Though that evolved over time, as GW spread the pre-Heresy use of the Aquila.

In 1988: "The Legion's original Chapter colours of gold and purple were abandoned long ago, as was the Imperial double-headed eagle which was, at one time, forbidden to all other Marine Chapters. With the Horus Heresy and the defection of the Chapter, the right to use the double-headed eagle motif was passed to other, loyal, Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes." -Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness, pg 263.

In 2001: "So inspired was the Emperor by the words of his newly-found son that he bestowed on Fulgrim's Legion a unique honour: the Emperor's Children would be permitted to display the Imperial Eagle on their armour's chestplates, the only Legion then allowed to display the symbol in such a manner." -Index Astartes: Children of the Emperor, White Dwarf 255.

I'm not sure when that changed to "the Palatine Aquila" being exclusively for the Third, with the Imperial Aquila dotted around amongst others.

Probably when the Savretooth cards had them everywhere

The preview could be fifty eight minutes of 28mm plastic infantry and legion uniques and if they spend the other two minutes even referencing Legiones or Titanicus the entirety of Reddit, crusade and heresy, and YouTube will have a collective aneurysm so powerful it births the chaos god of salt and cynicism.

If it’s not 59 minutes of excruciating detail about the Alpha Legion attack on the apothecarion at Istvaan V, and the Salamanders’ valiant defense of the wounded, the entire edition is wasted and I’ll never emotionally recover.

The AcTuAl travesty is that the single-headed eagle is looking (previously it was blind for that direction) to the right which means future as if the salvation of the Imperium would be in that direction. However everybody and his dog knows that the priests of Mars scour the galaxy for ancient archeotech to save humanity from peril. No more grimdark but bright Girlyman-One-Man-Show.

Wasn't that eagle device also a marker of Unification War veterans? That or having been deployed on the field of battle with the Emperor.

It's been a hot minute since I last looked at Heresy iconography.

Apologist is right, it’s going to be the Legiones Imperialis Istvaan supplement that introduces drop coffins.

Is that Imperial slang for Dead On Arrival?

Very similar, the symbol you’re thinking of is the raptor imperialis, which is a eagle head facing right or left (but not both)  with two lightning bolts underneath

Yes it is – and (pleasepleaseplease) I hold out a faint hope that this is not just a fun joke, but a knowing aside that GW will have something for the other games in the setting.

I really hope Adeptus Titanicus and Legions Imperialis get announcements alongside the main Age of Darkness event.

I dunno man, I’m not sure I trust them to do anything to AT. Give us an Imperator, maybe a few new Maniples or weapon options for existing Titans and then let it be.
