They could've easily thrown those in one of the dlc books, so getting them as a download is a positive I think.

Yeah tbf, it's a glass half full/empty thing. The ZM rules will be free! But I had hoped they would be in the core book or get a dedicated supplement!

Still, we don't know exactly what format the digital rules will be. Maybe they'll still be pretty chunky just not in print.

Better a free PDF than a white dwarf article...which I'll remind you, is what we had before Siege of Cthonia came out.

Although the pre-schism Mechanicum is the focus of this book, it’s also great to see updated profiles for the Dark Mechanicum's Brass Scorpion and Kytan, making them immense Automata instead of Vehicles so devious tech priests can attempt to further enhance their already impressive statlines

Would this section give hope that some of the units that came out in pdf form will be rolled into the indexes for the astarties? Or is the vagueness implying these will still be pdf units

We are 100% getting plastic Kytans and Scorpions in plastic. Such an easy layup and redesigning them to align with the Dark Mech Spider Walkers is going to look really cool.

Man that Dark Mech release has the potential to be really something special eh?

It even fits their release preferences. 1 Infantry Kit (Harpax) to 4 Vehicles (big stalkers, small stalkers, scorpion, Kytan) and the Decimator as the “Dreadnaught” release.

Look, the time frame is better than with 2.0...which was frankly, completely unacceptable. I still question the staggered release, just seems like they need to fill months in as opposed to actually not having the PDFs done which is crap, especially for Daemon Players.

But on top of that, I'm not particularly stoked with a lot of 3.0's core rules. 2.0 base rules I feel where (outside a few things) better and more concise, but it fell apart hugely when it came to reasonable balance between the different factions, so the legacy PDFs, even getting released quicker, are going to rely massively on the over all balance of them and if they can actually 'compete' outside of a couple of select units.

My guess is the pace of releases of 2.0 was also down to them trying to feel out the demand and reception and either; being blindsided by the demand without a means to immediately ramp up, or blindsided by the success and immediately paring out some stuff and full swap to plan a third edition.

Now that I think about it, do we know if 2.0 got made at all because the Suits demanded it or because the Nerds convinced them. I could see it go either way "We need to sell more Marines, make the other game" vs "We could sell more Marines, let us make the other game"

Don't give me hope for a plastic Decimator Daemon Engine. XD

If they ever release a plastic Decimator I'll stream myself eating a jar of mustard. You can hold me to that.

Screenshot this and sending it to GW customer services in hopes...

Anyway, rules wise I'm very optimistic with this. Feels still like 3rd edition 40K that inspired it but still got that modern elements that brings a lot of depth.

Army building will be interesting and hopefully we won't see Allies ruining every event going forward, but I'm still happy enough.

Sad to see that the Inductii won't be in the main books at launch, but glad they're being kept around via PDF.

Agree, again for the sake of a text box per legion and a little bit of QA. They just seem to be stuck in 'it was like this last time so we'll do it again'.

@Petitioner's City, thank you! I mostly playtested the LotR card game starting around 2010. so I just got the FFG/GW stories second hand. If I recall correctly, a large chunk of Rogue Trader had been developed at Industries prior to the license going to FFG. The folks I knew made it sound like they were doing all the original writing which then had to be approved by Rees and Merritt; and they were allowed to include snippets from previously published works, hence the 'special thanks.' Most of Rogue Trader and a lot of the lore for Deathwatch came out of Black Industries; most of the rules came from Corey and then Kat after Corey got put on Arkham.

Thank you for explaining more, that's so fascinating - would love to hear/read more about this & your work on it!

Solar Auxilia Faction Focus.

Shorter version:

Basilisk and Medusa are Strength 10 when stationary.

Basilisk has Breaching (6+) and Pinning (1).

Command Sections now dole out buffs to coresponding units. EG Line Command Section improving Line (X) for units in LOS of the Troop Master.

The old Tercios are now Auxiliary Detachments, unlocked by it's coresponding Command Section.

Example given was a Line Command Section unlocking Rifle Sections and Dracosans.

Cohort Doctrines are still a thing.

Legiones Auxilia are still a thing.

Example given was the Raven Guard replacing the Form Ranks Advanced Reaction (whatever that does) with Displacement.

Blast Charges implied to be a paid upgrade again.

Leman Russ is Front Armour 14 with 6 Hull Points.

Am I going mad or are those new? They certainly don't look like the FW ones to me!

Fairly certain those are just the resin ones. The poses are the same, just with the specific weapons shuffled about.

Hey, battle cannons can be ap3 again! Now why are the blasts 3" lol. And what's going on with the earthshaker and medusas AP.

The krios lightning cannon got to mirror its 1st edition stats, don't do iconic weapons that had a consistent profile dirty.

Seems they just repainted them, just like these drones on top :

Are they trying to torment their fans by showcasing fresh paints ( and discussing ) on things they dont actually sell anymore currently
