Yes they’ve said that legion specific plastics are coming and yes I’m pretty sure playtesters are still used, but I’m less sure a playtester would know so specifically that legion specific units are going to be losing options now to gain them back later when they get plastic kits.

Playtesting is still a thing.

But is using an external playtesting group still a thing? I thought they ended that.

EDIT: removing options to add them back when a kit goes to plastic seems like a lot of extra work for no real benefit.

Like anyone with a brain would know that losing options would hurt sales for those units in the mean time.

I mean sure, but legion specific plastics have been talked about once, as a very long term goal once the generic stuff is more or less done.

A playtester somehow knowing it would happen within the 3 years 3.0 will presumably last is just weird

Having units that match the fluff is a good thing. It encourages the player to play narratively rather than just take what gives them an advantage.

I don’t think the complaint is that they were given fluffy options, it’s that some were given fluffy but mediocre options and some were given fluffy and strong options.

They should either all be fluffy and average or all be fluffy and strong. Having a mix leaves some feeling a bit short changed.

The other issue is that some legion units in 2.0 could have their fluffy perks negated by reactions. Templar Brethren for example had lots of their identity built around a successful charge giving them bonuses, however those bonuses could be trivially switched off by someone holding the line. A unit like Tyrant siege terminators on the other hand only had to worry about return fire and most vehicles couldn’t return fire effectively anyway and only a few infantry units had weapons that would worry a squad of terminators.

I’m really hoping that this edition reduces the sense of Haves and Have Nots that affected many of the legions in 2.0.

Then they're not playing to the spirit of the game and don't play against them next time? If they're min maxing just for the best outcome, what's the point? It's no longer a narrative game. It's just statistics and random dice rolls. Why bother with the minatures, the fluff at that point? May as well use cardboard tokens.

Saturnine assembly instructions have been posted on reddit.

Part 1 - Centurion, Praetor, Mark II, Disintegrators

Part 2 - Saturnine Terminators & Dreadnought

Part 3 - Araknae platform

We've basically seen them all by now, but I love the options on offer in the various Saturnine kits.

In any game system you will have min maxers. It will always exist regardless of the spirit of the game being played.

During 1.0, my group had such a person. He had Ultramarines initially and ran GMan with Invictus and Fulmentaris in any slot he could fit them.

He dropped that very fast when Thousand Sons came out as it was "his legion" that just happened to have 3+ invulnerable Terminators and a Primarch who could shoot "D" strength mind bullets on a whim.

That's just the tip of it his shenanigans, but I don't want to derail the topic any further. But the point is these people exist, and they choose these options as they just want to win. Regardless of what game they play.

Saturnine knees are permitting for three angles without cutting, but nothing prevents one from simply shaving that nub to have full pose-ability for the legs. similar with elbows.

Disintegrator kit comes with both left handed and right handed pistol, so one can do a veteran sergeant with two pistoleros, or turn the centurion into a disintegrator moritat for the lols.

Both dread and turret are just so many parts. Dread is at least 172 parts, swap-out parts counted as one, turret is 91 parts.

Oh man, the dread just gets better and better. Really, looking at the instructions makes me more eager to get one, I'm not pulling the trigger on the big box but maybe I will have to get a dread before they are sold separately.

Saturnine Dread and Termies, look surprisingly good without pauldrons.

I just sent a friend this image and I am in agreement, maybe with a little work it would be possible to put the void 'track' thing that the PAULDRONS attach to on the back of the termie.

Actually reminds me of the other classic no-name terminator, just needs a massive honking frowny face

Salamander Praetor is such a poser. Pretending to be Saint Martin while dividing his cloak for the peasants.

The problem though, is the narrative focused units can be hideously overcoasted compared to other units who will outperform them. Medusan Immortals for example, unless taken in the Bitter Iron Rite they are not worth taking compared to a standard Breacher squad and an attached Apothecary.

That´s a rather pessimistic view. Usually people choose an army of which they like the paint scheme although players who let paint studios paint their models might be the exception.

Is it really only the "spirit of the game" if you're not creating a slightly optimized army?

I hope whoever thought “people really want the instructions” and not “people really want the rules” is forced to spend the rest of their life stamping on a wet spot in socks, changing into fresh socks, then stepping in a wet spot again. Every step, for the rest of their life.

I will say, one thing from the leaks that I am loving is how with some of these new kits, they are giving you so many options. 4 Chest pieces, and essentially 4 heads for the dread? Options for the Preator too. I feel like GW had been going away from that for so long, so to see them going back to it is really exciting.

I've been playing since the tail end of 2nd/Beginning of 3rd.

Nothing wrong with being happy with a move from mono build models. To many have no options, and I love that this dread has a bunch of options.
