes so yeah.

The way I am generally treating the rules writing of this edition is that the bolded summary is the rule and the chunk of text explaining it in more detail is there to try and preemptively answer any and all questions the designers thought players might have.

Yes it's wordy but honestly I would rather they go into too much detail trying to explain something than not enough.

i had an entire indomni terminator army in 1.0 that was made unplayable in 2.0 (unless i proxied them as Tarty) so im fully expecting some units/ armies to be ruined at this point.

Those got rules as part of the legacies pdf though?

It's weird that I'm not the main character when some people spend time obsessing over me

I wonder which faction of players caused Specialist Games to decide being hyper wordy in rule writing was necessary...I have a vague suspicion it might be the people who talk about negative modifiers at “decision points” though. That feels like someone more into rules than models and campaign games.

Better keep on wondering lol. My beloved 5th edition had 119 pages and simple language, and if I had to read judgments and legislation written like 3rd HH I'd quit the field. It's very possible to do simple technical writing that results in a good product.

I have to say my favorite thing about the leaks is Pyromancers exploding on death, though. I don't like some changes, but that makes a part of my brain happy.

Going to be a lot of Firebrarian consuls sent on one way trips this edition.

I'm excited for the Biomancers and Telekines. +2S/T on the charge, 3+ Shroud reaction & pinning weapon - so cool! I really hope Daemon Fulgrim gets at least something psychic this time.

I think we will see rites of war that allow alternative units to be taken as troop choices, and that's how we will get dreadnaught or troop choice armies, but those rules are probably in the libers.

Can we all agree that if for nothing else the dream is that the books are set up better than 2.0? Slogging through those books for rules was a nightmare. I had tabs in mine for the most needed sections but convoluted setups like that don't help sell the game. Tell me the new edition is properly organized and you'll start getting my interest.

The book also seems to come with a quick reference guide, telling you which page to go to specifically to find wargear, special rules, phase guides, etc. I imagine it won't be long before an intrepid community members puts together a quick-reference document as well, ala the Omega Codex from 2.0.

Every edition some people say they won't play it and will stick with the old, but 95% of players end up playing the new stuff.

I’m still in 1.0. One of the reasons is I prefer the rule set, another is because all of my models are 1.0 and the scale has definitely changed since then and most importantly… that’s the last time I actually had a chance to play 30K

Everyone at my LGS’ has hobby ADD and just jumps from one game to the next in a matter of months. I don’t understand how these people can afford to buy into a new game every season and still eat.

yeah i did but their wargear was massively reduced, so the fact i had 3 squads that all were armed with volkites that would need replacing. The dozen indomni HQ units all now are not possible.

Might finally be time to leave Battlescribe behind, accept the time sink and get stuck into Excel...!

The level of flow chart makes me think that some kind of project management tool might be needed…

Oh yeah, that would be a lot of work.

Ah, I see the argument now, yes.
