The little newsletter giveaway they have going right now probably also meant some of the stock was put to the side, since it is dependent on what the eventual winners choose. Not a humongous snag, but I assume it would be easier to keep some stuff back, just in case the winners all pick the same stuff, while the rest of the stockpiling and re-packaging, and movement is being done.

That does however mean, if they decide to restock it all at the same time, it'll be a big flood of people on the webstore all at the same time come release.

An additional hope is some of the resin units become plastic. Would even take a Legion specific upgrade box over some prices.

They’ve sort of tacitly said this will happen once the main range is all plastic, I think. At least that’s what I remember AH saying in the end of year video they put out in 2024.

Not sure what that means for the various units - Templars, Phallanx Warder, Headhuntets - that help on the older plastic or resin tactical/despoiler kits.

I'd love Legion specific stuff in plastic, upscaled, or just "refreshed" (and hopefully faithfully, not completely aesthetic re-do***). Taller Palatine Blades. Bigger Ashen Circle. Night Raptors less skinny jean-like. Sons of Horus Reavers big and meaty like berzerkers.**

This might get people upset depending how often and how many at a time they release.

**Keep the aesthetics the same, maybe repose squads to allow more personality to shine through, again picture Sons of Horus reavers in charging poses like berzerkers.

Adam Troke: What's next on the horizon for the Horus Heresy setting, be that Age of Darkness or Legions Imperialis?

Andy Hoare: So specifically for Age of Darkness first of all we're carrying on our journey into the core Space Marine range, so there'll be plenty more coming out for that. Hopefully quite soon there'll be a Melee Weapons set!

Adam Troke: The long-awaited!

Andy Hoare: The long-awaited Melee set which we've mentioned in some roadmaps in the past, we're probably almost ready to show those I'd have thought. Much awaited. There'll be more Space Marine stuff - more core Space Marine stuff. Longer term we'll start diving into the individual legions in plastic as well, but for the foreseeable future it's still the core stuff because there's an awful lot there to do. There'll be subsequent waves of Solar Auxilia and of Mechanicum as well so we'll carry on broadening each of those factions for a little while yet.

Adam Troke: That's incredible - it feels like you're just sort of getting started really.

Andy Hoare: It's quite funny, yeah - after twelve years or so of doing the Age of Darkness setting previously with Forge World and then a couple of years doing it with, in the plastic range, it's just starting to mature really. When we get into the legion-specific stuff down the line that will be the real awakening of it.

Adam Troke: That sounds amazing. What can you tell us about future releases for Legions Imperialis?

Andy Hoare: Legions Imperialis is a great range because it's all plastic, and most of it is drawing off of vehicles and unit types that we already know about for the Age of Darkness game. It's definitely our ambition long term that anything we make for the full scale Age of Darkness game we would also make at Epic scale for the Legions Imperialis game. That gives us an enormous amount of stuff to explore, so we're likely to be doing that for many years yet, there's a huge amount to do.

We came out of the gates with a core Space Marine and a Solar Auxilia range, so obviously we want to carry on expanding that, but there's other factions to explore. There's Mechanicum, there's Custodes, there's Sisters of Silence, there's a whole load of stuff that we could do in the future as we come to it - but it's a big job of work initially to fill out the Space Marine range and the Solar Auxilia range, so that's we'll be doing for the next few years.

For units like that I could also see them doing upgrade kits for otherwise regular units, seeing as it's basically just weapons , some shin plates, some bits and bobs.

Beyond that I almost do not dare to dream of the potential of plastic gal vorbak, and I'll keep the damsa variant files in  my back pocket just in case it remains a pipe dream.

Honestly if they design new upgrade kits to be as comprehensive as something like Black Templars had in 4th/8th edition then you can cover a lot of units, after all most unique units are mostly legion specific iconography plus special options, Huscarls are literally just a storm shield, Templars are heads and special chests and all the various power armored units are just options no other power armored units can have, doing it like that could speed up the release schedule so everyone can get their stuff soon ish and let them focus on other releases.

Though funnily, this was only a couple of weeks before the mechanicus Legions Imperialis release.

Yep - which is what leads me to believe that interview was recorded a few months prior to the stream itself.

I'm convinced we'll start seeing the Legion-specific plastics rolling out this edition, particularly now we're seeing updated Cataphractii teases. Probably one of the bigger hurdles there.

If they released one legion specific plastic at the same pace as the arcane journals it will be 2027 before the finally get to the last Legion. Can you imagine what would happen to the game if they did that?

I was thinking the same thing but I just realized that between the new weapon stats rules article, the saturnine terminator rules article, and the saturnine dreadnought rules article they have pretty much showed us almost all of the profiles for disintegrator weapons that will appear in the starter box.

Outside of maybe some special characters for a BL release or the like, I think we are unlikely to see plastic legion specific stuff this edition. I think we will get another MK of Armor, new Cataphractii and the new assault fellows, maybe with some new kits for existing units, amd of course breachers. We will probably get Admech wave 2, Dark Mech, and a lot of plastic for Custodes.

This will leave us in a pretty good spot going into 4E in 2028 when they will likely start to release legion specific books and release plastics for the legions, if it's still selling well.

One of those ten Cataphractii as a Centurion to lead them, plus a couple Prime Slot benefits and you're probably there with that collection. I say probably, I haven't sat down and done the maths because, well... it's not my army!

I am not a fan of proxies so the terminator grunt remains a terminator grunt.

Just kitbash him; add some fancy bits or legion specific bits. It’s what the game used to be about and definitely a part of HH still:

I would prefer if the Legion specific stuff were unique sculpts, on one hand I'd feel better if more of it came out quicker, but if it's plastic upgrade things you can slap onto the existing tactical or assault squads, sure.

Fingers crossed it's not 3 year cycles, at least 4, but maybe 6 from some sources I've heard. At least, 6 for TOW and HH. We don't know for certain that they're switching heresy to 3 year cycle, because the time between 1st ed heresy and 2nd ed heresy was 10 years. Between 2nd and 3rd was three years. Two data points doesn't a pattern make, you know.

I wouldn't be shocked if they have been holding stock for when they put 3.0 on preorder just so people will go all in on their army projects out of the gate.

Could also be a good avenue to roughly gauge legion demand, might need to make sure to at least get a transfer to maybe egg them on to give me Lorgar Transfigured.

Well, if you are absolutely determined to stick rigidly to what you've got with no kitbashing/conversion, that's your prerogative. But then I posit you don't really have a leg to stand on when you also insist the new FOC has made your army unplayable.
